External ADSL Modem/Router/Gateway/Firewall/4-port Switch with Ethernet and USB interfaces.The ADSL X5 integrates a full-rate ADSL modem router firewall four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch and a USB port into a single cost-effective product. Concurrent Ethernet and USB connections are supported for flexibility in operating with a range of devices. Up to five computers can be plugged into the X5 directly and each can enjoy simultaneous independent Internet access.The ADSL X5 modem works with any standard ADSL service: G.dmt G.lite or ANSI T1.413 Issue 2. The Model 5554A supports Annex A ADSL over POTS.The built-in four-port Ethernet switch eliminates the need for a separate Ethernet hub for most home networks and many small offices. The Ethernet ports on the X5 provide connection tocomputers running most operating systems including Windows 95 98 98SE 2000 XP and Me as well as Linux Unix and Mac Operating systems. The USB port supports connection to a Windows computer. The X5 can also be plugged into a hub or wireless access point to provide concurrent Internet access for up to 253 networked computers.Security features include Network Address Translation (NAT) and Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI). The NAT firewall hides computers on the local area network from uninvited access through the Internet. SPI assesses the protocol and packet addresses being received to determine if the information should be passed through the firewall to the connected computers. SPI and NAT protect against Internet worms and Denial of Service attacks some of the most publicized forms of malicious intrusion from the Internet.Setup is easy using any authorized local or remote computers Web browser and the intuitive graphical user interface. An auto configuration option automatically establishes the protocol and encapsulation used by the ADSL service. A very good modem for your adsl service,

I have been using this modem about 3 months now with the ADSL service provider in Costa Rica. It has worked very well and even for weeks of being continuously turned on and receiving data. Automatically assigns IP addresses, splits the traffic equally among the network, supports normal and cross-over cables, can work as an usb 10 mbit Ethernet card for a PC with USB and without a network card, has an included firewall and gateway. The price is really great for the things it has. The only problem was at configuration, but a hard reset seemed to fix it.

It's nice to get something that's easy to set-up and does what the manufacturer claims it will do !
I am using this with both PowerLine and Wireless access points. Got it working as fast as I could plug in the wires.

This modem died after just under 4 months of use.
It is a bit tricky to configure. Also you have to install software on the computer you plug directly to the moden by LAN cable to configure it(which i think is ridiulous for a modem router). But once done, it performed very well.. It demise came in the form of sudden continuous and simultaneously flashing USB and ADSL lights... Link lights won't light up when a cable is plugged in... not even pressing the reset button or unplug/replug the power adapter helped. Its doom was confirmed by live support from zoom.com I'm not sure i'd by zoom again. The configuration hitch, its rather tough interface and its short lifespan are too much for me.
