Carol Denise Mitchell's soaring novel, "Rovella Starr" moved me like no other novel's ever have. With an engaging mix of unpredictable events, power, suspense, love and sheer evil kept me totally enthralled with this thrilling and utterly charming tale. Carol, masterfully includes many real-life issues, using her deft narrative which is full of color and character touching every human emotion; making "Rovella Starr" a modern day, must read classic for lovers of great stories--everywhere!

You will never forget that lady who we all knew as--Rovella Starr.

Carol Mitchell's outstanding novel: 'Rovella Starr' is a literary masterpiece. Captivating with an amazing mix of unpredictable events, keeps the reader turning the pages as the non-stop excitement builds. Ms. Mitchell writes a classic compeling novel about Rovella Starr who could be anyone that we know. Her book is up their with the best of writers. The charaters are wonderful weaved to bring them to life. I would highly recommend gladly to anyone who is looking for a good read. I look forward to reading more great masterpieces from this great writer.

Rovella Starr (A Love-Starved [...]) by Carol Denise Mitchell has done it! I had not been surprised by anything that has been inflicted by one man to another in any fiction novel I've thus far read. At least that was true before I read Carol Denise Mitchell's latest! The problem is that Mitchell writes her novel as an old-time storyteller and you feel like you are sitting on the back porch, drinking a glass of iced tea, as she tells her story. Whew!

After reading Mitchell's earlier book, What Happened to Suzy, it did not surprise me that her main character, Rovella Starr had been a victim of childhood abuse. I was not surprised to learn that, in many ways, she was just a little bit "crazy." Nor was I surprised when, on her wedding day, her new mother-in-law jumped her and beat her--well, maybe I was amazed!

I also wasn't surprised when, upon having her third child, born dead, and then come back to life, she devoted the rest of her life to protecting him. She kept him close, including scaring off any girl who showed an interest in Ray, while allowing her husband and other sons to come in a neglected second in her life. And, of course, I wasn't surprised when all of Rovella's neighbors stayed away, especially when Rovella thought nothing about having her shot gun handy to keep anybody off of her property.

But when Rovella paid lots of money to a woman who could only be called a modern-day "witch doctor" for a spell to give to her beloved son? Yep, that about did it for me!

And yet, in the midst of the utterly unbelievable tales that surrounded the life of Rovella Starr, there developed a beautiful love story--that between her son Ray and a famous author, Dana Ann Arbor. From the moment the two first saw each other it was love. True, it was a love that most people thought would be over quickly. While Ray was a handsome man, most people felt he was retarded, or at least, not quick in thought and manner. Dana Ann, on the other hand, was known the world over for her beautiful love stories that kept people enthralled. But there was one thing that Dana knew; Ray loved her with a gentle and kind love that she had never known from the successful and worldly men with whom she had previously been involved.

The amazing thing was that Rovella even allowed their relationship to develop as far as it did before she took her first major step. But once she decided to break up the love match, nothing could stop her!

Let's stop until I get another glass of tea...and then hurry back! Carol Denise Mitchell is going to finish telling what that love-starved bitch did to her son...and how this amazing story ends!

You're just not going to believe parts of this tale...but you won't want to miss it. Because, every great love story is bound to have a happy ending, don't you think? Rovella Starr, by Carol Denise Mitchell, a tale that only a true storyteller can place before her readers!

But make sure, you've got something to drink...and maybe even some smelling salts! Again, I say...Whew, this is some kind of tale! Read it--only if you dare!

Ms. Carol Denise Mitchell transcends the narrow breadth of most contemporary writers by weaving together the lives of her characters in an intricate web that has the reader constantly experiencing different emotions.

As Ms. Mitchell takes us on a journey through the life of a Rovella Starr, a beautiful woman with dark secrets that impact her in ways that are unimaginable;, the reader is sent on an emotional roller coaster with no clear end in sight. This novel will keep the reader riveted to the storyline. This is a must read for anyone who has ever loved.....

Rovella Starr is my greatest writing production. Writing, from my perspective should be inspiring, motivational, and creative enough to take a reader to another time; another place in body, mind and spirit. In pursuit of those endeavors - I have destroyed finished manuscripts. If I don't like my own creations - I will not publish the material. Integrity in tact my reader should be able to have an inside look into the life of another human being, in the form of an interesting, challenging, reading journey. Moreover, the reader should feel many things. The reader should be informed and learn things about life, that might not necessarily be familiar to them in their own lives.

In Rovella Starr, (A Love-Starved Bitch) you get all of these things and more. Having finished the novel - in Rovella Starr - I have given you my best writing work. Heretofore, if I were to be so lucky to produce another novel as compelling as Rovella Starr - I would be lucky. My heart, body and soul went into the creation of this book; upon completion of the work it was hard to let the characters go.

Those being said, I commend this book now to the people, hoping you like it as well. Love the unending machinations and misgivings of the precocious Rovella Starr, forever.

From the 1st page of this book I felt myself stepping back into the past. The dialect of the characters, the clothes they are wearing and even their homes are described so perfectly that you feel you are standing at a window looking in.

Carol Denise Mitchell gives you the background of the woman called Rovella Starr by taking you back into the 1930s when Rovella was nothing but a 13 year old child with the body and experience of an adult. This is one child with a real problem, who becomes an adult with an even worse problem. What is her problem? She is selfish, self centered and totally evil. The terrible things she does to those who cross her are bad enough but what she does to those that really love and care about her are worse.

As I read along, I remember people from my past, childhood into adulthood, that remind me of Rovella Starr. There ARE people out there like her. Rovella Starr has to be one of the most believable fiction books I've ever read. I'm about ¾ into Rovella Starr and don't want to put it down. It is a must read.

I've finished this beautiful book. All I can say is that it was so wonderful. The story captured me from the beginning, the evil of Rovella never ceased to amaze me, and the love that was always there but didn't surface due to guilt made me feel the pain that I'm sure she felt. The ending was perfect. Thank you so much Carol Denise Mitchell for writing such a heart tugging story.
