For any developer other than Rovio, I doubt if I would plunked down the money for a new app the day after it was released. Inevitably, people think of Rovio as synonymous with Angry Birds, one of the most fun and addicting video games ever created. The question was, could they do it again with Amazing Alex?

In my opinion, they've come close. It's not Angry Birds - the games are not similar at all except for the three-star scoring system. But in Angry Birds, you earned your stars; in Amazing Alex, the goal is to take the stars. In concept, another reviewer was spot-on in comparing Amazing Alex to the 1990s "The Incredible Machine," a game that was ahead of its time and was very underappreciated. It's also reminiscent of the old Rube Goldberg cartoons that depicted complex gadgets that performed simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways.

There are no printed rules, you learn the game by the graphic tutorial in the 16-levels of "The Classroom." After that, you're on your own to figure how to manipulate objects to take the three stars, which is the goal. There's no scoring in the usual sense - your score is how many stars you've taken.

One really innovative feature that I want to try is the "My Levels" section, where you can design your own screens and upload them to Rovio. Rovio is already featuring some of these player uploads that can be downloaded and played by anyone who has Amazing Alex.

No, it's not Angry Birds, but like Angry Birds, it requires developing strategies and executing them to perfection to get the coveted three stars. It's definitely another winner from Rovio.

I got this game for my 6 year old son, well, its okay, but it is not 'wheres my water' or 'wheres my perry'. I got it because it was in the category of those two games, but it didn't hold my sons attn as those did.

My 4-year-old grandson likes this game and loves to play it on my Kindle whenever I come to visit. It is a great exercise in abstract reasoning and helps him to think about how things work.

Did not enjoy it as much as Angry Birds but it gets challenging once you get passed certain levels. Sometimes more challenging than I'd like LOL

Some of the puzzles require thinking, but mostly it is just like a doodle puzzle. Can provide a little distraction.
