Rovner is the best,

This review is from: Rovner Clarinet Ligature 1R (Electronics)
My private teacher suggested that I get the Rovner 1r dark ligature when
my old one broke. It immediately improved my tone, and allowed me to hit those high notes with ease. I recommend this ligature for all clarinet players, begginers or proffesional.

This is a great buy!! I would recommend this to anyone... this ligature helped improve my overall tone and clarity while playing my clarinet. Great ligature for the price.

I purchased this ligature, along with my Selmer Prelude CL771.
Two things helped in my decision... a. The metal ligature included with the original instrument usually sounds a little "cranky" (at least for the beginner) b. Metal ligatures usually leave marks in the mouthpiece Even as a beginner, I can perfectly identify the difference between the metal and this ligature... Sound comes out with a much more fulfilling and pleasant body. In conclusion: an inexpensive accessory that helps improving sound quality from the start!

I've started to take Clarinet lessons about 4 months ago - Never player an instrument before, and at close to 50 thought it was time to try. Generating consistent sound without frequent squeaking has eluded me and caused quite a discomfort to anyone around... But I carried on, attributing the squeaks to my lack of experience. My teacher suggested I change the ligature. The one she is using is quite expensive so I ended up getting this one because of the good reviews. Not that I can not afford a top of the line ligature, but I feel that as a very beginner, with a used B-10 Buffet, I should reward myself with better equipment when I advance. So this product has been a wonderful experience: I immediately started to produce much cleaner notes, the frequency of squeaking has dropped noticeably. This is my first such ligature, so I can not compare to others, and I had it for about 2 weeks. But - it is well crafted and sturdy. It comes with a mouthpiece cover which I actually like much better than he Buffet metal cover.

Easy to use, flexible for different reed sizes and holds the reed well. I use them on all saxes as well as my clarinet.

Back when the Rovner ligatures first came out, they were widely touted as an alternative to string ligatures. In other words, as a modern alternative to the kind of ligatures that were used back in the eighteenth century, during the formative years of the clarinet. Over the years, Rovner expanded to "light" and "dark" variations (tone color, not the color of the material) of the original. The 1R model works just as well as Rovners always have. The main advantage to these over metal ligatures is the upper register response. In fact, as a professional clarinetist and university music professor, I'm sometimes asked by my friends who teach middle school and high school band for equipment suggestions. One of the band directors to whom I recommended getting some Rovners for his clarinet section absolutely swears by them now. His observation, and mine over the years, is that the grunt, or undertone, that occurs sometimes between one-ledger-line A and two-ledger-line high C is significantly less pronounced. A highly recommended clarinet ligature that easily adapts to a variety of mouthpiece shapes and sizes.

Though I can't evaluate the accoustical effectiveness of this ligature much because this is my first non-metal ligature, I got it at a good deal (about $27 for 2, including shipping). . One oddity in the design of this product is that it doesn't fit along the lattitudinal indicator lines on the mouthpiece, so it is skewed when it is installed.

Wow, I am very pleasantly surprised by this ligature. Just as good, if not better, than vandoren ligatures that cost over $100.

This product is amazing. You can actually tell the difference in sound once you put the Rovner Ligature on. High notes that you could not hit before you can now hit with ease. My son has a Conductor Clarinet that I purchased off of Amazon and this Ligature changes the entire sound of the instrument.
