This Album Will Get Yo' [Butt] Movin'!,

This review is from: Rowdy Duty (Audio CD)
This is easily one of the best albums I own. I dare anyone to listen to this and not feel like moving to the music. The horns are phenomenal and Jen Durkin's voice is both powerful and soulful. The band locks into a groove from the start and never lets go. You can tell the audience is into it and the band feeds off of their energy. Definately pick this one up if you like high energy jazz/funk. Also, if you ever get a chance to see this band live, don't pass on the opportunity. They know how to funk up a joint and bring incredible energy to the stage. They sound pretty good too!

THIS CHICK IS A FIRECRACKER!!!!!,

This review is from: Rowdy Duty (Audio CD)
I'm talking about vocalist Jen Durkin. She's a combustion of raw feelings waiting to be unleashed whenever she touches that microphone. Think Janis Joplin times a hundred and five. This chick WILL get you up so that you can get down, no matter who or what you think you are.
The rest of the band doesn't struggle to keep up. The whole unit functions beautifully and creates the intense sound of DEEP BANANA BLACKOUT. These guys have been around for about ten years now. They are sort of on the underground circuit, but are known widly throughout the U.S in that circuit.. they developed out of Connecticut back in the mid nineties as part of the jam scene, but have grown fan base all around since. They are definately one of the most intense jam bands around (if you even would give them such a title..) They mix up a core of jazz and funk, with metal grinding riffs, hard pounding drums, and firery raw vocals, and what you get is a sound that doesn't quit. This live album from 1999 best displays the band at the best of their talents. A rapidly building two disc set that just barrelrolls its way to the highly climactic last track BOOT! Jen Durkin drives me crazy when I've seen her live. Just hearing the disc under the right circumstances comes almost as close. She's a gawddammed firecracker! POWAH! Excellent stuff!........ LOUD!

A truely jammin' band and CD!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowdy Duty (Audio CD)
This Cd rocks! If you like really funky, jammin' music then this cd is for you. This is one of the best pieces of music that I have bought in a long time. I do not want to categorize them as a jam band, etc...They just know how to groove. The talent in this band is very impressive. One last word: If you ever get the chance to see these guys live, it will be well worth your time! They know how to funk a place up! This Cd is a good taste of what a typical live performance is like.

I heard this album for the first time at a friend's house during a roaring St Patrick's day party. I stood there speechless with my jaw hanging as Deep Banana Blackout's grooves filled the place with the filthy funk that I love. These guys and gals definitely have thier stuff together. All of them. There is no dead weight in this band. The drummer lays it down thick in the pocket. He understands funk. He wants you to know how funky he can be. I assure you it doesn't get much funkier than this.
You should know that this is a live performance. And, generally speaking, I prefer studio recordings. This is an exception. It's a very clean recording and you can just feel the energy. |
