CONSTRUCTION:
What struck me first when unboxing and assembling this vacuum cleaner, was its quality. It is solid and well made. There was minor assembly needed and what was needed illustrated the solid and well-thought-out construction of this vacuum cleaner. One thing I really liked was the solid plastic cup that you emptied. So many small vacuums do this poorly. Often you get a cloth type bag that you have to scrape pet hair and dust from. This refuse cup was more typical of a higher end vacuum. All you had to do was pour it out.

POWER
After charging this and running this vacuum for the first time, its power was stunning for a cordless model. I have had several cordless vacuums, none with this suction and pep. I've used this vacuum for 15-30 minutes and not once did it flag in power. I've yet to use it for the full 45 minutes duration it says it's good for. I don't know if I'm rated for that duration...

USAGE
I looked at the bottom as I was curious as to how the pointed end picked up stuff and there is a channel in the point that has suction. There is a rolling brush in a typical orientation between the wheels. so the point, does not brush up any dirt, just sucks it up. The brush is relatively small, so I'm wondering how well it will fair for long term use in a house with 4 cats and my shoulder length hair. I have posted a picture of this suction channel. You can see the small brush in this area as well. I find they have a graphic molded into the bottom, to tell you to use scissors to cut any hair or string that gets stuck into the brush. Use of the flat end relative to the little wheels is creative. I found I often I would put the flat end along the wall and slide the unit at an angle to the wheels.

Color Name: Beige Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I am an avid consumer of stick vacuums. At best most last 3 years in my household, worst - a matter of months. The poor things are subjected to all manner of abuse by my 4 kids and are run off their wheels by me. Earlier this year I decided to invest in a more expensive instrument and picked up Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum. Have to say, I love everything about that stick except for the battery life, which is about 15 minutes, yes, 15 minutes!

When I was offered the opportunity to review this stick vacuum I was quite excited. Finally I could do a head to head comparison of two of Amazon's more popular cordless sticks! (Yes, my life is just that pathetic.) So here are my results:

Hardwood Floor sprinkled with flour:

Hoover Linx - The linx was the clear winner here, it sucked up every bit of the flour in one pass.

Rowenta - The Rowenta left behind clumps even after a pass over and back.

Carpet dusted with flour:

Hoover Linx - The Linx left a fine dusting of flour after going over and back.

Rowenta - The Rowenta performed slightly better, some flour was still left behind but less than that left by the Linx.

Hardwood Floor with BB's:

Hoover Linx - Once again, the clear winner - both BB's were sucked up and neither one came back out.

Rowenta - One BB was sucked up and the other one just pushed around by the tip of the machine.

Carpet with BB's:

Hoover Linx - This one was a tie. Both machines sucked up one BB and pushed the other about.

Rowenta - See above.

I'd give this vacuum cleaner 3 1/2 stars if possible. It's lightweight, convenient to use, and sports a stylish look. The ingenious home-plate-shaped head and the swiveling stick work together to allow you to get to tight places. Contrary to the claims of some reviewers, it will stand free, although a bit precariously. And it sucks hardwood floors clean in a jiffy.

However, this vacuum won't replace your main sweeper if you have any significant amount of carpeting in the house. We have very low-pile area carpeting over hardwood, plus two dogs. The product description says that this cleaner is "designed for" hardwood and low and medium-pile carpets. But after really scrubbing at our carpets for significantly longer than I have to with our main vacuum, you can still see dog hairs caught in the pile.

Note that the cleaner will run *up to* 40 minutes on a full charge. If you bust it out on high and leave it there, you'll probably get only a little more than half that time. Recharging takes several hours even if you haven't fully discharged the battery. The instructions say that you can't damage the battery by overcharging it.

I'll keep this cleaner because it's easy to whip it out for touch jobs. But I'm not about to get rid of our big Kenmore.

This Rowenta 18V vacuum is better than a previous "Shark" one we had mainly because, in addition to the brushroll, it actually has some suction as well. It's lightweight, though unstable when standing up by itself. Certainly it's no replacement for a full-sized corded vacuum, but it does ok with most quick pick-up tasks. I wouldn't use it on thick carpet or berber as the brushes just don't stick out far enough. Getting into corners is ok, though the brushroll is only toward the wider portion of the vacuum.

It does filter well as you'll see in the video and uses a similar final filter sponge like a Dyson. It also comes with an extra filter. The video also shows how to remove and empty the canister, which is also done very similarly to a Dyson. Although the handle pivots/twists, it doesn't redirect the motion of the head of the vacuum like a Dyson ball, but it does help in getting around corners or under cabinets and furniture.

It has two speeds, low for hardwood & high for carpet. The brushroll is always turning on both speeds. In my experience, either is fine for wood floors, though even on high it won't get absolutely everything in all situations.

At this price point, I also wish it had some attachments or a quick way to use a hose.
