2.0 out of 5 stars Iron
This iron soaked the clothes and sheets.
Tried different settings, no help.
I have owned other models in the past and loved them.
I returned this iron and got the old one back, just thought it was time to upgrade.
I wish they still made the one i use now.

Did this model of iron replace the DX-8800 model? It seems like it.

Performance: This iron removes wrinkles in a flash, is a steam powerhouse and heats up and cools down quickly. It glides effortlessly over fabrics and removes wrinkles in a single pass. It steams so well, that it doesn't seem to need the burst of steam feature, however it does have this feature. And you may not need sizing or starch because of its good performance on its own. This is important because some people might have allergies to starch or sizing chemicals. And let's face it, that stuff smells nasty and it's unhealthy to be breathing.

This unit steams well and DOES steam automatically on wool/silk temperatures but not on nylon settings.

Aesthetics: My iron looks just like the representative picture you see here for this review section. It's an attractive, traditional shape, with non traditional colors. And I'm glad it's one of my favorite colors (purple, lavender)

Features:______________
a. Extended Steam Burst/ Extra Long Steam Burst: When you push this button it will either give you a powerful burst of steam for a short moment or a powerful burst of steam for about 5 seconds or longer. That's a long time for an iron. You are in control when it comes to the burst of steam depending on how you press the button. This feature is mainly for creating creases and removing stubborn wrinkles.

b. Variable Steam Setting: This setting allows you to set how much steam you want to come out when the iron is steaming automatically--a little or a lot? It gives you a choice of three settings. I've always found this feature to be kind of frivolous, but then again, I don't own or have ever owned any fabrics that might require this feature.

c. Dry Ironing: This iron, as with any steam iron, can also be used without water or with water in the reservoir to iron without steam. Simply turn the switch to "DRY" or don't put water in it. Ironing damp clothes can produce great results.

d. Self Clean: Drains water out of the reservoir in a short period of time with severe extended steam bursts which helps to flush out minerals if you don't use good water in the iron. Do not use this setting while ironing your clothes.
The manufacturer claims that putting solvent solutions in the iron to try and clean it, may ruin the iron and your clothes.

e. Vertical Steaming: It steams vertically too. Works well for those quick touch ups and removing armpit odors.

f. Temperature Indicator: Has a light that indicates when temperature has reached desired level. When temperature has reached desired level, the light shuts off

h. Infinite Temperature Control: Has what seems like "infinite" temperature settings on the center dial. It has at least 105 different temperature settings.

i. Auto Shut Off/Stand By: Turns the iron off automatically if it sits too long or is left in a horizontal position -a worthwhile feature.. I do not know if this iron will turn on when plugged in if it is bumped..

j. Water Mister: There is a water mister that can be used to spray mists of water on the fabrics - useful for stubborn wrinkles or preference. It's cooler than all of that steam. This iron's mist seems to be very even and subtle compared to other irons

k. Anti-Drip: Has something in it that is supposed to hamper unwanted drips on clothes. There are things you can do to prevent your iron from dripping water on clothes. 1. Don't use the iron if it is not at the right high temperature yet. 2. Don't overfill the iron. 3. Don't use the steam burst feature excessively. If you follow these guidelines and your iron still drips water, something is wrong with your iron. 4. Using too cool of an iron can cause dripping if you have water in the iron and haven't set the the iron control to `DRY'.

Size: It is a large, sleek looking iron.

Water Reservoir: This iron holds massive amounts of water (12.7oz) That's a lot for a steam iron. However it needs to hold a lot of water, cause it's a steam powerhouse. The water level on this particular iron is easy to see because of the color scheme--good contrast translucent purple and white. The reservoir is easy enough to fill and the iron comes with a custom beaker to make this task easier. The reservoir also has a slide door.

Water Quality Recommended: The rules of what kind of water to use in this iron, according to the instructions, can probably be said for any iron. The manufacturers of this iron claim you can use tap water, however if you live in a very hard water area like I do, it is recommended that you use spring water, because distilled water will cause the iron to spit and may cause dripping problems because distilled water is TOO pure. I use spring water or "half and half" (half spring, half distilled). I have not had any issues with the iron dripping or spitting since I've followed the manufacturer's recommendations and instructions.

Construction: The construction of the iron is of plastic and metal. The plastics used on this iron seem more rigid and stiffer than other irons. The sole plate is made of stainless steel. Now some people claim that the SilverStone or Teflon coating is better. This is a matter of preference. Frankly I prefer the stainless steel sole plates and I always make sure the iron has it when I shop for an iron. Stainless steel seems to glide better and it's way more durable. The sole plate has at least 400 micro-pores (steam holes) for steam emission. Most irons don't have anywhere near that many. And on other irons, the pores are large. Large pores on irons might just aid water dripping problems that so many people have with irons

Cord: The cord is about 12' long and white in color. It shoots directly out of the most lower rear back of the iron which is a convenient place for it to be anchored.

Controls: The controls are well placed and ergonomic with the exception of the temperature dial. The iron's handle kind of blocks the view of the temperature settings. But this is a small pet peeve. Unlike my other iron, I am not constantly and accidentally turning this iron off because of it's well placed controls. The Steam Burst and Water Mist control buttons are shaped like your thumb. To turn this iron off, the dial has to be turned all the way to the left, or unplugged or left alone for several minutes until it goes to auto shut off mode..

Warranty: This item comes with a 1 year warranty. However if you buy with a credit card, the warranty may automatically be doubled. Check with your bank card issuer. Also, additional extended warranties are usually available from the retailer.

Reliability: I cannot discern. I just bought it (9-24-1010)

Cost: I paid $89.99 plus sales tax at a "brick and mortar" department store.

2.0 out of 5 stars Problem with cord, hasn't lasted, August 7, 2011
This review is from: Rowenta Commercial Professional Iron (Kitchen)
I had a Rowenta that I loved. When I bought this one less than two years ago I didn't like the cord, it was too thick making it a little less mobile. Well now we have to jiggle the cord and get it in a certain position to get the iron to turn on. My husband is going to unscrew the bottom to see if he can determine the problem but I'm very disappointed. I loved the first one, was not as crazy about this one and am now very upset that in less than two years it's not working.

1.0 out of 5 stars Drip, Drip, Drip., November 6, 2010

This review is from: Rowenta Commercial Professional Iron (Kitchen)
I was tired of irons that dripped so I plopped down the cash for what I thought would be a decent iron not made in China. Followed the directions by the letter and from the first time I used it, it dripped. I tried all sorts of different temperatures and amount of steam, and it didn't make any difference. I can get about 5 pairs of pants and maybe one shirt done before it starts to drip.
Another thing is that the steam sometimes worked, sometimes it wouldn't; but most of the time it didn't, no matter what setting I had it on.
DO NOT BUY THIS IRON!

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth Operator, September 26, 2010
This review is from: Rowenta Commercial Professional Iron (Kitchen)
I bought this at Target, not on Amazon, hence the small number of reviews here at Amazon.com. I'm not sure if the other reviewer got a lemon/defect or something, but my experience with this professional iron has been nothing short of splendid. It's easy to refill with water, quick to heat up, has copious bursts and flows of steam when you want it, and glides like melted butter over nearly any fabric I throw at it.

I can easily iron a button-down dress shirt in about 4 minutes (3 minutes if I skip the collar/shoulders) and a pair of dress pants in about 2 minutes flat. It's just the right weight, has a variety of settings, and is very reliable in terms of temperature precision.

To top it all off, it's ergonomic and cute. Super easy to use - I can't imagine a better iron without buying a $1,500 industrial pant-press type of ironing system.
