Love Rowenta Irons, May 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta DM-880 Professional Luxe Iron (Kitchen)
I have personally tested the Professional Luxe DM-880 and the Ultra Professional DM-991, and the result is both irons are of great quality. I have no trouble at all ironing 100% cotton articles using both of these irons. The Ultra Professional has an Anti-Calcium cartridge inside its water tank, and its soleplate is made of Laser Stainless Steel. The Professional Luxe does not have the Anti-Calcium cartridge, and its soleplate is of Airglide Stainless Steel. To be honest, I don't care much about the Anti-Calcium Cartridge since I live in a city of good quality tap water. As far as the difference between Laser and Airglide Stainless Steel soleplates, I can't tell the difference except their looks.
Other online websites have the Ultra Professional about $30 dollars more than the Professional Luxe perhaps due to its new release and the Anti-Calcium cartridge. I believe Amazon.com is the only place that has both irons of same price.
Personally, I prefer the Professional Luxe due to its look, size, heavier weight, and larger water tank. On 100% cotton articles, from my test, it irons better than the Ultra Professional. I guess it's because of its heavier weight.
Comparing the Professional Luxe to other brands, to me, is no contest. Just from the look alone, it beats others by a mile. An iron has to look like an iron, not like some ironing toys. Its soleplate is made of stainless steel while others look so cheap. And if you check ConsumerReports.org and ConsumerSearch.com, you will find out that the Professional Luxe came out FIRST on both sites.
Best of luck to you and your iron. And as for me, it looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship between me and my Professional Luxe.

Definitely worth the money!, January 16, 2001

I have owned three Rowenta irons over the past 12 years. The oldest of the three (12 years old) has been dropped or knocked of the ironing table numerous times by my teenagers. Miraculously, it still works. The stainless steel air glide bottom with extra steam jets help to take a lot of the work out of ironing. The iron's weight is a plus in eliminating repeated motion over the same area to remove wrinkles and dry spray starch. The automatic shutoff is ideal for busy family members. It costs just a little more to go first class.

This Rowenta iron is wonderful!! The steam really works and it is lighter than the model it replaced. This is the model that was rated #1 in Consumer Reports. It also cleans very easily but I would suggest buying the Rowenta iron cleaning kit. I have four children and we do alot of casual clothes ironing - I do have someone who helps me iron and she liked it so much she bought one!
