5.0 out of 5 stars Love Rowenta Irons
I have personally tested the Professional Luxe DM-880 and the Ultra Professional DM-991, and the result is both irons are of great quality. I have no trouble at all ironing 100% cotton articles using both of these irons. The Ultra Professional has an Anti-Calcium cartridge inside its water tank, and its soleplate is made of Laser Stainless Steel. The Professional Luxe...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Rowenta Irons, May 21, 2003

I have personally tested the Professional Luxe DM-880 and the Ultra Professional DM-991, and the result is both irons are of great quality. I have no trouble at all ironing 100% cotton articles using both of these irons. The Ultra Professional has an Anti-Calcium cartridge inside its water tank, and its soleplate is made of Laser Stainless Steel. The Professional Luxe does not have the Anti-Calcium cartridge, and its soleplate is of Airglide Stainless Steel. To be honest, I don't care much about the Anti-Calcium Cartridge since I live in a city of good quality tap water. As far as the difference between Laser and Airglide Stainless Steel soleplates, I can't tell the difference except their looks.

Other online websites have the Ultra Professional about $30 dollars more than the Professional Luxe perhaps due to its new release and the Anti-Calcium cartridge. I believe Amazon.com is the only place that has both irons of same price.

Personally, I prefer the Professional Luxe due to its look, size, heavier weight, and larger water tank. On 100% cotton articles, from my test, it irons better than the Ultra Professional. I guess it's because of its heavier weight.

Comparing the Professional Luxe to other brands, to me, is no contest. Just from the look alone, it beats others by a mile. An iron has to look like an iron, not like some ironing toys. Its soleplate is made of stainless steel while others look so cheap. And if you check ConsumerReports.org and ConsumerSearch.com, you will find out that the Professional Luxe came out FIRST on both sites.

Best of luck to you and your iron. And as for me, it looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship between me and my Professional Luxe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the money!, January 16, 2001

I have owned three Rowenta irons over the past 12 years. The oldest of the three (12 years old) has been dropped or knocked of the ironing table numerous times by my teenagers. Miraculously, it still works. The stainless steel air glide bottom with extra steam jets help to take a lot of the work out of ironing. The iron's weight is a plus in eliminating repeated motion over the same area to remove wrinkles and dry spray starch. The automatic shutoff is ideal for busy family members. It costs just a little more to go first class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this iron!!! -- Well worth the price!!!!, January 18, 2002

This Rowenta iron is wonderful!! The steam really works and it is lighter than the model it replaced. This is the model that was rated #1 in Consumer Reports. It also cleans very easily but I would suggest buying the Rowenta iron cleaning kit. I have four children and we do alot of casual clothes ironing - I do have someone who helps me iron and she liked it so much she bought one!

This is really an extraordinary iron! I have been using my wife's old GE iron for years and dreaded taking on a load of dress shirts. After grumblng to myself, I read about this iron, checked it out in Consumer Reports and decided to see if it was as good as people claimed. It really is worth every penny. It puts out more steam than I have ever seen -- which makes the large water tank a blessing. The sole plate never sticks, even when I use too much spray starch. With such a high wattage, it heats up almost immediately. I recommend that you get the Rowenta hot iron cleaning kit. This iron is a real beauty; it has made ironing a pleasure. That pile of dress shirts gets done easily. This iron really proves the old saying about having the right tool for a job -- it is a beaut!

5.0 out of 5 stars One happy housewife, June 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta DM-880 Professional Luxe Iron (Kitchen)
My wife irons almost all of the clothes that we wear in our house. I estimate that she irons 6-8 hours per week. Last year I bought her two new irons at a local retail store, name brand, but she hated them, as she didn't get to pick them out. My mother had purchased the standard Rowenta iron from JC Penny and she let my wife try it. Well, ever since, my wife has commented on the ease of use, the steam, and the spray of the Rowenta iron. So, I broke down and bought her the professional model. Her two other irons were sold in a yard sale last week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Iron Faster!, April 20, 2002

This review is from: Rowenta DM-880 Professional Luxe Iron (Kitchen)
I had always heard Rowenta produced great irons, but WOW! Basically, this iron cuts ironing time in half, with BETTER results. Things look so crisp, they look like they came from the dry cleaners. You cannot imagine the volume of steam this produces; you hardly need to use starch. This iron is worth every penny! There is a real difference among irons!

4.0 out of 5 stars I iron too much, May 25, 2002

And this iron has cut down my ironing time by half. I notice that I don't have to go back over the same spot twice. The tip of the iron is excellent for getting those in-between areas that are so hard to press. Maybe ironing my husband's shirts will be 'fun' again!

This is my second Rowenta Professional Iron. I was tired of the small, lightweight, low steaming domestic irons, and was very pleased after purchasing the Rowenta. I iron at least 3 hours per week, and definitely need a good iron. It does a beautiful job on table linens due to it's weight, size, and great steaming. To fill it with water is very easy, and it has a little cover to prevent the water from escaping. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the first iron only lasted 6 years. Maybe I am from the "old school" where appliances lasted longer, but I didn't expect to replace it so soon. However, it didn't prevent me from replacing it with the same iron.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Iron but ... Poor manufacturer response, October 7, 2004
This review is from: Rowenta DM-880 Professional Luxe Iron (Kitchen)
I loved my Rowenta Iron ... But, when it started leaking water my husband tried for one year to get a response from the manufacturer on how to get it repaired. It still gets hot but, the wonderful steam it used to produce no longer works as we never were able to get any assistance from the manufacture for replacing the water tank. The iron was never dropped and neither my husband or I ever figured out what caused the leak.

Would be a 5 star item if the manufacturer stood behind their product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Finally have a GOOD iron!, April 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta DM-880 Professional Luxe Iron (Kitchen)
I didn't realize just how useless my old iron was until I got this one. Over the years I've normally looked for whatever was on sale, rather than a particular brand. Then the Rowenta showed up on the Gold Box. Even on sale it was more than I'd ever paid before, but it has proved well worth the money. I hate ironing, but at least with this one it is heavy enough to do the job, glides easily, and steams beautifully. Very glad I took the offer! Highly recommended iron - and Thanks to www.Amazon.com for suggesting it!
