5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Iron!
A perfect iron for anyone who has trouble ironing!! It changed the way I looked at ironing. It heats up quickly, intuitive design, and the retractable cord works great. In my opinion, the retractable cord is the best feature and good for someone who hates ironing because of the long cord that typically come with irons. Peformance 5 Stars and functionality 5 Stars!!!

I have previously owned a Rowenta iron, which was made in Germany and worked flawlessly every time. Unfortunately, after a couple years of heavy use, the unit would no longer power -- at all. I replaced it with the $60 Rowenta Effective DX1900, the item featured here. Because I thought highly of the brand, I never noticed until after I took the unit home that this one was made in China. I was disappointed. For the price, I could have saved some money with another cheap unit also made in China. Rather than return the unit, I decided to keep it to see how long it would last. After just a couple months, the iron is basically useless. The safety auto-off switch is faulty, so every five seconds I have to tap the unit in just the right place and with just the right amount of force to resume heating. Forget just a gentle tilt like my previous unit.

All in all, I am disappointed with Rowenta more than this specific product. I feel betrayed, as though the company has traded in quality to make an extra buck.

1.0 out of 5 stars great - until it stops working, February 8, 2009
This review is from: Rowenta DX1900 Effective Cord Reel Iron (Kitchen)
We're on our 3rd Rowenta Effective DX1900. When these models work, they're great. But after paying a decent amount of money for it, I expected it to last. Now on our 3rd replacement, we're getting rid of it. The safety auto-off switch is defective, and it keeps turning off every 10-15 seconds. I used to be able to shake it violently to make the auto-switch turn back on, but now I have to unplug and plug it in every time. I tried calling customer service, but they were totally unhelpful and wouldn't own up that they are selling a defective product. As I told the rep, I'll never buy a Rowenta product again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, September 6, 2006
This review is from: Rowenta DX1900 Effective Cord Reel Iron (Kitchen)
It's great, if it works!!! After keep exchanging it over and over, I gave up the 5th time. First time, spray didn't work, second time, power steam button didn't release the steam, third time, it was too strong fabric got stock underneath the iron and I couldn't clean the iron, fourth time, steam problem again, fifth time, steam problem again. Poorly tested product. I would've been really happy to keep it, if it was working properly. It actually had all the features I was looking for. Too bad for Rowenta for not testing their products properly.

1.0 out of 5 stars designed to malfunction?, January 20, 2008
This review is from: Rowenta DX1900 Effective Cord Reel Iron (Kitchen)
I decided to spend a little more on an iron that would last. I thought Rowenta had a good reputation. At first, I loved ironing with this iron. It made the chore of ironing easier and more fun. I've had it about a year now, and it has gone from spotty to extremely aggravating and consistently malfunctioning. After a few weeks it would unpredictably stop maintaining temperature, and got worse and worse over the year. I realized that the automatic shut off was being activated spontaneously, and nothing I could do would keep it hot. I even read the manual. I gave up and bought a black and decker.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reliability?, August 28, 2006
This review is from: Rowenta DX1900 Effective Cord Reel Iron (Kitchen)
This iron is great... when it works. I loved mine but it broke within two weeks. It stopped heating up at all. I was extremely disappointed since I thought I was buying a high-quality iron. Rowenta did replace the iron at no cost; however, it took three weeks which is a long time to be without an iron. I really hope my new one keeps working because it is a great iron that heats up fast and makes ALOT of steam.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cord Issues, August 4, 2006
This review is from: Rowenta DX1900 Effective Cord Reel Iron (Kitchen)
The cord doesn't retract as advertised. Save the $5 and get the DX-1700 instead.

The iron works well and has nice features, especially the retracting cord and the no drip water feature. Unfortunatley the overall quality is lacking. We have had this a little over a year and it has quit functioning. It appears that the safety auto off function is broken and shuts the iron off before it even heats up. It is now useless. This is the first Rowenta iron we have had and it will be the last. The irons are pricey and not any better than the Black and Decker, Sunbeams, etc. especially if you look at the high price of the Rowenta's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective iron...just like it's name!, February 8, 2008

I bought this iron (through Macy's) after using cheaper irons. This Rowenta iron is the best iron I've EVER used! It is worth paying a little extra for this iron. The steam works great and ironing is much quicker with it...I love it!

I'm not sure why some people seem to be having difficulty with this iron - I love it! Everything on it works as it's supposed to. I love that I can hold the iron vertically and have it produce steam. The cord retracts quite easily. If you are having issues with fabrics sticking to the iron plate, please lower the setting on your iron! This iron works exactly the way it is supposed to - a very high quality piece of equipment!!
