Terrific Iron, September 13, 2006
This review is from: Rowenta DZ9080 Advancer Iron (Kitchen)
This is the best iron I have ever used. It literally irons in half the time compared to my old Black and Decker. I am a seamster and have seen an improvement in my work since I began setting stitches and pressing seams with the Advancer Iron. The burst of steam feature knocks out tough wrinkles and is really helpful with stubborn seams. It is not heavy, but it is heavier than my previous irons, so it really makes pressing fabric easy. The narrow tip is a great feature! It fits like a dream in trouble places. I used it while constructing a coat and the narrow tip allowed access to the most difficult areas.
The one down side is the automatic shut off feature. It will shut off in 8 minutes if left vertically, in 30 seconds if left on its soleplate. I would prefer if this feature were optional.
The Advancer is formulated to work with tap water, not distilled. But for those of us with an excess of organic matter in our tap water, the tap water may be diluted with 50% bottled water (per the instructions) for excellent results.

DO NOT BUY THIS IRON!, January 10, 2008
This review is from: Rowenta DZ9080 Advancer Iron (Kitchen)
I have had a terrible experience with this iron and I see many others have had similar problems. I had to send it back for repairs only one month after I bought it. It over-heated, melted the fabric, started smoking, and was obviously not usable. I wanted a replacement because it was so new, but Rowenta refused. I should have just sent it back for a refund and then started over again. Their repair service keeps it for 30 days before they even begin to repair it. The repair shop was quite rude when I called to check on it after 3 weeks...as if I was annoying them. They never even notified me that they received it. After spending $130 on the iron, I had expected a better customer service from a company that is supposed to carry a quality product. WRONG! I sent it using UPS two day (they don't pay the cost of returns/repairs even if under warranty) After 31 days, they returned it by regular mail...took 3 more weeks to arrive. I was really annoyed.
Last night (3 weeks after repair) it over heated again, worse than before. I had to run it outside and it burned for nearly an hour, pouring out smoke and reeking of burning plastic. I thought it was going to burst into flames. Called Rowenta this morning, they still won't replace it! They want me to once again send it in for repairs AT MY EXPENSE!!! I live in Hawaii so shipping is quite expensive. I asked to speak with a manager (as I did before). He was "not available" and he is supposed to call me back. Its been 2 hours, no call. I will be calling the Better Business Bureau next.
Please read all 1,2, and 3 star reviews. This is not a new problem. Something is seriously wrong with this product. It is also a really, really heavy and cumbersome iron. You slso have to fill it with water after each garment. Very user un-friendly.
Something is seriously wrong with Rowenta. Where is the quality control? What happened to customer service? Save yourself the money and the hassle...buy a cheaper iron.

Rowenta DZ 9080, August 17, 2006
This review is from: Rowenta DZ9080 Advancer Iron (Kitchen)
This iron is a technological marvel. I have just had it for a few days and I have ironed some very difficult, over 100 year, heirloom open-embroidered linen. It was a breeze and the results were truly professional. The controlls are easy to use, the steam settings excellent. It just glides over those diffucult spots. It may be a little pricey, but it is worth every penny.
This is an ideal tool for anyone who sews on home fabrics. The upright steam feature is a plus. I was concerned about the weight, but the iron glides so effortlesly that you do not notice the weight.
