5.0 out of 5 stars Solidly Built and Decidedly Functional, May 4, 2006
This review is from: Rowenta IB-6200 Professional Ironing Board (Kitchen)
I must admit that I'm an occasional ironer, having long ago embraced a wash-and-wear lifestyle and wardrobe. There are, however, articles of clothing which simply demand to be ironed. There is also from time to time that load of laundry that has stayed in the dryer for several days because everyone in the house is too busy or too lazy to attend to it until it has wrinkled beyond the dryer's poor ability to address. So I iron when it's absolutely necessary, and never more often.

But even an occasional ironer needs the proper tools - both to do an acceptably good job and to reduce the seemingly inevitable dread. Every time I pulled out my old ironing board, it screamed "I AM SO CHEAP." It was the kind of lightweight, poorly designed and constructed thing that typifies our throw-away society. It was short (and I am not), and it made my back hurt every time I ironed for nearly twenty years. Somewhere along the way I had bought a good iron - it was time for a good board.

A hundred bucks may seem like a lot for an ironing board. It did to me, anyway. Spend the money. This thing is worth it. It's solid - not at all tippy as mentioned in another post. The height adjustment has positive detents to give you that confident, "yes, it's going to hold" feeling when you set it up. There's a stand for your iron that appears to be perfectly proportioned for Rowenta's high-end steamer. There's a handy fold-away rack so you can hang your freshly ironed shirts and trousers. It also has a wire shelf underneath that I haven't figured out how or if I'll use, but it isn't in the way, and perhaps it'll come in handy for some people. The muslin cover isn't anything fancy, but it's well secured and, like the rest of this piece, refreshingly and admirably functional. The best part is its height: It adjusts from 25" to 39" ... a full four inches higher than my old board and most others I've found. If you're over six feet tall and you're ever going to lift an iron, do yourself a favor. I'm 6'5", and it's at the perfect height (arms extended, palms flat) for me at its vertical limit.

To sum it up, life's too short - get a good ironing board ... and this one's as good as it gets.

3.0 out of 5 stars solid but way too heavy, December 9, 2006
This review is from: Rowenta IB-6200 Professional Ironing Board (Kitchen)
Overall I think this is a great board but I returned mine because it was way too heavy and bulky. I loved the wideness of the board and the pad was excellent - it made ironing a breeze and the ironed clothes looked better than ever. However, I live in a very small house and cannot keep it set up all the time and the set-up/breakdown of this ironing board isn't user friendly at all. I wished that the iron holder on the end could be taken off because I never needed it and it just added more length and weight. So now I'm in search of a happy medium - something that isn't flimsy and cheap, but on the other hand, something that isn't a bulky boat anchor either.

This ironing board should last until the next century it is that substantial, which makes
is very heavy. Good if you can leave your board up, otherwise except your muscles to get some work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a decent ironing board!, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Rowenta IB-6200 Professional Ironing Board (Kitchen)
I love this ironing board. It's very stable, I can pile a weeks worth of laundry on the shelf under the board no problem. The fold up hanging rack is just perfect for holding all the ironed garments and it really does hold a lot-6 shirts, 3 pairs of slacks, 4 tops, 5 skirts, 1 dress (ok, so the dress did drag on the ground) and 3 pairs of jeans - and still no tipping! My iron sits perfectly on the ironing stand without sliding around. The board is a lot wider than anything I've ever used before and did take some getting used to especially when ironing shirts. I've found that because the board is wider, I can iron more of the garment with less turning and twisting so I get through it all faster. I get a better finish on all my laundry now, I've used the same iron for almost a year so the improvement has to be due to the ironing board cover and padding. The board can be adjusted through so many different heights, it's perfect for both me and my husband, he's ex-military and still likes to iron his shirts with sharp creases so he's really happy at how they look. Yes, the board is heavier than anything I've ever used but it's easy to fold up and store away, I'm over 50 and don't have a problem with the size and weight. My work collegues think I'm mad because I am so thrilled with my new ironing board, but ironing is a real chore and anything that can make life easier and speed me through my chores is welcome in my house. This ironing board does all that and more!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great at first, up doesn't hold up, February 24, 2008

I purchased this ironing board about 1-1/2 years ago. Loved it at first,
very nice, worked well, excellent board. But after a little over a year, it decides it doesn't want to say at the height I want. It starts collapsing down to a lower level, won't stay at a comfortable height. I called the company, it does have a 10 year guarantee. At first they said take it to a repair company, I had already looked for one, doesn't exist.
When I questioned the quarantee, I was put on hold while the rep checked.
When he came back, he told me there was no local place take it (I live
outside Chicago), that it had to be mailed back! I could probably buy a new board for the price of packaging and mail. No solution for this problem in sight.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Heavy Ironing Board, March 19, 2007

Overall I think this is a nice ironing board. I like the wideness of the board and the pad is nice and thick. The iron holder on the large end of the board is handy, but cannot be removed. This presents a problem for me as I have always used the large end of the board to do the majority of my ironing (especially shirts) and can't lay the shirt over the large end of the board with the iron holder attachment. After years of ironing this way, it has been a real pain trying to change the way I iron and use the small end of the board. I mainly bought this board to replace my old board that was tippy, and my iron had fell off several times. I had to request a replacement for the first board I received since it was as tipsy as my old board on a hard floor. The replacement is more stable on a hard floor, but not as stable as I think it should be for such a high priced ironing board.

I was very pleased with the rowenta ironing board that I purchased through Amazon.com. I had read some negative reviews about this product, and I'm happy to say that none of them were true. First of all the ironing board is very stable and well made. It's a joy to have such a solid base to iron from. The board is not very heavy and I am a petite, small boned, middle-aged woman. The board is extremely easy to fold just by pressing on a button/lever. It's a joy to use such a well-made tool.

Great ironing board for stability & overall ironing-surface size. Side, metal storage area is OK, but not really necessary, as is the under board rack. The muslin-type cover scorches too easily, though, and the cover also gets a tea-stain look if excess water meets the surface, such as an overpour into a steam iron.

4.0 out of 5 stars Professional-type ironing board, but..., November 4, 2006

In my opinion, this ironing board is worth the money because it is incredibly stable, solid, and has a large ironing surface. Unfortunately, these traits also make it heavy, unwieldy, and difficult to move and set up. I am a relatively petite woman with arthritic hands, so those things are problems for me. The board is so wide that it is difficult to hold both releases at the same time (to let the legs down)and maintain control of the process. The board generally ends up sort of falling into place, which is not great. The board is also quite a bit heavier to carry and manuver than other boards I've used. On the extras, the rack for the iron and for hanging clothes is very handy (and fits the big iron perfectly), and the stacking rack underneath the board is handy, if you can remember to use it. All in all, I would buy this board again, but it's not perfect, like everything else.

I hate to iron - but this board certainly eases the pain! It's so sturdy - no wobbling from side to side. The extra wide surface is wonderful, allowing completion of an article of clothing without a lot of adjusting. The additional features are an added bonus! I would recommend this to anyone - well worth the cost.
