4.0 out of 5 stars Great compact steamer.
I think this machine is great. First off, it's nice and compact. Your able to hide the power cord underneath the base of the unit, the hose easily wraps around the top portion and the head of the steamer slides into place so it's not dangling off the unit. Included in the box is a storage bag for your attachments, so you don't lose them. I used this just last night to...

2.0 out of 5 stars nice design, but it hiccups
if i had the space, i would be all over one of those jiffy 2000 series steamers. but i don't. this rowenta model is compact and nicely designed, but for one thing: it is not continuous steam. instead, it steams for a minute or so, then "rests" for 15 seconds before getting up another head of steam. i haven't seen the leaking problems mentioned in the other review, so i'll...

I used this just last night to steam a sueded slip cover for a couch that's been in a bag for over 2 years and it worked like a dream, it took out every wrinkle. It heated up very quickly and produced enough steam to get out any wrinkle. It did get a tad hot around the head of the steamer if you kept your hand there too long, also it makes a gurgling noise as it heats up, but that dissipates after it's up and running. Other than that, it's a great item. I would totally buy another one. If I may dispense some advice (I worked in retail for several years and worked with professional steamers on a daily basis. If you have light garments like silks, cover the steamer head with a knee hi or stocking to protect the garment from oversteaming whatever elements are in the water and always steam from the inside of your garment - never on the outside. Rowenta is a really good name and usually produce good quality items. I almost didn't buy this because of some of the reviews. I guess you take a chance on everything you buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars had such promise, February 22, 2008

I had bought this as I'd gotten tired of lugging out the ironing board and bending over to iron. at first use it was great and I had high hopes that it would alleviate all the aches and pains I usually experience with ironing.
I agree with S.Yee in that the unit does have problems at the hose connection to the unit...in my case it actually came apart-or to be more accurate, the hose came out of the elbow connection. and the worse of it was it happened after only 2 uses.
I hadn't had the leaking problems nor did I have experience the a"resting period" W.Welch had...in fact until the hose disconnected I was able to steam about 2 dozen shirts only refilling once.
As I said, it showed such promise but I can only give it 2 stars because of the "disconnection" problem--otherwise, I may have given it a 4 or more because it definitely had alleviated the aches and pains I usually have after a bout of ironing and it did a great job.
Fortunately, I had purchased my steamer at Kohl's and they have a great return policy.

one "trick" I had discovered...you need to keep the clothes taut to be able to use it to it's best...or find a nice flat wall (that won't damage) to do your "ironing" on...

1.0 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY FROM THIS POS!!! LEAKING PROBLEM, October 22, 2007
This review is from: Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Garment Steamer with Accessories (Kitchen)
I own a Jiffy 4k steamer at home. Needed something smaller for my crash pad. Thought about the Jiffy 2K but its also big and heavy, then I saw this. It wasn't reviewed yet, but It looked so good, and some other Rowenta products (irons) had good reviews (but their garment steamers leak). I took a chance and hoped it would be an excellent choice (the hose looks sturdier)....Caveat Emptor, looks are deceiving. It may put out a good amount of steam (almost as much as the Jiffy) but this thing is awful. It leaks where the hose connects to the unit (akin to their other units). There was a puddle on the floor within 5 min of turning it on. I am guessing they design their products to leak at the connection. Back in the box it goes. I will pay the extra $$ for a Jiffy 2K.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hose is FINE!, June 7, 2008
This review is from: Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Garment Steamer with Accessories (Kitchen)
just purchased this product and it works great. others have said hose comes apart at main connection???? So, I took it apart to see if its just 'taped to elbow- NOT, it uses a spring type clamp like used on your cars radiator hoses. i.e. not just gonna come off! Works like a charm as described!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad decision, August 23, 2008
This review is from: Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Garment Steamer with Accessories (Kitchen)
I bought this at Target. I had also used Rowenta irons and found they were very good.
I've tried this steamer multiple times and it just doesn't work.
It steams a little, leaving clothes wet, then kicks out hot water.
It's going back.

2.0 out of 5 stars nice idea.....but, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Garment Steamer with Accessories (Kitchen)
I love the idea of this, but I think it's easier to just iron. The clothes end up VERY damp, so you have to have a rack to hang the clothes on until they dry...Linen takes forever. The unit is very portable; I had no trouble with it leaking from the hose or spitting (just hold the hose vertically every once in a while).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product for the price, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Garment Steamer with Accessories (Kitchen)
I received this steamer as a wedding gift. I previously owned the Conair steamer. I'm very pleased with this steamer. Firstly, I like that it is compact and both the cord and the hose are able to be wrapped neatly. I think the key to steaming is to be patient. I make sure the hose is really steaming before I start. I use this to steam silky blouses I wear to work, my husbands more casual button-up shirts, and both of our work slacks. For my blouses and our trousers, the steamer works great. If you steam from the inside of the garment and slowly drag the hoze down, it works really well. The attachments have a carrying bag so they are easily stored, and it's really easy to attach the creaser. It doesn't give you as sharp creases as an iron would, but it works well for my purposes. There was only slight leaking, but far better than my previous steamer. As long as you keep the hose extended it won't leak too much. For the price, I think this is a pretty great steamer. I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a compact steamer.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Garment Steamer with Accessories (Kitchen)
I was so happy when I ordered this light weight Rowenta steamer. Not only is it light to carry, but it is also extremely effective. I have looked at more expensive models with other options, but this one removes the wrinkles out of my jackets and dresses. Why spend extra money when this one does the job? My dad was a dry cleaner, so I was spoiled on steam presses. Now I can remove the wrinkles and look groomed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Help me find the leak!, March 26, 2009
This review is from: Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Garment Steamer with Accessories (Kitchen)
Received this for Christmas and has been a disappointment. As one reviewer said, I suspect quality control issue as well. To those users of units that do NOT leak, please respond... Is there a gasket or o-ring anywhere around the connection of your hose to unit? Mine does not have one, and I'm wondering if there should be. Look at the L-shaped hose connector. I see it has two grooves that meet up with same in the unit, but no rubber-ish gasket. It's just plastic to plastic. Every time it "hiccups" as mentioned from others, it shoots out boiling hot water all over the floor. Watch your feet! Thank you for any intel!
