Lousy , throw-away iron,
By
This review is from: Rowenta PowerPress Iron DM 170 (Kitchen)
Pros: generous water reservoir, smooth glide plate, plenty of steam holes. Cons: leaks, spits. Have over 25-yrs of pressing clothes of varying fabrics. Fourteen months ago I needed to buy a new iron. After reading a few reviews decided to purchase a Rowenta product. First 6 months of usage were great (followed instructions to a "T"). When compared to previously owned irons I actually pressed more clothes using the Rowenta product. Then the problems started to surface, leaks, spits, not enough steam produced. In my opinion Rowenta needs to revisit the drawing board. Rowenta has a serious water-type problem. The temp control dial is in a bad location. The steam feature can not be used outside the "red zone," high temp. I started out using tap water, then switched to half tap half cheap bottled water. Religiously used the "self clean" feature, AND emptied the reservoir of water, but the leaks continued. The degradation in performance after 6-months of usage is terrible, & does not warrant the high price. In my opinion, Rowenta's product is a very expensive throw-away iron! Would not purchase another Rowenta iron.

JUNK!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta PowerPress Iron DM 170 (Kitchen)
This is without a doubt the worst iron I have ever had. I wanted a really good iron that didn't spit or leak. Rowenta is priced at the top, so I felt assured "you get what you pay for". I couldn't have been more wrong. I can't even keep water in the reservoir. You pour it in, and start to iron, and the water just leaks out. What a mess! Writing to the manufacturer is of no help. I just bought this, and because their product is defective, I have to send it to their repair center, AT MY COST. What a rip off!!!

Well worth the money,

My previous iron, a good standard issue Sunbeam fell of the ironing board and would not stop leaking. Thinking about the old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ I stood staring at the various irons at Target. The practical me wanted to just pick up another 20 or 30 dollar iron, its all I’ve ever used. I also remembered how those irons performed, not all that well. I finally decided to take the plunge.
After using sub par irons for a long time, I could not believe the night and day difference. The first thing I noticed is how it glides, almost hovers, over what you’re ironing. No more dragging the iron across, pulling the fabric with it! The steam is not going to fog up your glasses, but I don’t think it needs to gush out a cloud to work. If you really need the steam to combat out a nasty wrinkle, the steam button delivers a BLAST of steam that powers though the fabric (you can actually feel the iron trying to move).
Overall, this is a great iron and has made me a true believer in paying a bit more for a quality iron that does the job quicker and makes it much easier! If you can afford it, get this iron, its is very unlikely to disappoint. What you spend today, you will save in time and effort.

Love this Iron!,

Unlike the last reviewer, we just love this iron. It takes out all wrinkles easily and quickly and it heats up quickly also. We've had no sputtering problem at all. The refill tank lasts a long time unlike our old Black and Decker which we had to refill constantly. The auto shut-off works well too. The metal soleplate glides over clothes. The heat adjusting dial is easy to read and set. This iron is well worth spending the extra money!

The Best Iron I've Ever Owned,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta PowerPress Iron DM 170 (Kitchen)
As opposed to the last reviewer, this iron is the best one I've ever owned. My old iron broke and I picked up a Black & Decker one. I tried ironing a few cotton shirts and they didn't even look like I ironed them after I finished. I returned that one and sprung for the Rowenta. WOW! It is well worth the additional money. I find it produces loads of steam and the weight is just perfect. I even re-ironed the still wrinkled shirt that I ironed with the first Black & Decker. What a difference! It looks fantastic! Now if only they can invent a way to keep irons from falling off my ironing board!

Waste of money,
This review is from: Rowenta PowerPress Iron DM 170 (Kitchen)
Don't buy this iron! I was suckered into thinking it would be a good idea to have an iron that didn't leak. Yeah, it doesn't leak alright, it doesn't steam either! It's anti-leaking design has made this iron one that puts out very little steam even at it's full steam setting. I constantly have to press the steam button (several times) to get sufficient amount of steam to iron my clothes. I wish I could return it but it's too late. Rowenta has some good irons, and I do recommend them, but this particular model just doesn't cut it (or should I say "steam it").

I bought this iron for my mom for mothers day and made fun of here forever for wanting an iron that cost this much money, but let me tell you after i used it for the first time i was hooked. Now i'm getting ready to move out on my own and defiantely want one. Maybe i'll get one at my party or maybe i'll splurge and by myself one. Definately worth the price

Rowenta Power Press Iron DM 170,

Bought this iron the first week of February (2004) at a local Target store. So far, my husband and I both love it! (We each do our own ironing.) We have tried other brands, but really like this Rowenta the best. The stainless steel soleplate glides across clothes effortlessly and the steam feature is wonderful. No dripping of water, however, we do use bottled drinking water to fill it since our tap water is very soft. (Highly recommend that you review the Rowenta users manual prior to using the iron the first time. Very concise and user-friendly.) This iron is designed very well and is not as heavy to lift as some other brands of irons have been. Very impressed so far with this product!

Disappointed,
By A Customer

I purchased a Surfline in 2001. It worked fine up until October 2003. I have mixed emotions. I never expected an iron that cost $69.99 to malfunction in just 2 years. I like convenience and if I have to pay to send the iron to the manufacturer and purchase another during this time, what's the point? This is not my idea of convenience. I will more than likely purchase another more affordable brand.
