1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Quality! Steer clear.
My wife and I had a pretty nice Rowenta steamer that we got as a wedding gift about 4 years ago. 1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Quality! Steer clear., June 27, 2004
This review is from: Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron (Kitchen)
My wife and I had a pretty nice Rowenta steamer that we got as a wedding gift about 4 years ago. Well, that one didn't have the dual voltage switch and when we were in Europe, we basically fried it (our fault - we thought the converter would work with it, but apparently not). Anyway, we replaced it with this model last fall. Big mistake. The first thing I noticed is this one is made in Mexico, the old one was made in Germany. Also much cheaper quality - the parts, the fit and finish. We turned it on and it never heated up. Took it back and brought #2 home. This one heated up, got so hot that it emitted a scary smell (like when you clean an oven) and the plastic cover plate got too hot to the touch. Based on reading the manual and the website, I don't think this is supposed to happen. At any rate, we were never able to get it to emit steam, no matter how long we waited or how much we pressed the button. Back to the store to exchange it for #3. This time we made the clerk try it out to see if it was just us. It wasn't. None of the store personnel were able to get it to work. When they gave us a new one, I asked them to try it as well. Same result. They had to open yet another new one out of the box (we're up to #4 now, if you're still trying to keep count) which worked. Admittedly I was pretty leery at this point, but we were leaving on a trip in less than a week and they stocked no other steamer models. So I took it home and it went with us to Japan. Worked fine the first few times, but after about a week of travel it began to fall apart. Now it leaks profusely and the steam output is about half what it once was. I contacted Rowenta but the hassle to box this thing up, send it to the service center in San Diego, etc. is just not worth it to me. Needless to say, I am through with buying Rowenta.

I find it ammusing that anyone could write a good review of this product. I travel quite frequently on business and I always carry a steamer, I purchased this one and let me tell you it is pretty useless, the amount of steam that cmoes out of this unit would not take simple wrinkles out, while traveling It would take me a good 45 minutes ( I was desperate ) to get a passable shirt. I did use it as an iron for little bit till I gave up and stopped carrying it. Note , it has a plastic attachment on the head for the brush part, mine broke the first week (very flimsy)and at that point the appliance is useless as a steamer since you honestly need to brush your garment with this frustrating tool.

What I did was to let this product shipped to my Aunt's address in L.A. and have her sent it to me here in the Philippines. I've been using this product since last month and so far it's working just fine with my clothes. I could also bring Rowenta Steam N' Press during my travel because it's handy enough. I can just hang my clothes and have it steamed vertically or I can switch it into a flat iron. It's really great! not to mention convenient...It's dual voltage feature makes it flexible and functional wherever I go...I love this product!

1.0 out of 5 stars don't beleive the hype, June 9, 2003

This review is from: Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron (Kitchen)
As soon as i saw this item on amaozon's page and read the reviews on it, I could not wait to get this item. I was so excited that I opted not to buy it online, and instead I headed straight for Target to purchase this iron. I am not sure who gave this iron a great review but I assume that it had to be the marketing staff of Rowenta, because this iron could not even get the smallest of wrinkles out of my cotton shirts. The steam feature is the worst, steam comes out in little spurts and along with the steam comes twice as much water so now you have to spend your time trying to dry up the wet spots.. this was definately the worst iron I have ever purchased.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, September 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron (Kitchen)
I purchased this product to steam my Borsalino hats. After 5 uses, it stopped steaming. Rowenta told me to put water in it and hold it upside down and press the steamer button 4-5 times. I tossed it in the garbage. Extremely disappointed. Sure I could have sent it in for repair, but that would have cost more that the amount I paid for it originally.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, March 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron (Kitchen)
Maybe I was expecting too much... Trying it on hanging garments, it does lessen the severity of wrinkles, but only the lightest wrinkles disapeared completely. I liked that I could use regular tap water, ...especially because I used at least one handle-full per shirt. (the removable tank is in the handle). It irons as well as any standard iron, but the shape of the handle makes it more difficult to handle than the usual shaped irons. (One might get used to it with practice) If I want clothes that look pressed, I think I will have to go back to a regular iron and board, and do the work of actually pressing them. I have no experience with professional steamers, and do not know if they would do a better job.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless, December 17, 2004
This review is from: Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron (Kitchen)
I bought this to handle minimal wrinkles knowing that this was all a handheld steamer could manage. It couldn't even handle this. You have to constantly press the steam burst button to get a low amount of steam that in the end didn't do the job. The water tank is also much too small for the amount of "steam bursts" required. Put the money towards a professional steamer.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I have to echo some of the other customers' negative sentiments below - this thing never really worked well. Recently I noticed it had completely died; I think I used it all of 6 times. There have to be better models out there - I wouldn't recommend this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars What do you expect?, November 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron (Kitchen)
I bought one, and I like it. This is ideal for travel or for someone like me who hates to get out the ironing board while getting ready for work in the morning. Unlike some steamers, it can be used with regular tap water. One fill of the water reservoir should get you through around 4-5 items.
Please don't think you're going to get a professional steamer for $40! Notice that none of the portable steamers on Amazon have high ratings. It won't make your clothes flawless, but it's pretty darn good -- you can steam things on hangers or just throw them on the bed -- you won't have to worry about new creases appearing on the reverse side of the clothes like you do with your iron.
Oh, and just take the faceplate cover off, it isn't very useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Steamer, July 28, 2007
This review is from: Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron (Kitchen)
I am not sure what is up with all the negative comments about this steamer. This is my 2nd one since I left one behind in a hotel. It is great and works wondeful. Yes its does not hold a lot of water as another review states and you may have to refill to complete the job but it is a TRAVEL steamer (we want it to be small to TRAVEL). Yes you have to press the button over and over to get steam as another review writes but its not a big deal and the reason it has that feature is because you can also use it as a iron. I do a large amount of buiness traveling and if you need your suits and clothes to look nice this is a must have. If you are tired of all those hotel irons that leave marks on your cloths or dribbles water all over your clothes this items will save you all those awful problems. A+ ITEM!!
