5.0 out of 5 stars Photographic Showcase, January 14, 2008
By
This review is from: Roxanne (Daab Compact Photo Book) (Hardcover)
Gabriele Rigon demonstrates the versitility of the photographic medium with a presentation of images so different from one another that one could easily forget that "Roxanne" is one person. The book. though compact, is large enough to ensure that all the photographs can be clearly seen. Some images are romantic, others gritty and risque, but they all serve to show the many differing elements that form our ideals of the beauty of the female form. Gabriele Rigon's images range from the sublime to the simple. The appeal of this work comes not from Roxanne's beauty, though she is quite stunning, but rather from the range of emotions and facets of the model's personality that Rigon's images capture. "Roxanne" is a fantastic work that showcases the entire spectrum of techniques used to photograph the female nude. Perfect for the the serious collector and anyone else interested in learning a little bit more about the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars A model's many moods, February 19, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Roxanne (Daab Compact Photo Book) (Hardcover)
These photos cover a range of styles: B&W or color, architectural skinscapes and delicate portraits, and pensive, powerful, or fragile. In a few shots, the model's face has a girl's softness and open expression; in others, her plain happiness in being a young, strong, and attractive woman dominate. Eroticism in these pictures most often lies quietly inside, as in any healthy body; at most it's a strong hint, a suggestion of a moment to come or a moment just past.

And somehow, all that comes from a single model. That doesn't surprise me. I see the same range and more in the women I'm closest to. What does surprise me is that Rigon can bring those different visions to someone who's never met Roxanne. This book, and Rigon himself, stand out for capturing so many complementary facets of one woman.

If anybody thinks that books of nude photography with one single model (who as far as I know, is not widely known, as some other that could come to mind) would hardly be worth it! Well, this is just such book, and most definitely it is worth every penny and more!

The model: young, vivacious, with the most beautiful figure and contours. Perfect on every detail. Very expressive face! The image of her nude body is simply breath taking!

The photographer: talented, skillful. He is very versatile, using several different techniques and mastering every one of them. It's the first taste I have from his work, and it has awaken my appetite for more of it.

The collection: Even after considering the merit of the photographer's talent, and the model's talent and beauty, it is still worth mentioning the variety on the collection. In almost every single shot, there is some sort of game with the light. There are black room photos, there are exterior photos (pool, and around mild vegetation, probably a back yard or similar). Over all, a good collection.

After what has been written, why four stars and not five? Well, as a collector of fine nude photography, I find the most memorable those books where there is at least one photograph that is absolutely memorable and unique; the kind of photo that is new and fresh. And although masterfully taken, the photos on this collection are not really new. It is still worth it, but some creativity would have gone even farther. If it would have been possible, I would have given it four and a half stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars 10 out of 10, but too small..., September 11, 2009

I give this 4 out of 5 stars only because it's so small in size. The model is beautiful - beautiful enough for you to not notice she's the only one in the huge tome, and leaving you wanting more. The fact that it's not fully explicit in most of the book adds to the appeal.

I absolutely LOVED this book, just wish it was larger for viewing's sake.
