Biography

Spring 1988. Two years ago Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle had formed Roxette with the ambition to conquer the world and have a lot of fun along the way. They had kick-started their career with a string of energetic hit singles like “Neverending Love”, “Soul Deep” and “I Call Your Name”. Their debut album “Pearls Of Passion” was a multi-platinum ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ballads! November 12, 2002
Format:Audio CD
I am a Roxette fan, so my rating may be a little biased! =) But seriously, I know most of these ballads are enjoyed by many people, as most of them were on the charts.
If you're a Roxette fan, you've probably already bought their previous greatest hits album "Don't Bore Us, Get To The Chorus", which had some of their ballad and pop hits. So, the ballad songs that were on their previous greatest hits album, are on this Ballad Hits album as well.
However, the addition of two new songs, and the bonus tracks are really great. I really like the new song "Breathe", it sounds like a classic Roxette ballad that should get them back (hopefully) on the charts.
I know this is an import right now, but it is supposed to be released in the US on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th) of 2003. Releasing the Ballad Hits album in the US on Valentine's Day should be a good release date, as most of us know Valentine's Day as a day for love (and ballads go with that!). It was already released here in Canada on Tuesday, November 5th, but without much promotion. Hopefully the release in the US will be better promoted (fingers crossed).
Thanks for your time.
Eugene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen To The Heart! January 29, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Listen to the heart when it's calling for you! What can be better than a heart full of raspberries on the cover of an album? The music inside. 'The Ballad Hits' is a compilation of 14 international hit singles + one previously unreleased track spanning Roxette's entire career.
1. A Thing About You - The first new single from the compilation of hits. This time Per takes the role of lead vocalist with Marie on backup, resulting in a song that I've been singing in my head since last September. This is one of those "crush" songs that Per so often writes. "Lately you've been painting my world blue | I've got a thing about you and I don't really care what you do."
2. It Must Have Been Love - Oh yes, the biggest hit of their career. Spent 2 weeks at #1 in 1990 in the USA. The song was originally released in 1987 as a Christmas single, 'It Must Have Been Love [Christmas For The Broken-Hearted].' It became a huge hit in Sweden that year but didn't get it's big break until it was slightly remixed for the 'Pretty Woman' movie in 1990. Check out the original version on the 'Pearls Of Passion' reissue (1997) and an amazing alternate "country" take on 'Tourism' (1992).
3. Listen To Your Heart - From the 'Look Sharp!' album. If you really want to "feel" the power of a power ballad, listen to this. You will be blown away. One of their most known songs, and their 2nd #1 hit in the USA.
4. Fading Like A Flower - Ahhh. There it is again. Power pop ballad! From the 'Joyride' album and #2 hit in the US. Killer chorus.
5. Spending My Time - From the 'Joyride' project as well. Following in the steps of 'Fading Like A Flower,' this is another power ballad to add to the collection.
6.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for your cd collection! January 10, 2003
Format:Audio CD
What can you say about this? Put simply it's a collection of some of the best ballads ever! From the mega hits like 'It must have been love' to the lesser known hits of 'Milk & toast & honey' Roxette deliver this great package of hits from 1989-2003 all in one. If you've ever liked anything Roxette have done buy this! The new songs are amongst their best work yet proving the Swedish dynamites still have the goods. The bonus ep leaves every true fan wondering why songs like 'It hurts' & 'everyday' never made it onto official albums they are that good. Per Gessle and Marie Fredricksson have deliverd the goods once again, buy this you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rox the House February 16, 2003
Format:Audio CD
The legacy of Roxette has continued throughout the world since 1995....except the UK and US record buying public weren't really made aware of it......EMI not necessarily the best record label in the world by any stretch, but hey-ho. The title says it all -and strategically marketed for Valentine's day - a compilation of Roxette's ballad singles (some might argue that Excited should have been included - one of the highlights of the Joyride album, and even had a video made for it) ranging from the uber-smashes It Must Have Been Love, Listen To Your Heart....you know them all. HOWEVER the wonder of this cd is that it contains classik ballads which just weren't aired in the UK but were mega-hits elsewhere. You Don't Understand Me (the only song to have an outside songwriter, Desmond Child) is a torturous epic of love gone wrong (with a cracker video to accompany), Wish I Could Fly marries a drum-loop with orchestral strings and simply stuns (you'll know this one from a car advert in 1999), Anyone is Bacharach par excellence - a true stunner and then Salvation, the 3rd ballad single from my 2nd all-time favourite album Have A Nice Day has had my friends frantically running out to buy this cd. I could go on and on....Milk and Toast is a dreamy song, Queen of Rain dark and stark, Crash! Boom! deeply gorgeous...etc. There are 2 new ballads on the single cd - the first single is called A Thing About You - Per takes the lead but Marie's backing vocals stun and add layers to this song. Perhaps the best Roxette ballad after Beautiful Things.....Breathe is another delightful Marie-led tune. Her voice is timeless, on a par with Anni-Frid's from ABBA. Forever one of my favourite groups, this cd is part 1 one Roxette's magic formula. Read more ›
