Tech Support is Non-existent,
By Alexander (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Roxio Creator 2010 [OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM)
First let me state that I am a long-time user of Roxio products and I have always been more than happy. I upgraded to this product only because its predecessor would not work with my current operating system. This is probably a good product however I could never get it to work properly and Roxio's tech support was less than helpful.
I had a problem with saving files and with components of the program spontaneously closing. I also had problems with other programs such as Photoshop Elements after installing this software. Tech support initially gave me the standard answer that I should uninstall and reinstall the program. I did this and it didn't help. They then instructed me to make some changes to my start up and registry files. Doing this not only did not solve my problem, it made my system work irratically. After giving the system a tune up with Norton 360, it worked fine but Easy Media Creator still did not work properly. Next they asked me to send them my msinfo32 file as an attachment to my help ticket. I did so and did not receive a response. Five days later they closed my help ticket and marked it solved. I replied that they had not responded to the last information I had sent and again attached my msinfo32 file. Five days later they again closed my help ticket without having responded. When I added another reply they responded that I had not sent the msinfo32 file as requested. I sent it a third time. I then got this message: "We cannot troubleshoot your problem with the msinfo32 file we had requested. Please follow the steps below to send us your system information." The steps below instructed me to copy my msinfo32 file and attach it to the help ticket. At this point I gave up. I unstalled the program and now my other software works fine. This seemed to be an indication that the problem might be with the software and not my computer. As a test to see if the problem really did lie within my computer I installed the software on a new "virgin" computer that uses a different operating system. I had the exact same problems. This further indicates that the problem is with the product not my computers. I've downloaded a trial version of a similar product by Nero and it seems to be working fine. I think I'll just write off the Roxio software as a loss and order the full version of Nero.

I have been a Roxio user and fan for many years -- and until now, their products have been great, but I have never seen such poor quality and had such a bad experience with a PC software product. After over a dozen hours of effort, this product will not install on Vista, no matter what (and I am a technical person with a degree in Computer Science & years of software experience). Phone support is $1.89 a minute, minimum 15 minutes... and the online support experience is horrendous, prompting me to write this review.
Save your patience, wits, and money and look elsewhere.

Slow and Inefficient!,

I guess the fact that it took more than thirty minutes to load on my computer, a computer with a 2GHZ processor and 2 GB of RAM, should have been a clue. This software, while adorned with more bells and whistles than one can imagine, is basically a big clunker. It it so big and clunky that it takes five minutes to open the program everytime you want to use it and it then proceeds to consume all of the computers resources while operating. Several features in the software appear not to work, such as Audio Capture. My sound card works great with everything else I do, but Roxio can't recognize the sound card. The process of making a movie is cumbersome and complicated for the average user and you really have to read their entire 200 page manual (not provided but online) to learn the basics. Overall, very disappointed.

Roxio Creator has serious problems with installing and then after it is installed, it won't run, or is an incomplete install. Roxio must not have a solution to these problems, because they do not respond to email requests for help with this problem, and best yet, if you want to speak to a person to try to get help, be ready to pay for it, so the real price of the program is ????? not to mention the hours of frustration. I have had it with Roxio. Good luck.

I was looking forward to burning DVDs from my HD Canon camcorder. Installed the program and rebooted as instructed. Now, in the middle of my screen, an error box appears(the one that gives you the option to Send Error Report of Don't Send to Microsoft about this problem). No matter what choice you make, the error report is on some sort of loop and just reappears - there's no getting rid of it. The error message goes like this: "IndivDRM has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I submitted a ticket and got a response rather quickly. Unfortunately, they need the error message in full (like they've never seen one of those Microsoft pop up error report boxes). So, it could be a simple fix or it could be one of those situations where they need their IT experts to look into it. From reading previous reviews, my expectations are very low. So, if you want to take the chance that this will work right away, go for it. But be prepared to put aside quite a bit of time in case it doesn't. Good luck!

I downloaded the internet version and when I started having trouble with it and experience the horrible Roxio customer service I ordered the the CD to download the software once again I had more issues with it working properly.
The first look is very nice, pretty templates .. but be aware - it often strikes on you. Would never recommend this software to anyone!!!

Does not measure up to description,
This review is from: Roxio Creator 2010 [OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM)
Hugely disappointing. I paid for it on my factory ordered Dell laptop and I deeply regret having made the choice. Issues
- Not intuitive as far as usability goes - No real features that differentiate it with the software that accompanied by sony camera and handycam. Infact my Sony software worked faster and more efficiently

Does not install on 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise ed. without a patch for setup from Roxio technical support.
Creator 2010 does install on 64-bit Vista Ultimate and 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium out of the box. You need to download service pack 1 from Roxio and install it. DVD writing to Plextor and Samsung drives was a bit troublesome prior to doing so.

Terrible!!!,
This review is from: Roxio Creator 2010 [OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM)
Absolutely terrible!!! Video copy and convert does not work!! I've reinstalled multiple times with no luck. Even the copy DVD is slower than previous versions. I thought a newer version would be better but it doesn't come close other than the new interface. It also no longer supports Divx! I will never by another Roxio product again.

I decided to buy the latest version of Roxio Creator for one reason: I have a DL DVD drive, and the earlier version didn't support the DL format. (I bought the drive to use with backup software that did support it, but it seemed like a good idea to have general purpose software that supported it, as well.) This software will write DL DVDs, but that's about the only positive thing I have to say about it.
The basic interface is much more graphical, and much less useful. Some features are only accessible if you open the modules separately. This works, but what is the point of having a slick graphical interface if you have to bypass it to do what you want to do? A second complaint is that older versions were good for cuing up multiple audio CDs and directly writing a new audio CD. This version wants to rip everything and then convert it back to CD format. So it really doesn't do anything you can't do (more easily) in Windows Media Player or iTunes. Other than being able to write DL DVDs this version is less useful than the older version I had. |
