Before Roxy's recent reformation, this was the most complete concert available for the band. The band was supporting their most successful album "Avalon". While many of the performances are memorable, the band's sound had become quite slick at this point incorporating more disco type beats. Without the powerhouse drumming of Paul Thompson (Andy Newmark is a great drummer and more diverse but he lacks Paul's thumping sound)the songs are more lanquid, loose and relaxed. If you're a fan of the band's last trio of albums ("Manifesto", "Flesh + Blood" and "Avalon")this is the perfect chill out album full of sweet melodies and love songs.I'm a long time Roxy Music fan and prefer their latest concert video "Live at the Apollo" because it captures much of their fire evident in their concerts prior to 1976. With original drummer Paul Thompson back firmly in the rhythm chair, it's a superior performance all around. The only people missing are Eno (who was invited but didn't want to participate)and Eddie Jobson (keyboards and electric violin). Covering their entire history, "Apollo" gives the listener a better sense of what this groundbreaking band was all about. Also, the video direction is better for "Apollo". "The High Road" is still a great document of the end of the line for Roxy Music. I had this on video and laserdisc and purchased it on DVD simply because I'm a die hard fan. The song selection for both is extremely good and Roxy fans will be pleased to have documents from both parts of the band's career. Your preference will probably be dictated by what stage you got into Roxy Music (i.e., "Avalon" vs. "Country Life" or even "For Your Pleasure").

This as an utterly AWESOME music DVD in every way. The sound is superb, the performance is seamless, the camera-work and editing is totally professional. I like this DVD much more than the more highly-rated "Live at the Apollo". If I had to find any quibble, it would be that the tempo of "Love is the Drug" is a little brisk, but that's why we buy live recordings...to hear a different take. It is amazing that such a polished recording could possibly be achieved live....it's just staggering really.

Most of Roxy's fans will buy all their DVD's as each of them offers a different lineup of the band and different songs .This lineup had an exceptional rhythm section , who help give the songs a lift and they make me want to watch and listen again and again . One gets a good idea of how mellow Roxy could be as the ballads are convincingly done , with stirring lead work by Neil Hubbard on MY ONLY LOVE being the highpoint of a standout version . A good release - maybe one day they will be able to clean up the picture . I'm very happy with the music , however . Worth a spin for those fans of this influential band .

Roxy Music is great on the "High Road" music video, saw it in Amsterdam for the first time years ago at the old Hard Rock in 1990 or so. Now own the Roxy " Live at the Appollo" . Both are great, one when the band was young and one when they are much older. Both are great. Enjoy both; we can not be young forever ,except in our own memories. Great group and very under-appreciated. Steve ,, Georgetown ,TX

I have had the video tape of this Roxy Music performance for years. I watched it a lot but the tape was old and I was very pleased to find it on DVD in its origional form. If you like Roxy Music this is a 5 star performance.

Short and simple: a "Roxy Music" DVD without Paul Thompson is like the Rolling Stones (God forbid) without Charlie Watts. "Avalon" is the DVD you want - refer to my review above.

Much prefer this to the later "Live at the Apollo", which was frantically edited and in which the band members were really showing their age.I like the idea of preserving the original lineup, but there's no comparison in the drumming of Newmark vs. Thompson; their discographies are very lopsided.

Great Concert - Bad DVD,

I have had this concert on VHS for almost 20 years and have been waiting for the DVD. I just purchased this today and to my surprise it seems like the picture and audio are not in sync. The sound and picture are about a second off from each other. Did anyone else encounter this problem or did I just get a bad DVD.
