Excellent collection from a versatile country artist,
By
This review is from: Roy Clark - Greatest Hits [Varese] (Audio CD)
Roy Clark is far too often stereo-typed as the big-grinning, banjo picking country bumpkin of the Hee-Haw television series. This album is ample proof that he is to be taken seriously as a legitimate musical artist. To be sure, Roy's instrumental prowess is displayed in a powerful rendition of "Ghost Riders in the Sky" and in the silly but enjoyable "Lawrence Welk - Hee-Haw Counter-Revolutionary Polka." He also does some grinning with the thoroughly tongue-in-cheek "Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone." However, Roy Clark's very best offerings are ballads, and he excels at heart-rending lyrics. Three of his best are here; "Tips of My Fingers", "Yesterday, When I Was Young" and "Somewhere Between Love and Tomorrow." Also included is Roy's homage to the gritty side of country, "I Never Picked Cotton." If you are a fan of Roy Clark, this album will become a cherished addition to your collection. If you aren't a fan, this disc will make you one.

Here is the single best Cd of Roy Clark available. All of Roy Clark's biggest and best known songs all in their original versions all on one disc. Very good packaging also, with a great biograhpy along with recording dates and chart positions.

Great Album, Amazing musician,
This review is from: Roy Clark - Greatest Hits [Varese] (Audio CD)
When I was young I used to hate having to watch "Hee Haw", Then when my parents split up, and my mother gave me a box of stuff my dad left behind, and said to throw out what I didnt want. I listened to this album, it is ammazing, Roy Clark is an amazing musician, very versatile and creative. He knows so many instruments and is very good at them all. Almost like an older version of Phil Collins. I reccommend this album to any one who wants good quality music!

I REMEMBER ROY,
By
This review is from: Roy Clark - Greatest Hits [Varese] (Audio CD)
About 1936 or 37 I heard the Carter Family on the radio and fell in love with country music. I listened to them all as I grew up. Roy Rogers, Hank Williams, Minnie Pearl (she was a comedian and I thought she was the greatest), Hawkshaw Hawkins, et al.
I always liked Roy Clark. I enjoyed his pickin', singing and story telling. He was great at all of the above. Somewhere in the 80s he came to Chicago. Several friends and myself went to see his show. He walked out on the stage with nothing but a stool and a guitar. He sat down on the stool and proceeded to keep the whole audience spellbound with his singing, pickin' and storytelling. He was the greatest!! This album brings back a lot of good memories because these are the songs that were hits at the time. He told the story of life -- Right or Left at Main Stree; Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone. And those love ballads. Fantastic. This is a compilation of, what I think are, his best songs and my favorites. This is Roy at his best. You will not be disappointed when you purchase this, or any other of Roy's, records.

The Best Roy Clark Hits Compilation,
By
This review is from: Roy Clark - Greatest Hits [Varese] (Audio CD)
Roy Clark's Greatest Hits is the only one of his many works in which you get every single one of his big country hits, including "Come Live With Me." Roy has always received many, many accolades for his great works as a non-singing musician(and deservedly so!), but rarely gets the praise he deserves for the great hits he recorded during the 1960's and 1970's. So, if it's the great voice of Roy Clark you want and you want all his big hits in one compilation, this is the CD to get!

For those of you that have heard Roy Clark's voice, this is a treat from memory lane and, for those that have never heard his voice, it is also a treat. One of the most talented stars of country music and a collection of some of his most memorable songs. I'm very pleased.

I received my CD today, and appreciate the speedy way my order was shipped. The CD is typical of Roy Clark's music; entertaining and delightful. I especially love "Come Live With Me and Yesterday." These two songs seems to me to be Roy' Clark's signature songs."

If you are looking for a collection of Roy Clark's songs, without them being being re-recorded, this is the CD you want. All the songs are the original versions. The Varese label did it right when they put this CD together. This CD brought back a lot of good memories for me. Yesterday When I Was Young, Come Live With Me, and Honeymoon Feeling have always been my favorite Roy Clark tunes. But listening to the entire CD gives you that long ago feeling of how great Country Music was and what a great singer Roy Clark is.
