Editorial Reviews

For the first time ever, some of the all-time greatest performances from one of history's most unique artists are collected in one place on DVD. Roy Orbison may not have had the gyrating hips of Elvis to make the crowds go wild, by what he did posess was a voice so uncannily emotional and honest that his audience would sit in total silence, savoring every note and hanging on every word, While Roy's formidable songwritng skills could make virtually any singer sound good, when applied to his beautifully peculiar pipes, his creations simply soared. Featuring his timeless classics "Only the Lonely," "You Got It," "Crying," "Pretty Woman" and many more, this is Roy Orbison at his absolute finest. With special guest appearances by k.d. lang, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, and many more!

This special takes 13 Roy Orbison hits, and all these are live pefromances from concerts and live appearances including Roy Orbison and Freinds, a Black and White Night, and Roy Orbison live at Austin City Limits. The specials features are 2 musical videos, when where Roy Orbison does a deut with k.d. lang on Crying, and She's a Mystery to Me. And there have special appprances frpm Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Tom Wait, Bonnie Raitt, Jennifer Warnes, k.d. lang, and T Bone Bournett, all from the Black and White Night concert. The songs are

1. Go, Go, Go, (Down the Line)

2. In Dreams

3. Blue Bayou

4. Ooby Dooby

5. Only the Lonely

6. It's Over

7. Claudette

8. That Lovin' You Feelin' Again

9. You Got It

10. Crying

11. Walk on

12. Running Scared

13. Oh, Pretty Woman

What I like about this, they have the program on dvd, and cd both together, so that you can listen to it, if you don't feel like watching it, or you can watch it if you don't feel like listening to it. I haven't really see the specials features, but in bewtween songs (or most of them) Roy Orbison talks, a gives you a little history about his carrier, and the songs that he pefromances. I might have swpet Walk on for Candy Man. You Got iIt was recored, and played on his final cd "Mystery Girl" that was released in 1989, after his death. It was too bad that he died when he did, but he had a great carrier, and there are plenty of songs, and dvds that his fans can rememeber him by.

The more you listen, the more you appreciate the music of Roy Orbison. Most of the songs are quite emotional but lively. Background instrumental music is also amazing. Video is not quite perfect, but what matters most to me is the audio.
Highly recommended. To see is to believe, find out for yourself.

Since I have most of Roy's DVD I was influenced by some reviewers'
remarks about the special features. The first part of this CD are
excerpts from other well known DVD so there's nothing new. The only
"novelty" is Roy's "Walk On" from 1968. The interesting thing, indeed,
is part two where they show us the making of "King of Hearts" and
"I Drove All Night" + the musical videos "She's A Mistery To Me" and
"Crying". Besides a lot of details presented by his wife Barbara.
It also holds a song never heard before which was recorded in 1957 and
finally the difference between hearing "Crying" in MONO and STEREO during
Roy's famous concert in Holland.

I really enjoyed the performances on the CD part of the set, however, I have not reviews the DVD yet. I can say that the talking portion where Roy explains about the songs while interesting does detract from my listening experience. I would have expected the comments on the DVD but not on the music CD. Still the tones are great and Roy is a master of mellow voices!

More performances by this great singer spanning his whole career, produced by his widow. Who more sincerely creates songs about the turmoil and disappointments of relationships?
No one has been better at constructing a song either, even the Beatles. With all the crescendoing emotions.
Operatic has been best used to describe this music.
He started out at Sun records, whose Rockabilly style was far too limiting for his talents.
The best DVD of course of Orbison is his performance on Black and White nights, on which so many Rock and Roll greats accompanied him on the PBS special. Most of his best songs can also be found there and he was even better then just before he died.

I hadn't realized the number of stars that helped in this concert. It was interesting and funny to see how several of the stars looked when this was recorded. The trouble was identifing the various stars, based on how they looked then.

Nice, but Black and White Night is better in quality and sound. I actually bought both for my husband, and he enjoys both, but he has watched Black and White Night over and over; whereas, he watched this one twice...

Great music by Aaron Tippin.. I enjoy using this way to make purchases. Would like to be able to get free books for my Kindle. But it doesn't work after I do what your directions tell me.
