5.0 out of 5 stars The Voice
In rock music, there are few who have a voice easily recognizable. In the early 60s Roy was one of the solo artist rock male vocalists who stood out from the crowd along with contempories Gene Pitney and Del Shannon. 2.0 out of 5 stars Good Show... Terrible Transfer
I love Roy Orbison. This show sounded very good. However, Image Entertainment didn't properly transfer this video. Often times, you see color separation in the video and it looks very primative. Yes, it is a very old video but New West Records has done a much better with Austin City Limits transfers delivering superior sound and picture quality. It looks like Image...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Voice, February 9, 2004

This review is from: Roy Orbison - Live at Austin City Limits (DVD)
In rock music, there are few who have a voice easily recognizable. In the early 60s Roy was one of the solo artist rock male vocalists who stood out from the crowd along with contempories Gene Pitney and Del Shannon. When I saw Roy perform on Austin City Limits in 1982 I was mesmerized. Twenty plus years later after watching this DVD again, the same feeling was there. Roy's voice is in excellent form and though he says almost nothing between songs and stands still on stage, he is obviously enjoying himself. Roy just stands there and belts out the hits from the classics like In Dreams and Oh Pretty Woman to the bouncy Lana and Working For The Man. And the audience is eating it up, applauding at introductions to the songs they recognize and smiling along with the Big O.Some say Roy had the best male voice in rock music ever. Whether one agrees or not, I doubt anyone will be disappointed in this DVD because the voice is in great form.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Video, February 26, 2003
By
"blithgow2" (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
What I found so great about this video is: It was done in Texas, Roys home state, here in America. Also seeing this live in color for a change was very nice, it made me feel Roy was here.

Hearing and seeing him do Lana and That Loving You Feeling Again was exciting and special. But, what really moved me was his singing of It's Over, the best I've heard!

If you love Roy Orbison like I do, I highly recommend this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roy Orbison/Austin City Limits, August 16, 2005
This review is from: Roy Orbison - Live at Austin City Limits (DVD)
This is a truly outstanding DVD of Roy Orbison at his best. It is a must have to any fan's R&R collection. I especially enjoyed Ooby-Dooby and Go, Go, Go Down the Line, his first record release and the first song he wrote. The tribute to the "Hound Dog Man" was very touching. The other track were just plain great listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Live "The Big O", January 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Roy Orbison - Live at Austin City Limits (DVD)
Fortunately while "The Big O" was alive I had the honor of seeing him live four times. On this DVD copy of Live At Austin City Limits, Roy handles his crowd the same way as when I saw him. He starts everything off very slow and easy and by the time he belts out "Crying" he has the crowd eating out of his hand and screaming for more.

I found the DVD very enjoyable. The only black mark against it is that early in the DVD there seem to be some problems with focusing of the stage right camera, which made some scenes to appear blurry at times. I enjoyed the many close-ups of Roy. You could see how much he was enjoying himself and you could make out how little effort he was using with his 10 octave voice to reach those high notes that became his legacy.

Although I found his band over played "Working for the Man," it was a pleasure to hear Roy perform it on this DVD. It is a very difficult number to do both musically and vocally. All in all I enjoyed this DVD and would recommend it to any Roy Orbison fan, young or old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, July 5, 2003

If you're a Roy Orbison fan or just an oldies fan , get this DVD. I own both Black & white Night and Live in Austin Texas. And I love them both. The Black & White Audio is superior to The Austin DVD.....But COLOR is COLOR. I think it gives more depth than the Black & White. That's why I own both. Two totally different atmospheres...that's what sets them apart. If you watch your videos in two channel rather than surround, you should'nt notice much of a difference. Again you have to remember the supporting cast of Black & White was excellent. There I go again. Buy them both, you won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A LEGENDARY GREAT PERFORMANCE, December 25, 2006

Don't believe the reviews that would lead you to believe this is a sub-par show. Yes, "A Black And white Night" has better sound quality and has a better band backing him up, (how could it not be better given the personel) but this is the real Roy Orbison in all his artistic glory. They don't make 'em like him anymore. Thankfully we have DVD's like this to re-live his great performances forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic!, September 27, 2004
This review is from: Roy Orbison - Live at Austin City Limits (DVD)
I buy Black and white night, and Live at Austin city limits at the same time.First DVD is very very good, but for me Live at Austin is
absolutly fantastic.I watch that DVD at least 3 times a week, or if I be honest every day! For me Roy is the greatest singer ever, and the world music is unlucky because Roy died at only 52.
But Roy lives in my mind and my TV every day!
You must buy this DVD!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Roy Orbison - Live at Austin City Limits (DVD)
Ordinarily it would have been a pleasure to watch and listen to this release. But having just watched 'Black & White Night' this newly purchased DVD 'Live at Austin City Limits' is a big let down. Same songs and star but the back ups and supporting artists just don't carry their own. The arrangement is the biggest flop. This album is going to the garage sale.
Save your $ and buy 'Black & White Night'-it's as good as 'Live at Austin City Limits' is a disappointment.
