Things that are annoying about most paper shredders:
(1) They keep getting jammed
(2) The teeth break
(3) They always need to be emptied

I purchased the Royal 150MX for light to medium home use, and it has worked very well, avoiding all of the problems I have listed. This product is on the large side but holds a lot of shredded paper as a result, I would say about 200 sheets before you need to empty it. To date I have shredded about 1000 sheets of paper without one jam, which may seem like a bold claim to someone who is used to using a paper shredder but is nonetheless true. The shredder still runs smoothly without annoying clicking or crunching sounds that cheaper shredders make when the teeth get out of alignment. The product automatically stops when the bin is full, a feature that prevents backup jams which will destroy a typical shredder.

To summarize: I am extremely happy with this product. And as a word of advice to anyone getting a shredder for the first time, IMHO, don't be afraid to over buy: get a nice shredder such as this one. It may be double the price of some cheaper models (I say this after having had serious, terminal problems with a cheaper Fellowes shredder), but it is five times as reliable. You will use the product more than you think, especially in these days with all of the identity theft going on out there. Plus, it will bring a smile to your face and remind you of Orwell every time you use your brand new memory hole.

When I ordered this shredder, I received notification from UPS that it had been "damaged in shipment." I contacted the vendor who immediately contacted UPS and found out that some hair products from the same shipment had leaked on the box my shredder was in - yet did no damage to the unit inself which was packed securely in styrofoam and plastic wrap. When the unit arrived, it worked like a charm! This unit purrs and even tells you when to empty the basket. When I questioned the vendor about maintenance and oiling, he contacted the manufacturer personally and discovered (to my delight) that no oiling, etc. was required. I received first class customer service from the vendor - and would not hesitate to do business with him again!

I finally got tired of my inexpensive shredder that was limited to 5 sheets and constantly jammmed, so I decided to look for a product that would give me no aggravation and just shred without problems. This shredder is it.

Please note that the shredder that I and the other reviewers purchased was the Royal 150MX. For some reason Amazon has pictured a much more expensive shredder above our reviews.

I use this in my home to shred all the unsolicted credit card offers that I get in the mail, expired credit cards, bank statements, etc.--bascially anything that an identity thief would like to see.

This is a heavy duty unit that is a pleasure to use since it shreds so easily. The wastebasket is large, easily removable, and designed to empty easily without spilling the shredded contents(as can happen with some cheaper shredders).

The unit looks nice and has quality construction. It is probably overkill for the amount of shredding that I do at home, but the ease of operation and lack of aggravation makes it all worthwhile to me.

The best price is currently from Costco online(they don't have it in their stores).

I tend to let a task such as shredding accumulate so once a month I was faced with 3 hours of shredding using my little $39.95 shredder. With the 150MX it takes less than 30 minutes and I think it may just last longer than the 1-2 years I get from a cheap shredder. It is also much quieter.

The difference in time is due to 2 reasons, 1) you don't have to pull the mail from the envelope and feed it in sheets, just toss the envelope in and 2) since you run less cycles, heat cutout doesn't slow you down. Like most shredders, it has a duty cycle and will cutout based on motor heat but I did not experience it when shredding a full month of mail.

The other problem the MX150 solves is getting rid of old CD backups. By nature, these discs often contain personal data that must be destroyed. This thing eagerly eats them and turns a CD into mincemeat.

Overall, I highly recommend the MX150.

JUst received this shredder after old one "died." Read some reviews on the net about problems, but I have just pushed about 30 pounds of old paper records, tax returns, photographs and checkbooks through without it missing a beat. This thing is really quiet, powerful and efficient. The only time it jammed is when I tried to make it jam, by putting more than 15 pages through at a time. It stopped, reversed itself and cleared the jam with out a problem. This thing works. The 3/4 hp moter and all steel gears make a difference.

I received the Royal 150MX Paper Shredder last week. Right out of the box it has performed as stated by Royal as well as reviewers. I can easily shred credit cards and CDs as well as unopened junkmail (e.g. credit card offers). This is a crosscut shredder, but even so, I was still impressed with the small size of the crosscuts. So far I am very pleased with the performance.

This Royal 150MX was a replacement for a Royal ag15 shredder. The old one was 4 1/2 yrs. old, it still worked great and never any problems, except a few minor jams; but that was my fault. A friend's mother wanted to borrow it for some shredding of personal papers, old bills, etc. and I just decided to give it to her; she's around 80 and can't afford one.

The new one arrived in a slightly damaged, original manufacturer's carton but the unit was undamaged itself. I suggested to seller that they use a heavier shipping carton when shipping long distance. I plugged the new one in and put it to work immediately and seems quieter than the old one. A feature I like is the 8 3/4" opening so you don't have to fight with the paper to get it in.

Btw, the instructions don't say anything about oiling this machine, as some other brands recommend. My old one never needed any maintenance. A tip on preventing jams, turn off machine first, then open basket drawer enough to put your hand gently under the grinders, and pull away any accumulated shreddings/clumps that may stick to them; sometimes this happens with heavy usage. I got into the habit of doing this when I finished, and had very few jams.

In summation, I highly recommend this shredder, if it's anything like my old one, it will make scrap out of a lot of paper.

After giving up on my old Fellowes 400C (realizing I was long overdue for a shredder upgrade), I researched online and decided that the Royal 150MX would be a good choice.

I am not disappointed at all! I love the large wastebasket, it seems to take forever to fill it up! Also, I like the way the basket removes from the main body, so it's easy to empty. Having the unit on casters is nice too, since it is a fairly heavy unit.

The price seems very reasonable too (Costco), and I had it delivered it to my door. Definitely a good buy!

It worked good until the nylon gear stripped. I only used it for at home shredding. I tried to not over stuff it as instructed, but all of a sudden it started making a slight clicking sound then it quit shredding, however the motor is still trying to engage the gears, but the one nylon gear has a bad spot on it. If you get it off that bad spot the gear spins one rotation until it hits the spot again. It will be cheaper to buy a new one than have this one repaired. I bought it at Sam's for $99 and got one year out of it!

yes I ordered, then looked at previous reviews and was concerned.
But the machine is fabulous. We replaced an IBM shredder with a much smaller basket and much louder.
This Royal is a dream. quiet, efficient, much larger pull out basket with an alarm that tells you when to empty it, instead of looking all the time.
