Old Country Roses no longer made in England,
By
This review is from: Royal Albert Old Country Roses Boxed Cup and Saucer (Kitchen)
The quality of Old Country Roses used to be excellent. In 2002-2003, they moved their production to Indonesia, and then to China. The quality has dropped substantially since then, and so have the prices. You get what you pay for.
- China-made pieces are heavier and thicker - China-made pieces have less accurate gold-work If its any consolation, all the major brands of fine china are shifting production to Asia from England and Europe, with commensurate decreases in quality, and sometimes in price.

Excellent Customer Service,

I received as a gift, a set of four of these with 3 other plate sizes as well. It's a very nice set for the money. I would have expected a better quality product but it is still a nice set. The china is not as thin as I would have expected, but again, for the price it is very nice. The pattern is classic and well done.
One of the cups was broken and they are already shipping the replacement, no questions asked. That's customer service I can get on board with. I have another tea set that was made in Japan and hand painted, but so far, I think this is the better set simply because the company stands behind their product. A-

This is the best looking china I have ever owned!!! I have owned very expensive sets and none can compare to the look and feel of the Royal Doulton Old Country Rose collection. This is a must have for anyone looking for a classic set of china at a great price.

Exactly what I expected. First quality china. Just remember to put a spoon in the cup before pouring tea or it will crack.

My wife wanted a Royal Albert Old Country Roses Boxed Cup and Saucer. Consequently, I ordered them for her. When they arrived I was amazed by the quality and beauty of this cup and saucer set. I knew about Bone China but never had held a piece in my hand. Since making this purchase we now have acquired six other different Royal Albert Bone China Cup and Saucer sets. They all are well crafted and make excellent display pieces. The sets also quite functional. We use them to drink tea on a regular basis. We consider all of these Royal Albert cup and saucer sets to be have five star ratings. William J. RiceRoyal Albert Old Country Roses Boxed Cup and Saucer

I just received my Royal Albert Old Country Roses, Boxed Cup and Saucer.
They are my first two pieces and I am EXTREMELY more than satisfied! They are truly beautiful, better than the pic. much better in fact. I had absolutely no problem, they came in very secure packaging and nothing was broken. Also, they came on the EXACT date the seller said they would. I may not be an "expert" on fine China, but I certainly know what I like and what I deem is BEAUTIFUL! Highly recommend seller and product!

Beautiful Teacup and Saucer Set,

I read all the Amazon reviews for this Royal Albert Old Country Roses teacup and saucer set, and decided to buy the set. This set arrived a couple of days ago, and it is beautiful. Like another Amazon reviewer, Denise, wrote, this, too, is my first Royal Albert teacup and saucer set. I don't own many pieces of fine china teacup and saucers. After the Royal Wedding of William and Kate, I thought to myself, why don't I have my own fine china teacup and saucer set? In the past, I bought teacup and saucer sets for other people, but not for myself. This teacup and saucer set arrives in a nice Royal Doulton box. There were no chips or defects with this china set. The gold trimmings on both the teacup and saucer add extra elegance and beauty. And the old country roses design is pretty. I like that there is a miniature pattern of the old country roses inside the teacup as well. It adds some extra visual dimension to the teacup. Like another Amazon reviewer, M. Knock, wrote, the only downside to this teacup and saucer set is that there is no "Made in England" stamp on the bottom of the teacup or saucer. Both the bottom of the teacup and saucer are imprinted with: "Old Country Roses, Royal Albert, Bone China, 1962 Royal Albert Ltd". I looked on the outside of the Royal Doulton box. It says, "Made in Bangladesh". Nonetheless, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. And this teacup and saucer set is reasonably affordable! Like I said before, it was the Royal Wedding of William and Kate that inspired me to get this teacup and saucer set, but for some reason, this teacup and saucer set looked familiar to me. I remember seeing some celebrity drinking from this exact same teacup and saucer set. I then thought, who is a celebrity who has been photographed a lot with many teacups in the past? I then immediately thought about Lady Gaga and how she always has a teacup with her everywhere she travels because it makes her feel at home and grounded, and reminds her of her past daily tea time with her mother. She also believes in reducing waste, and thus drinking from fine china teacups means that she doesn't have to throw away plastic/styrofoam/disposable cups. Lady Gaga is so infamous for always drinking from a teacup that she has Facebook pages dedicated to her teacup(s), and fans have been known to buy or make special teacups for her when they attend and meet her at her concerts. Even Sir Elton John gave her a vintage tea piece set. I found out that Lady Gaga drank from the Royal Albert/Royal Doulton Old Country Roses teacup and saucer set at the 2010 Grammys. Since I can't link pictures from other websites to this Amazon page, go to Google's search engine and type "Lady Gaga", "2010 Grammys", and "teacup", and then click on any of the OK! Magazine or Zimbio.com links with the topic of Lady Gaga taking teacup to Grammys. And you will see some pictures of her with the Grammy Awards audience seated with this teacup and saucer set in her hands, some including pictures of her talking to singer Celine Dion. The best page is gagafashionland - type "gagafashionland.com/category/teacups/ in the URL and you will see some teacups Lady Gaga owns with the Royal Albert Old Country Roses Teacup and Saucer at the top of the page. Just another amusing fact about this Royal Albert/Royal Doulton teacup and saucer set! Last night, I drank some Numi Moroccan Mint Tea with this teacup and saucer set, and it was actually fun to be drinking from this fine china teacup and saucer set!

Good for display only, gilt fades easily,

If you are thinking about using Royal Albert china, be very careful when cleaning them. The gilt comes off so easily and the set does not look attractive with faded gilt. I used diluted mild dish detergent and very soft sponge but part of the gilt still disappeared after 2 wash. The gold on handle faded/discolored just by pressing my thumb on it. I put clear nail polish over the gilt to stop the fading, if anyone knows better ways to prevent the gilt from disappearing please enlighten me.
