The only real disadvantage is that you have to do the cleaning yourself and it is definitely work if you don't have the self-propelled model. The unit is fairly heavy when filled with water, but soon enough the lower "dirty water" holder fills, the noise of the cleaner changes, and you can empty the unit to make it lighter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Carpet Cleaning Crap
Bought this brand new, and used it twice. Why twice? Because after cleaning part of my living room, the spray decided not to come out. I re-installed everything, and took it apart, and checked everything, but nothing came out when turned on, and the trigger depressed. I waited an hour, and it decided to spray again, only this time there was no suction.

The main advantage of this carpet cleaner is that it is about half the price of having your carpets cleaned once. Even if this broke after the first use, you would have saved money.

The unit is relatively easy to push, although a self-propelled would be better if you enjoy cleaning the entire house all at once.

There are tricky ways to use this so you get a spray pattern that covers heavy traffic areas completely. I went over them in an X pattern instead of just straight back and forth and also went over some areas two to three times, especially by the front door.

If you have pets, you may be amazed at how much dog/cat hair is in the carpet. I was shocked because I vacuum all the time and the carpet had just been vacuumed. The cleaner seems to loosen the pet hair so it can easily be extracted from the carpet and there are brushes that literally pick up the hair. The next day you can vacuum the carpet and complete the process.

For each room you clean, you may have to empty the unit at least 2-3 times. That means when cleaning a small apartment, you may need to empty the unit about 15-20 times and refill the water container at least 5 or more times. If you have pets, you might need to rinse out the unit now and then.

The suction on the unit seemed superior and the drying time seemed shorter than when I've had professional cleaning. Surprisingly enough, the carpet also looked way cleaner and was almost "fluffy" in comparison the sticky residue left by commercial carpet cleaners.

The funniest part was how my oldest cat took a liking to the fresh clean scent of the carpet and was rolling about as if I'd sprinkled catnip on the carpet.

While cleaning, you can see the bubbly water returning to the machine, so it is easy to monitor the water leaving the carpet. You can go over the area multiple times and that is recommended because it kept removing water.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this carpet cleaner and over time it will save me hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. For quick clean up or stairs, there is an attachment. The carpet cleaner doesn't get all the way to the edges of the carpet without the attachment, but that area of the carpet didn't seem that dirty at all, so it doesn't seem to be a problem.

The beauty of this cleaner is that on one day you can clean around the couch and on the next, you can move the couch and clean that area. So, overall, you might get more carpet cleaned because of the convenience of doing it yourself.

The cleaning formula in the box is an allergen formula and I must say that even the air in the house feels cleaner now that allergens have been removed from the carpet. Now that I've cleaned all the main areas (one room to go), I can see myself using this carpet cleaner on a room by room basis or for spills. It will also be perfect for high-traffic areas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product but not a steam cleaner, June 26, 2007
This review is from: Dirt Devil Easy Steamer (Kitchen)
They call this product easy steamer. It is easy but it is not a steam cleaner. It uses hot water which does not turn into steam.
Having said that, the machine is very easy to use and it is effective. We were surprised how dirty the water was in the tank which clearly showed how much unseen dirt was in the rug.
I would recommend this product .

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, September 3, 2007

This carpet cleaner is great for smaller living spaces. I have a two bedroom condo with a small office and these are the only carpeted areas. You probably cannot do more than one average sized room at a time with the water in the holding container. You will also probably need to go over a room more than once. Also, by "steamer" they mean you have to use very hot water.

You need to make sure that when you are covering an area you move very slowly. You cannot move quickly like when you are vaccuming.

Overall, I think it's a good value for the price. I knew that I would have to spend a lot more if I wanted something more powerful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirt Devil Easy Steamer, August 27, 2007
This review is from: Dirt Devil Easy Steamer (Kitchen)
I reccommend this product. The cleaner works very well. I was shocked at how much dirt it pulled out of my carpet. One very nice thing, it really takes up the water so the carpets are ready to walk on in a very short time.
The only problem I had, and it's a small problem, I couldn't figure out from the diagrams how to store the upholstery attachment onto the machine. I have not used this attachment yet so cannot say how well this works

5.0 out of 5 stars good clean/ good price, February 25, 2008
My husband cleans carpet but like the cobbler's son, my carpet very seldom gets a professional clean. I bought this to touch up high traffic areas. It can't do what a professional can, but for the price it does really great. The small (1 gal) fresh water/dirty water tanks require frequent fills and dumps, but that's better for me than working with a unit that becomes very heavy due to more water on board. My arthritis usually kicks in after I have done a good deal of physical labor, and I expected to be sore after cleaning several rooms, but that didn't happen.

I like that you can see the water extraction through the top of the unit. You can easily see if you have pulled up what you have sprayed. The rotary brushes work better than I anticipated. You may have to pretreat and hand scrub tough spots, but at this price from Unbeatable Sales, you still come out cheaper than a professional clean. Over all, great for the price and I would highly recommend.

This thing is a piece of crap.

I suggest avoiding this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, March 25, 2008
This review is from: Dirt Devil Easy Steamer (Kitchen)
I've had many "low-end" steam cleaners-meaning under $150. This is the worst by far. It shoots the water out, but doesn't suck it back up. Also, the design of the hose attachment is not good. It's clumsy and in the way to have it stored on the cleaner as it is designed to do so. I would recommend either going with a bissell or spending more money.

After disappointing results with other products, I'm glad I tried Dirt Devil. I have their dustbuster and quick clean carpet products, and have found the steam cleam shampooer to be an excellent product too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great household tool-it earned it's keep!, January 29, 2009

First let me thank Amazon for getting this to me in less than 22 hours even though I selected free shipping! I bought it for the upholstery cleaning tool, never intending to use it on my carpet-really, but I did, and I love the results-for both! My pale suede furniture is sparkling and free of the coffee stain, (a crime I committed) and food stains, (crimes committed by teen boys). I read in another review that the carpeting stayed wet too long, but I find that this depends on the fibers in your carpeting, and room ventilation. My living room carpet was bare foot dry in 2 hours and yet the hall carpet stayed wet overnight. All & all for the cost of this machine it served me very well in its maiden voyage throughout my house! I look forward to using it in my car, and sharing it with my mom to help ease the work in her high traffic areas.

I had purchased a Dirt Devil carpet cleaner some years back and it was put together well and did a good job cleaning as well as removing water. This model is definitely not worth the money even if it is cheaper than other carpet cleaners. It is flimsy, difficult to use and left half the water in the carpet (I measured it). I don't have anything good to say about this product.
