Product Description

Royal Blood is a mixture of anguished vocals, ferocious drumming and bass that provides intricate detail as well as a rumble of rhythm. The sound is a result of a lineage that stretches from present day heroes Queens of the Stone Age to the influential Led Zeppelin, and all the way back to early blues pioneers... yet this huge wall of sound emerges from just two members.

Review

Primal. Gigantic. Loud as cannons. Royal Blood are all of these things. - NME --nme

Sounds like The White Stripes ram-raiding Led Zeppelin s back catalogue. --Kerrang!

Chief flag-bearers for riff-based rock n roll. - Q --q

Like a cool fresh hybrid of Marc Bolan/T.Rex and Jack White/White Stripes, and few other things thrown into the mix...this record is an ace discovery!! Granted, I just went by my hunches with this one, and I trust my instincts 100%...again, they've not let me down. I remembered the 4-song EP "Out Of The Black" at BestBuy, but I don't buy introductory EPs until I hear more and/or if the EP has an exclusive track. I saw this record came out this week, and the cover grabbed my attention, just something about it, the name, the songs. the fact that it's on Warners (I do tend to buy untested acts signed to WB cuz they have cool taste in signings)...plus the price...if you bought the EP, you get 2 bucks off the price of the album...that it was on sale for $7.99...it got knocked down to $5.99...PLUS the EP had an exclusive song with "Hole", so I bought both.

Very glad I did.

Looked inside the booklet and saw the pic of RB and saw it was just 2 guys on bass and drums...I'm like, there has to be a mistake...where's a third guy/girl, any guitarplayer??!!??!! Because the sound surly sounded like it had guitar in it...just read the bio...NOPE...drums yes, by Ben Thatcher, but yes, just BASS and pedals by Mike Kerr (any relation to Jim Kerr from Simple Minds??)...almost like the polar opposite of guitar/drums duos Local H, White Stripes and Black Keys, and it sounds full, like a 5-piece band!! Plus, the songs are catchy and rocking...with, like, a Marc Bolan/T.Rex feel, combined with that minimalist Jack White/White Stripes approach.

Sometimes, simple is better...look at the Ramones...like da bruddas from Forest Hills, Queens, these songs are DECEPTIVELY simple, with loads of detail lurking underneath that emerge slowly with repeated plays...

absolutely fantastic, an Amazing band that breathes new life into rock music with catchy/crunchy grooves and rhythms. This two piece has been out rocking hard hitting the festival circuits and after hearing their EP It's great to finally get a full album. So far I haven't heard one song I didn't like on this album and I'm glad these guys are finally getting the recognition they deserve. It's hard to find a band that is heavy and catchy and while their sound is reminiscent of some other artists it sounds new and fresh and I can't speak enough to how good the musicianship and overall recording quality is on this record. Def. a good purchase for any fan of rock music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Good-Looking Guys...Two Hard Rocking Guys September 8, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Two extraordinarily talented rockers who are easy to look at - a rarity in the rock world. They're definitely going to have their hands full with the female fans. What a dilemma, aye.

The Royal Blood debut is impressive. The band consists of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher who have the skill to produce a full and rich sound, great riffs, melodies and writing. No gimmicks, posturing or trying - just simple straight forward music - seemingly executed effortlessly. Refreshing in a music industry where 'look at me' tactics distract from talent. They quietly entered the Billboard top 200 at 30. The sky's the limit for these two.

A few listens and I'm an avid fan - lock, stock and barrel. I'm already waiting for their next album.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you love The Black Keys or The White Stripes September 12, 2014

I'll keep this short. If you love The Black Keys or The White Stripes, then you'll love these guys. Powerful, memorable bluesy guitar riffs and hooks not to mention superb drumming. And all this from two guys??!! Seems like they have the power of a full band behind them! In any case, just pick up their debut. Looking forward to hearing more from them!

5.0 out of 5 stars ROCK 2.0!!! September 10, 2014
By Riles
Format:MP3 Music
I can't get enough of this album right now. The sounds that's produced from just two guys is nuts. Awesome mix of Queens of the Stone Age meets The White Stripes, with a sprinkle of Arctic Monkeys. Great record. Can't wait to see these guys on tour this fall.

I first read about Royal Blood about twenty minutes before purchasing this album. My initial thought was, A band with only a drummer and a bassist? How good could that be? Liquid Liquid tried to make it with a drummer, bassist, and marimba player, and they were a whole new level of awful. Mike Kerr's string work, though, coaxes far more out of four strings than another six could manage with an average guitarist on staff. It's hard to believe this is just a two-piece act with how thick and textured the music is, competing handily with the likes of The Black Keys and The White Stripes for pure garage tone, and with (in my honest opinion) far better percussion than either. This album is just a cut above, with lyrics reminiscent of the bizarre, violent pictures conjured by the words of Coheed & Cambria, mixed with execution that pairs fuzzy, vintage sound with a very modern stylistic approach. Fans of any of the aforementioned bands would likely enjoy this one, as well as those who enjoy Led Zeppelin.

This is a fantastic album. Royal Blood is a true two piece, a drummer and bass player (no guitar!). Together, they make this giant tsunami of sound that will knock you over. And it's not a matter of recording tricks. Check out their live performances on Youtube. It's all coming out of the two.

The bassist metes out bluesy rock riffs and engaging vocals.

The drummer is dynamic and reminiscent of some of the best rock drummers in history.

Together, Royal Blood is a crushing rock combo. Listen to "Out of the Black." If you're not hooked by the first minute of the song, you might as well go download a Barry Manilow album.
