Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Royal Blood is a mixture of anguished vocals, ferocious drumming and bass that provides intricate detail as well as a rumble of rhythm. The sound is a result of a lineage that stretches from present day heroes Queens of the Stone Age to the influential Led Zeppelin, and all the way back to early blues pioneers... yet this huge wall of sound emerges from just two members.

Review

Primal. Gigantic. Loud as cannons. Royal Blood are all of these things. - NME --nme

Sounds like The White Stripes ram-raiding Led Zeppelin s back catalogue. --Kerrang!

Chief flag-bearers for riff-based rock n roll. - Q --q

Like a cool fresh hybrid of low-end grunge a la early Nirvana or Soundgarden, Mudhoney or Melvins (but NOT, cough cough, the dreaded post grunge), the catchiness of early Marc Bolan/T.Rex and the minimalist approach of Jack White/White Stripes, and few other things thrown into the mix...this record is an ace discovery!! Granted, I just went by my hunches with this one, and I trust my instincts 100%...again, they've not let me down. I remembered the 4-song EP "Out Of The Black" at BestBuy, but I don't buy introductory EPs until I hear more and/or if the EP has an exclusive track. I saw this record came out this week, and the cover grabbed my attention, just something about it, the name, the songs. the fact that it's on Warners (I do tend to buy untested acts signed to WB cuz they have cool taste in signings)...plus the price...if you bought the EP, you get 2 bucks off the price of the album...that it was on sale for $7.99...it got knocked down to $5.99...PLUS the EP had an exclusive song with "Hole", so I bought both.

Very glad I did.

Looked inside the booklet and saw the pic of RB and saw it was just 2 guys on bass and drums...I'm like, there has to be a mistake...where's a third guy/girl, any guitarplayer??!!??!! Because the sound surly sounded like it had guitar in it...just read the bio...NOPE...drums yes, by Ben Thatcher, but yes, just BASS and pedals by Mike Kerr (any relation to Jim Kerr from Simple Minds??)...almost like the polar opposite of guitar/drums duos Local H, White Stripes and Black Keys, and it sounds full, like a 5-piece band!! Plus, the songs are catchy and rocking...with, like, a Marc Bolan/T.Rex feel, combined with that minimalist Jack White/White Stripes approach.

Sometimes, simple is better...look at the Ramones...

This album is a rock masterpiece, and a must have for any alternative rock fan. It's loaded with catchy riffs and abstract lyrics, not to mention explosive drumming. It's hard to believe that this is a duo with only a bass guitar and a drum set. Needless to say, I'm very impressed with this group and they are helping bring rock back to its glory days!

New hard rock is SO hard to find lately so I was thrilled the first time I heard this band. This album is awesome! Stripped down, loud and catchy - I love it!

absolutely fantastic, an Amazing band that breathes new life into rock music with catchy/crunchy grooves and rhythms. This two piece has been out rocking hard hitting the festival circuits and after hearing their EP It's great to finally get a full album. So far I haven't heard one song I didn't like on this album and I'm glad these guys are finally getting the recognition they deserve. It's hard to find a band that is heavy and catchy and while their sound is reminiscent of some other artists it sounds new and fresh and I can't speak enough to how good the musicianship and overall recording quality is on this record. Def. a good purchase for any fan of rock music.

I'll keep this short. If you love The Black Keys or The White Stripes, then you'll love these guys. Powerful, memorable bluesy guitar riffs and hooks not to mention superb drumming. And all this from two guys??!! Seems like they have the power of a full band behind them! In any case, just pick up their debut. Looking forward to hearing more from them!

My brother sent me an Amazon e-gift card to buy this album. I love my brother! If you think that a band with only a bass and drums might get boring or monotonous, you would be wrong. I played this album for days straight. My only disappointment is that they only have this album so far. There are moments I kind of get a Jack White vibe from them (in a good way). It's a pretty heavy, grinding album and I don't find a weak spot in the whole thing - no songs that I skip when their number is up.

Very few debut albums are full of one great song after another. This album is everything that the Black Keys and the White Stripes wish they could have written. When I heard the first single 'Out of the Black' I had no idea it was just 2 guys. I listen to this album from front to back everyday. Figure It Out, Little Monster are sure to light the charts up. Really this whole collection is excellent. Royal Blood are going to be huge.

The whole album is awesome..Many future hits for the radio!!! I was disappointed that Hole did not come with it though. Oh well.. I have youtube for that one I guess.. But seriously for a only 2 person band, and a bass that sounds like Guitar and bass! AMAZING!!! These guys are going somewhere!!!
