This long awaited new Koko release was well worth the wait. It is classic Koko with a new twist her cover of Melissa Etheridge tune Bring Me Some Water was a little surprising but covered well.Fuel To Burn is a fun song that put you in the mood to ride all night long and ranks at the top of my list. I think my favorite song is Ernestine and song that was written by KOKO herself this song lets Ernestine know who the queen is for sure. Keep your Boody Out Of My Bed has that Koko sound by way of Chris Johnson's guitar work and that thumping bass from Kenny Hampton just makes me wanta smack somebody. Blues Hotel with guest BB King sounds like what it is two blues legends getting together and having a party and inviting the world . The Man Next Door with guest Keb Mo takes us right back to the root of the blues and Koko delivery on this song once again proves while she remains the Queen of the Blues.Be sure to listen for Keb Mo to cough up some blues noise of own. I Am A Old Woman built on A Young Womans Frame. This song just rocks the horn work is outstanding and really keeps it rocking from start to end Keep Your Mouth Shut and Your Eyes Open is a lesson from the queen on how to keep your man in line. The worst part of the CD is that it only has 12 songs and it is so good that it leaves you wanting more. KoKo please don't wait so long to give us more great music.

Koko Taylor's first studio album in seven years, "Royal Blue" is mostly an up-tempo set with guest appearances by men like Johnny Johnson, B.B. King, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Shepherd who contributes some scorching guitar on the Melissa Ethridge-penned hit single "Bring Me Some Water", and Kevin Moore (okay, Keb' Mo') plays gritty Delta slide guitar on a great acoustic "The Man Next Door", one of four originals penned by Taylor herself.

The overall quality of this material is very high, the production is excellent, and so is the band. Fans will not want to miss this one.

ROYAL BLUE matches the Queen of the Blues with the best in bluesdom. B.B. King joins the Queen in a rollicking version of "Blues Hotel." Guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd adds blazing blues-rock to "Bring Me Some Water," and the original "Jonnie B. Goode," Johnnie Johnson, bangs barrelhouse piano throughout. The mix is clean and the cool package shows Alligator's committment to this disc -- the royal treatment.

Koko Taylor showed her real rough side in the song Ernestine.She attracts new generations of my kind.Koko has a way of singing the blues on this album.I reccomend this be a nice gift for someone.This is a good Blues album.

I really enjoy this album and Im not a member of the Blues industry or a mutual appreciation society, but I am a guy who loves this disc because it's damn good. Just listen to the sound clips above and if you like what you hear then you certainly wont be disappointed with the rest of the CD. I rate music based on how much I enjoy it and this is a 5 star disc.

2000's "Royal Blue" is Koko Taylor's first Alligator album in seven years. It is a tough and very well-arranged collection of blues and R&B, and the overall quality of the material is very high...there really isn't a bad song to be found.

The band is excellent as well, and Koko Taylor's rough voice has lost little or none of its power. Keb' Mo' plays gritty slide guitar on Taylor's self-penned acoustic "The Man Next Door", and Elmore James' piano player, the late, great Johnnie Johnson who died just a few week ago as I write this, rolls the ivories on the slow grind of "But On The Other Hand" and the swaggering album highlight "Ernestine", which also features some really great harmonica playing courtesy of Matthew Skoller.

And there are plenty of other memorable songs, like the bump and grind of "Bring Me Some Water" and "Don't Let Me Catch You", and the powerful opener "Save Your Breath", all of them performed with power and conviction.
This is one of those records which get better with each subsequent listen. Fans of Koko Taylor will not want to miss it, and casual listeners should find a lot to like as well. "Royal Blue" is a great comeback for the Queen of the blues, or perhaps a great continuance. It will look right at home in any collection of genuine Chicago blues.

Big Koko fan here and this is a great CD for fans of her music. Its not as strong as some of her other albums but she always sets the bar high.

Choice of songs superbly showcases Koko Taylor's incredible vocal range & she pours emotional power into every note. Her back-up musicians are first-rate & serve to enhance her wonderful talents. This is our first Koko Taylor CD, & we were extremely impressed! We intend to build a collection of her music - what a super lady!
