The new style smells terrible and the pieces are bigger....cat doesn't care for it.

Renal diets are supposedly bland and getting your sick friend to keep his or her weight up while suffering from CRF can be challenging.
K Dodds
All three cats love the taste and gobble it up as soon as I can get it on their plates.

My 16 year old cat has early stages renal disease and I opted to cook for him since he refuses to eat the old k/d brand which is like wet sawdust. He also has thyroid problems so appetite is high but he looks insulted if offered that stuff which he finds revolting. I hoped for an alternative. Our vet just gave a couple of cans to try and to my shock he loved it and even purred and seemed in high spirits after as he is after any great satisfying meal. I am thrilled. Texture is very creamy, moist and easy to stir/fluff. There are no pieces so the '10 review may have helped fix lumps. The smell is like any natural premium food without fillers - more gamey and stronger, bit like cooked liver. It does not bother me because I see that the little convalescing carnivore is satisfied with a real meal. He thinks he scored something special and I get another option for his rotation.

I used to get the Royal Canin Renal LP Feline Pouch style food, my cat at age 17 with kidney disease liked it. Now, they have changed the formula and processing and put it in a can.....My cat doesn't care for it. Anyone that has an older feline knows that they get picky and with kidney disease there aren't many choices out there and now the one choice my cat would eat is gone. The new style smells terrible and the pieces are bigger....cat doesn't care for it. I've tried to ease her into it, but she likes the pouch/old style.....I contacted Royal Canin and they had no sympathy or suggestions. They really didn't seem to care that their food palatability/quality has declined. I was very disappointed with that attitude and hope I can find something my cat will eat.

I have three aging cats who all have kidney issues. My vet suggested Renal LP and I was happy to see that Amazon offered it. One of my cats had chronic urinary tract infections (UTI) nearly every month. Since she has been on Renal LP it has been about seven months before she had a UTI. All three cats love the taste and gobble it up as soon as I can get it on their plates. It is a little bit cheaper through Amazon than PetSmart, but I wish Amazon would offer it through Subscribe and Save so that I can schedule it to come once a month. I recommend this product for cats with kidney issues, but would advise that you check with your vet first before starting your cat on this diet.

Our cat was diagnosed with kidney problems and the vet gave us some of Royal Canin modified to try. Our cat liked it and it done wonders for her. The price on Amazon is highly inflated. We purchase it from our vet for $ 34.02/case of 24-6oz cans---at least that was the price as of 2/01/13.

We have two cats diagnosed with high creatinine. They are fussy and we tried five different renal foods. This one is the one they like. Our vet reports that most of her patients prefer it as well.

Our 8 yr old cat developed both kidney and bowel issues pretty young. She's a rescue so it's hard to know what her history is. Our vet suggested we start her on a special renal diet and we tried a few different brands that she hated and refused to eat before we found Royal Canin. She loves it! She eats better now than she ever did. The food had really helped her in multiple ways, so the food itself is easily 4-5 stars. However, the price they want for it here on Amazon is through the roof. I can get the same amount of food directly from my vet and many other online stores for half the price. I'm not sure why the price here is double what it is at other locations. So I highly recommend the food...but I also suggest you buy it elsewhere!

The small cans have gravy and bits . This does not.

But my cat has warmed up to this too.

Between this and SubQ fluids every other day he is doing very good receiving an excellent rating from the vet a few days ago during a followup exam
