Product Description

Royal Canin German Shepherd 24 dog food is for German Shepherds over 15 months old. The German Shepherd has a notably fragile digestive system. Unique protein sources, like soy, and soluble and insoluble fibers promote optimal digestion. The alkaline skin of the German Shepherd predisposes them to ‘hotspots’. A synergistic complex of vitamins and amino acids are included in this formula to support the skin barrier. Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) are included to help build natural defenses, along with vitamins E & C, lutein and taurine to help reinforce the German Shepherd’s immune system. Supplemental glucosamine and chondroitin help support healthy joints and reduce inflammation in the aging dog.

So I walk in the door with this new bag of food. Arnold looks at me and telepathically says, "Damnit, a new bag of food. Can't you just stick with the purple bag I like?"

I say, "Arnold, see this? This bag was made for German shepherds like you. Surely this must be better."

Arnold crop dusts me with a fart and walks away.

Later when he is hungry, I open the bag and give him his serving (4 cups twice a day for this massive fatty dog). Arnold gives it a whiff. "Hrmm, smells good. I don't trust it."

He nibbles, and then takes a mouthful, and then the hoover vacuum in his stomach switches on and literally 3 seconds later it's all gone.

I think he likes it. The End.

I am blind and have a 7 1/2 year old German Shepherd female for a guide. She has had skin allergies since I got her at age 18 months and has been on a number of high quality brands of dog food including IAMS chunk for large breeds which she digested well but scratched constantly, Wysong which gave her the slimiest and stinkiest bowel movements of all brands and she still scratched, Science Diet, just like IAMS and Diamond Naturals which she scratched less than IAMS and Science Diet but had kind of slimy poop. I am half way through the second bag of this Royal Canin shepherd blend and she has stopped scratching except on rare occasions. She is brushed every day and I try to keep her extra clean since she goes out in public, even to church and to my weekly VA hospital appointments. I like the size of the kibble and the star shape that makes her actually chew the food before swallowing, I do believe it helps her digestion. Her bowel movements are firm and no more stinky than other brands, let's face it, dog poop just stinks. My vet really likes this brand and recommended it when I was trying out different brands. I always try out at least two bags before I give up on a brand but this Royal Canin has made an obvious and positive impression very quickly. My guide thinks she is still a pup and has more energy than the same aged neighbor dogs, she can grind down an Ultra Jumbo elk bone from Michigan Antlers in about six weeks so she definitely is plenty strong. She can also drag me down the sidewalk to meet her most prized possession - my nine year old son - when he comes home from school I'm 220 and she's 70. She would make a good sled dog or half of a team of small oxen. I feed her two level cups twice a day, morning and night and while she is always hungry (like most dogs) she keeps trim and fit and has plenty of endurance. She is also one very happy doggy.

When we got our German Shepherd his parents were being fed this food and he was getting the puppy version of it. After doing a little research I've found that this is a good quality dog food. And it's specifically engineered for German Shepherds which have notoriously sensitive stomachs. I've tried other foods and with this one my dogs coat looks a lot healthier and he has more energy. It also lasts longer than a #40 bag of the cheap dog food since he doesn't have to eat as much to get full. I used to get this food at Petsmart but I have to drive 40 min either east or west from where I live to get to a Petsmart so I found it to be incredibly convenient to be able to order on Amazon. I still buy it at Petsmart but I don't have to make special trip just for dog food anymore. And with Amazon Prime I can get it shipped for free and it only cost about $3 more than at Petsmart but it cost more than that in gas to drive there. I've bought this here several times and will continue to buy it here since it's so convenient.

I've been through the research and unending label-checking to find a dog food that I was content feeding them, only to find out that my picky eater would turn her nose up at the food. The other couldn't care less and literally inhales his food. I went through all the varieties of Nutro, which is a well-balanced food with plenty of whole-meat proteins and whole grains, but all she would eat was enough to stave off hunger. When I finally decided that I could drop another $10 per bag, I tried Royal Canin and both of my dogs love it. The ingredients are high quality, the dogs eat it enthusiastically and the size of the kibble is large enough that my "Inhaler" chews his food thoroughly before he tries swallowing. It's expensive, but the bag lasts us two weeks with two big dogs eating 5 cups per day. So, about $30 per week, $4 a day or $2 per dog per day. I'm okay with that.

This is great dog food for a German Shepherd. Our poor German Shepherd has the worst luck with dog food and diarrhea. We tried everything until we found this and now she is great. Put on weight, full of energy and great coat of fur.

I have been using Royal Canin for 8+ years. I specifically use the German Shepherd version from Royal Canin. The food is made in large star Chunks so my dog won't woof it down as Shepherds are susceptible to bloat. My Girl never has the runs and her stools are not huge masses (smaller fecal matter means less fillers). Her coat is healthy and she gets A+++ at the vet every time she gets checked. It is a little expensive but worth it. I believe it is a good investment in my dogs health. Sincerely, Gretchen's Mom
