I recently bought this to replace a Bissell Pro Heat 2X. I think my Bissel might have been a lemon, but I was unhappy ehough with it that I changed brands. I really like my new Royal. Very smooth, gets the carpet dryer than the Bissell did. I like the options for turning the soap and/or brushes off. My Royal's first job was a soapless clean to remove the chemical dumped in my living room by my Bissell. Talked to a vacuum sales rep after I bought it, he also says this is a fabulous machine, low failure rate. Fairly easy to clean- I do wish it had a place to keep the caps so I can let the tanks dry in the closet. I liked all the extra hand tools (one a rotating brush) on the Bissell, but overall this is a far better machine.

First, order a bottle of Royal carpet shampoo. The shampooer, (extractor), doesn't come with shampoo and the warranty voids any repairs/problems if you use a different manufacturer's shampoo. It has something to do with the amount of suds running through the unit. Apparently other shampoos can cause clogging. Anyway... I recently bought a small motel and used the Royal Carpet Extractor with just hot water while I was waiting for the shampoo to arrive. Wow, glad I did. It was amazing how much dirt I got out with the water alone ,but again, these are motel carpets walked over by lots of fishermen and not your average home carpet. When the shampoo arrived I was able to get out the remaining stains and what a difference. Now I go over the carpet first with hot water and follow with shampoo. It saves a lot of shampoo. Another thing I like is the automatic shampoo feeder. Just pour the shampoo into the reservoir, no measuring, add hot water in the tank and it's ready. Much better and easier to use than my Bissell.

I also got this Royal to replace my Bissel Pro Heat 2X. The Bissel died after only 8 uses. The Royal was able to pull out all the shampoo and dirt left by the Bissel in the first run. There was so much left in my carpet including all the soap the Bissel didn't pick back up that it was almost mud. I am so much happier with the Royal, especially the 3 year warranty!! The only down side I have found so far it is seems to be heavy and harder to push. However, I would gladly push a little harder to have the great clean carpets!!

I was so impressed by this machine. It's so easy to use. It is a bit heavy. I couldn't figure out why my arm was sore the day after I spent all day cleaning carpets, but I used it for about 8 hours the first day. From now on, I'll only do one or two rooms a day instead of trying to finish the entire house at one time. I have three dogs who go outside a lot and like to bring a lot of that outside in with them. My carpets were a mess and I didn't hold out much hope. I'd been spot cleaning for a while. But the Royal cleaned everything and the carpet was not a soggy mess afterwards. My hubby said they looked like new (I wouldn't go that far)! I am really, really happy with the ease of use and performance. I couldn't be more pleased. I've been through 2 or 3 Hoovers and a Bissel and knew I didn't want to waste money on another one.

We were very dubious re: purchasing a carpet shampooer. Most reviews (Hoover, Bissell, others) were negative. I had the opportunity to try out the home version of this machine in a local vacuum shop and was impressed. Our ShopVac Steam Team bit the dust, so we took a flyer on this machine. As the cleaning solution has not yet arrived, we tried it out on our living room carpet (which was professionaly cleaned last December) with warm water only. I should mention the living room is off-limits except for holiday entertaining; that's only Christmas and Easter use since last cleaned. The amount of residual soap and dirt this machine removed was astounding. I realize the "looks like new" expression is overused, but it is applicable here. As others mentioned, the ability to operate the machine with brushes and/or soap off,and the dual extraction ports is a big plus. My only criticism is that the upholstery tool has no powered brush - albeit I'm yet to try it. I hope the motor and plastic construction hold out over the years. For us, 1.5 professional cleanings will pay for this machine. Well worth $299.

I was expecting a little better cleaning based on reviews I had read on this model. It does a satisfactory job, but think the carpet could be a bit cleaner, however, this model does a great job of extracting the liquid from the carpet. I'll read the manual again to see if it has some tips, or maybe another cleaning solution might be better, but ordered the solution that went with this unit. Overall, I'm satisfied especially with the price of the unit.

I purchased this cleaner to replace the Hoover Platinum, which was a $500.00 waste of money, on the recommendation of the repair man at the local sewing and vacuum store. I loved it at first, it is so basic so I thought nothing would break. Well, on my 4th cleaning the motor fried, smoking and leaking some gooey fluid onto my carpet. I took it back and they gave me another one. They tell me this was an unusual occurrence. Today the brushes quit spinning. I will take it in again to see if it can be fixed but it seems to me at this price and as basic and solid feeling as it is, it really shouldn't have so many problems. I have had the Hoover, Bissell and now this Royal cleaner. Of them all I would say the Royal performs the best as far as suction, the Hoover for scrubbing, and the Bissell for...... nothing.
