The epitome of elegance, the Challinor pattern displays classic 19th-century motifs from Royal Doulton's early, and now archived, sketchbooks. The design is timeless but never plain as it uses rich cobalt hues on a translucent white background with shimmering 22-karat gold edging. The 10-inch dinner plate, 6-1/4-inch side plate, and 5-3/4-inch tea saucer feature a cobalt border decorated with an embossed fleur-de-lys print. The 8-inch salad/dessert plate and tea cup show a more involved white and gold fleur-de-lys border design with scrollwork and medallions on a thick cobalt border. All pieces bear gold edging imprinted with cobalt blue squares for added depth. The slight variation in styling creates a dazzling effect on a formal table when staple pieces and accent pieces are set together.
Challinor dinnerware is made of bone china--fine china that has had bone ash added to the clay to produce a true white color--which is considered the strongest and most prestigious type due to its eighteenth century English origins. This place setting is also made in the Langdale shape, a vintage dinnerware style with smooth, clean lines introduced by and used to describe many of Royal Doulton's china patterns. All pieces are safe for light warming (up to 100 degrees Celsius) in the oven and for the dishwasher at low temperatures to avoid harming the gold trim. I have about 9 of these place settings right now and plan on continuing to collect them. They are simply beautiful and of a very high quality. Each shipment I have recieved has arrived in great condition and as pretty as the last. The packaging is fantastic- there is no way they can get damaged in shipment. The only gripe I have is that is takes a very long time to get the items. Ive been waiting on a shipment for several weeks now and they still havn't shipped out. But in my opinion they are worth the wait!!! I always recieve compliments on what a beautiful set of china this is. I've been very happy with mine.
