This catalogue is indispensable for any collector of Royal Doulton character jugs. It gives you some idea of the value of the jugs for buying or selling in the current market. For the new collector it also gives you the history of the character jugs.

The book is an excellent guide to Royal Doulton toby jugs, including information on each jugs age, the variations you can get, who designed it etc and a current market price in UK pounds and US dollars which I found helpful. The pictures are clear and it is a catalogue well worth getting.

This book is an excellent, comprehensive reference book to Doulton jugs, and covers the huge number which have been produced in the last sixty or so years. Royal Doulton have slowed down on their output of late and this two year update includes just 26 new jugs as compared with the previous edition. This book is invaluable to any serious collector as a reference work. My main criticism would be that although already not cheap, I am sure we would all be willing to pay a few more pounds if the pictures were all in colour - is colour printing that expensive?

However, do take the price guide with a pinch of salt. Charlton do have an unenviable task in collating information from many different sources - auctions, internet, dealers etc. and take an informed view as to what the current market value of any particular jug is. However, that is not to say this is the 'right' price and you will find that a bit of patience and a lot of searching around will mean you can normally buy much more keenly.

I am pleased with the product I ordered and received. It's just what I wanted.
