Editorial Reviews

Product Description

People have dubbed them "motown inspired garage" or even "rock n soul," but fear not - this isn t your blatant 60 s revivalism or festival friendly gimmick rock. Royal Headache are a punk band! A very good punk band, with an actual singer and the ability to write timeless pop songs. In an era where we re bombarded by one dimensional summertime pop, ironic or "clever" made up electrocross-genres and disenfranchised too-hip-for-the-audience wayfarer rock, a band that communicates real human emotion like Royal Headache do is essential. A full length LP, recorded by Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring.

Review

"Like very few bands before them (Exploding Hearts and The Marked Men come to mind), Royal Headache effortlessly breathes life back into the desiccated husk of pop-punk." --Doug Mosurock - Dusted

"For once, I m at a loss for words, so forgive any lapse in eloquence that may occur, but I m truly speechless. Royal Headache was the best band I saw last year and one of the best bands I ve ever seen in my short, hideous life. " --Brace Belden - Maximum Rock N Roll

"lo-fi bedroom production that recalls the fuzz and stomp of the Buzzcocks" --Pitchfork

Music reviews only exist to help avoid despair, anger and the burning your money without any invitation to see it happen; anything else is a scam to throw money in the pit. Keeping that in mind Royal Headache is a great pop punk band that makes you want to mosh in a pit, even if it's just you. This debut if worth any amount of money to rub in the faces and guts of all those who believe punk is dead and rock 'n' roll is an urban legend to bring them to the path of enlightenment and dance right out of their modern dread and despair. Playing these tracks right after a barrage of mediocre drool gives a kick-start of contagious energy and emotions that transform into kinetic pogo bounce and screaming the lyrics all the way though. Not going to bother with a track-by-track review when i'm too uneducated to describe with words how each one is, they're punk and that's the best i could tell you to convince the cool kids to accept this. You won't be disappointed with these Australian, let me get my regional lingo reference, "blokes". Get this and complain to me if you hate it; we can have an interesting discussion about opinions if you're into that sort of thing.

A great record by some soulful punks from Oz. Imagine Sam Cooke or Van Morrison fronting the Clash... These guys are really good and this may be my favorite record this year.

This is one of the most genuine albums I've heard in decades and it captures the true spirit of rock n' roll as well as any ever created. Honestly, I didn't know music like this was still being made. Aggressive, melodic, sincere, energetic, simple in production and perfect in execution...in my opinion, a masterpiece from out of the blue.

these Aussie kids seem to have recorded these ditties in one of their parents garage with no production values whatsoever, and all i can say is they 'KNOW THEIR PRODUCT' (60's mersey beat through late 70's powerpop/punk. i love that most clock in at plus/minus 1:30, short and sweet.
