The first counterfeit product I ever got from Amazon...

(If you click the larger image of the golden paper package, you can see that this product is labeled "Product of Korea" and "'''''''" (upper middle black characters) which is Chinese for "product of Republic of Korea" (South Korea). It also says "Manufactured in Korea" on the side of the package. The Nutrition Facts table is in English and Korean, anywhere else you can find only English and Chinese.)

4 layers of packaging:

Almost immediately after I received the product, I knew it was a knock off made in China. It's just the instinct. The plastic cover wrap is very Chinese and the golden paper package is also very Chinese if you see the reverse side of it (the inside); it has that particular grayish color that you find on a lot of packages in China.

Then there's the aluminum-plastic wrap inside the paper box and 100 individually wrapped packets of ginseng tea inside the aluminum-plastic wrap. There are only Chinese and English texts on those two layers.

Importer & Manufacturer:

On the golden paper package it says the importer is "herba natural products inc. brooklyn ny 11232". The company has a one page website that only says it sells green tea. Sure you can find the number of this company but I didn't even bother calling because 1. it was last night when I opened the box from Amazon. 2. they would just lie to you or pretend not understanding what you are talking about I guess.

I then searched for "'''''" on Google Images, which is the Chinese name of the product (printed right above "Deluxe Instant" on the golden package). On the 2nd page of Google Images you can find a picture that looks almost identical to the product. it leads you to some info about the manufacturer "'''''" which is in Haining city, in Zhejiang province in China.

What I did next was obviously searching for this company, getting its number, and using Skype to call China where it was morning.

Anyway the end of the story is I confirmed that they manufactured the product using ginseng from northeast China (where all raw Chinese ginseng is from).

What you should know is that this product is mislabeled as made in Korea. Although Korean ginseng and Chinese ginseng are almost identical botanically (Northeast China/Manchuria and Korean peninsula are next to each other), I wouldn't suggest that you purchase this particular product because for non-pharmaceutical imports of herbal products I don't know how the government checks the quality if they do that at all. Plus, no matter where it's made, Korea, China, or America, it should never be mislabeled.

Happy with quality, delivery and taste. I am an acupuncturist/herbologist; my patients prescribed to drink this tea have had good results.

Some reviews complained about the bitter taste--note that this is unsweetened product, just straight ginseng. The natural taste of ginseng is bitter and has a unique smell. It is an acquired taste, not everybody likes it. Keep in mind this is medicine, not a gourmet beverage ;)

This product was not made by the same company that was advertised and is bitter and not at all what I expected. The company also has failed to reply to my e-mail.
