I have had my shredder over a month and I am very pleased. I use to have an 11 page rated shredder that could only shred 8 pages and still sometimes jam. I would shred until the shredder jammed and then empty the bin. One feature I like that someone else might not like is when the shredder gets full it has like an overflow and shredded page droppings comes out the front. It doesn't make a big mess but it reminds you to empty the bin before it jams. With my old shredder I use to shred paper until the unit jams and this feature will remind you as to when to empty the basket. I have shred credit cards and CD-Rs without jamming and the micro cut makes everything unreadable. I don't recommend this but I have shredded more than 5 pages at a time, more than the recommended pages to shred at one time, and it shredded eight papers at one time and didn't jam. So far I'm completely satisfied with my MC50MX Shredder.

I've been saving up things to shred for months. I had some particularly sensitive investment papers I was almost ready to burn, but some of the materials were on photographic paper and do not burn well. In one day, taking my time, I got rid of everything using this shredder. The best part is that the output is totally unreadable, it looks more like cat litter than paper. Credit Cards come out the same, CD's come out in big chunks, unreadable by a computer but the label could be put back together again. I put the pieces back through the paper slot and they are disintegrated. I used to worry about my strip shredder and I would mix the strips up, put them in separate garbage bags, spray them with a bleach solution, etc. It's a fact that strips can be easily reassembled by hand or by using a computer.
It 'timed out' on me one time, but I was putting wads of sheets in at a time and running it continuously. After a few minutes it was OK, from then on I would feed 2 or 3 sheets at a time and it worked for extended periods of time. I was waiting for a decent price on a shredder like this, one that the first 50 reviewers didn't return the first day they owned it after it burned up. This is it.

had this shredder for over a month now,
Positive -- great micro cut -- quiet opeation -- reasonably priced -- bin opens in the front, very convinient to empty Will not comment on the shredding capacity as I have learned from the previous shredders to never put more than a few in at the time. Overall, very happy with the product, hoping it will last for a while

After nine years my old Royal shredder died and I decided to try first an Aurora, then a Fellowes. I returned both, and went back to Royal. This shredder is the best! Relatively quiet, and really SHREDS.

works well, certainly shreads into micro pieces. It will jam if you try to shread too many sheets but that is fine- because that is expected, it advertises "5 sheets". Terrific for the price! I especially like the large capacity bin and micro shredding.

Finding a small, relatively inexpensive micro-cut shredder is difficult. After much searching, both online and around town, I chose the MC50MX by Royal. As of Feb 2011, Fellowes (one of the more common shredders you'll find) has supply chain issues and I did not want to risk not having spare parts down the road. The president of the company has a blurb on this on the the Fellowes shredder page.
The shredder worked like a charm on a credit card and a few pieces of junk mail, but burnt out only after a week of use. I read the instructions and left the shredder unplugged, but I guess it was not mean to be. Tech support is not great and the warranty process is best described as death by a thousand paper cuts. To add insult to injury, the shredder comes with four caster wheels (a brilliant idea), but they did not fit at all. Two points worth considering: 1. Returns - you must write Royal a letter - no emails or phone calls - to their warranties division in order to initiate the warranty process. So far, I am told it will take at least two weeks to get my RMA paperwork. Initially, tech support gave me the number to a local repair shop, but the shop owner made it clear that they do not like Royal products and declined to repair my shredder. 2. Annoyances: You must keep the device unplugged when it is not in use or, according to the instructions, the device will cease to function properly.

Had this product for some time now, it shreds paper and CDs beautifully. Reliable and amazingly quiet. I could still hear my TV while using the paper shredder.

I don't do a lot of shredding, but I'm very happy with this product. My prior shredder died after a few years and this one is superior in every way. (though it's admittedly 2x the price of the old one)
It shreds the paper into tiny pieces about the size of confetti. It has special slots for CD's and Credit Cards. And it has wheels that lock, so moving it is easy, and keeping it in one spot is also easy. Emptying the contents of the tray takes 5 seconds. I can't say if this machine can withstand heavy use, but if you just use it to shred your personal documents, I think it's a good product and a good value.

I received this shredder about three weeks ago and have been using it almost daily. I LOVE it. Had a Royal crosscut shredder that lasted about 14 years until it died so I went with the same brand. This one is perfect. Since I always shred under the amount recommended per pass, I have had no jams. After the paper goes through, there is no way anyone can read what was shredded; the pieces are really tiny. I like the fact that the bin slides out. To date, I have not used the credit card or cd shredder slots. I have been lining the bin with a plastic grocery bag which makes it easy to empty. Just make sure the grocery bag has no holes and that the bag is pushed down into the basket and doesn't interfere with the blades above. There are wheels provided if it is placed on a hard floor. My unit is on carpeting so I did not attach the wheels. This was exactly what I was looking for. Extremely satisfied! UPDATE JAN. 2011: Have had this now for over a year and it's still performing well. Remember to oil the cutting blades periodically with shredder oil--not regular oil. Easiest way is to put some oil horizontally on a paper and run it through the machine. You don't need a lot of shredder oil, the cost is nominal for a bottle which will last a long time and keeps the shredder in good condition.

For home use, this shredder is the greatest! My old shredder died of a serious paper jam, so this is the new replacement. Love it! It is so quiet. No problem hearing the tv while you shred, shred, shred. The wheels make it convenient to move out from under the desk when you need it. No problem handling 5 sheets at a time, but not made for larger numbers. Definitely makes micro-cuts. Your papers will be pulverized into fine confetti--no way anyone could piece your important papers together. It is actually fun to use. The first day I was shredding everything in sight!
