A good personal shredder,

Got this shredder at Walmart for $25 in the clearance section and it does its job beautifully. Unlike old shredders that cuts a document into vertical strips it cuts the document/credit card into really tiny pieces - illegible to the would-be identify thief.
Noise is tolerable. My only beef with the unit is that it has a built in power shutdown routine that kicks in when the shredder is overloaded which according to the manual happens when you have been shredding continuously for a minute. It also occurs after a paper jam when you put in too much paper (more than 5 sheets). At that point, the machine stops responding and you would need to unplug the unit and wait 20 minutes for the auto shutdown to wear off. Good value for personal use but not for heavy duty shredding. It also comes with an "Identity Theft for Dummies" book and 4 check fraud prevention pens. |
