2.0 out of 5 stars A few tidbits, but..., November 29, 2005

This review is from: The Royal Navy 1939-45 (Elite) (Paperback)
I have found few, if any, decent analytical surveys of the Royal Navy in WWII, so I had some hope for this volume, despite my love/hate relationship with Osprey. The number of factual errors I came across in this volume, however, put a damper on any such enthusiasm. The continual reference to ships like the Bismarck and Scharnhorst as "pocket battleships", the misspellings of names, and the lack of "hard data" renders this book little more than a pamphlet of no particular value. It does have a few interesting photographs I've not run across, but other than that there is not much to recommend it. Would have loved to see a complete listing of all commissioned ships, service history, and eventual fate, which would have at least provided some saving grace.
