Max Gear is an ultra-tough, high performance synthetic gear oil designed to provide maximum protection to heavily loaded gears. Max Gear excels in axles containing open, limited-slip, locker, and spool equipped differentials. Max Gear is also recommended for use in truck and automotive front or rear differentials, manual transmissions and lower gear units of marine engines that specify use of an API GL-5 or GL-4 fluid. Max Gear is non-corrosive to soft yellow metals (brass, bronze, copper) and is safe for use in manual transmissions with Synchronizers.
The cushioning molecules in Max Gear absorb gear impact to prevent fatigue and minimize wear. Max Gear also significantly reduces friction, which lowers gearbox temperatures, extends equipment life and improves fuel efficiency.
Max Gear outperforms ordinary gear oils by combining the highest quality synthetic oils with Royal Purple’s proprietary Synerlec additive technology. Max Gear makes gears run smoother, quieter, cooler and longer without overhauls. Max Gear is formulated with hypoid friction modifier additive necessary for use in clutch or cone type differentials.
IMPORTANT NOTES: No additional additives are necessary. Max Gear oils contain the friction modifier additive needed for limited-slip differentials. This product is NOT for use in wet-clutch systems, such as those commonly used in motorcycles and ATV transmissions and some marine drive units.

Royal Purple’s high film strength prevents contact between metal parts reducing friction and heat thereby transferring more power to the drive wheels while maximizing the lubricant service life. As well, Synerlec amplifies the already-exceptional oxidation resistance of the synthetic base oils.
Royal Purple remains on the metal surface long after ordinary lubricants would have been squeezed out by pressure and heat. It actually improves mating surfaces by responding to increased pressure with increased viscosity until the metal peaks (asperities) undergo deformation and flow into the low spots. Over time, the metal surface becomes extremely smooth and can even develop a mirror-like surface.
