3.0 out of 5 stars Great vacuum, except for the brushes
The brushes on the spinning roller are coming off (not just a few either) and I've only had it a month.

I quite like the vacuum for its handling, width, cleaning, etc.

Probably wouldn't buy another of this model.

Go for a Royal classic with the aluminum housing.

4.0 out of 5 stars I would give 5 stars if it was a different color & had manual brush adjustment., August 2, 2005
This review is from: Royal RY7300 Protégé Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
Initially, I was not familiar with the Royal brand of vacuum cleaners. I did a little research and found that Royal is a high-end brand name. Upon receipt of the box I opened the package to find 3 simple pieces. The main unit (motor, bag area, etc,) a hose and [finally] the handle.

The assembly took less than 5 minutes and was completed using 3 screws to secure the handle unit to the main unit.

The bottom of the motor unit is all metal and quite sturdy. The handle is metal sturdy and secure feeling as well.

Turning on the unit you immediately feel the strong suction from the rather quiet motor. Once you release the head to start vacuum you feel a firm (but controllable) movement forward as the brush goes to work vibrating and brushing the carpet.

One immediate observation from when I started vacuuming was that I was 'hearing' a LOT of dirt and 'stuff' being sucked into the bag (far more than with my aging Eureka.)

The first thing I wanted to test was the auto-matic brush adjustment. I have never really liked auto brush/height adjustment because I pretty much always like mine set on low. The auto adjustment on the Dyson is what made be return it (promptly) because it was horrible. However, in the case of the Royal Protege' 7300 I was pleasantly surprised at the auto adjustment from thick carpet to wood back to thick carpet.

Overall, at $99 for a $500 vacuum this is an awesome deal on an excellent vacuum. I would have paid more for this unit but not $500. If you're looking for a great vacuum deal you can't beat this one (unless it's free.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sweeper!, January 30, 2006
This review is from: Royal RY7300 Protégé Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I received this sweeper and used it immediately. It was easy to put together and was excellent for cleaning animal hair. The belt did come off the first time I used the vaccuum when it grabbed my telephone cord, but I was aware from reading the reviews on Amazon.com that this is a problem with this sweeper. It only took me about 10 minutes to put the belt back on, and I have been more careful and the belt hasn't jumped off since. I would not pay $500 for this sweeper, but I got a terrific deal for a great sweeper at $99!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, January 5, 2006
This review is from: Royal RY7300 Protégé Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
This is probably the best vacuum I have ever used. I'm 35 years old, and I grew up with Hoovers, Eurekas, and Bissells. Any model put out by those manufacturers are toys compared to this thing.

I can honestly say that I never knew what a real vacuum was until this machine arrived at my door.

The suction is so powerful, that it almost lifts the carpet a good 2 inches off the ground. You can feel the pull. It's truly amazing.

I wish I knew about this high end vacuum cleaner company a long time ago. They are worth every penny.

And to get this machine at 99.99? Well, needless to say, it's beyond worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best vacuum in years, January 28, 2006
This review is from: Royal RY7300 Protégé Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
In the past my husband and I have always bought name brand vacuums, by doing so you expect more than what you get. We have had vacuums from 150.00 to 250.00, and they either wont't pick up the cat and dog hair, to belts breaking on a weekly basis

When we got the Royal we were very surprised due to the price being reasonable and the quality of the product. My husband even said for this price, we could afford to buy one each year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well made machine., August 22, 2005

I have only used the Royal RY7300 Protege about 4 times. It works really well, quite strong and does a great job. One small down side, it sounds like a truck but for the price and the way it works it's worth a bit of noice. I highly recommend it. Victor Agosto, VA. Beach, VA>

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good deal, August 22, 2005
This review is from: Royal RY7300 Protégé Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
The Royal Protege is a great buy for the quality of the vacuum it is. It is not worth its full retail price but the $99 we paid was an excellent steal. It is no Oreck but it is a very nice vacuum. I would recommend this item

4.0 out of 5 stars a good deal for the price, December 15, 2006
This review is from: Royal RY7300 Protégé Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I purchased this to replace a $69.00 Walmart Bissell vaccum. After reading the reviews I was a little cautious but don't regret my purchase. There have been no problems with the belt or bristles coming off or adjustment problems. It did suck up my dogs squeeky toy (from Walmart) in the beater bar and I had to quickly shut it off, but no damage to vaccum or toy were done that I could tell. The only problem was where to get the bags! I discovered it can use the dirt devil bags of the same type and I believe this vaccum is mfg by dirt devil? even though it is called a "Royal" Protege. I've used it a few months and it seems to be holding up well. I like the idiot light that tells me when the bag needs to be replaced. No problems with shipping or speed of delivery. It came right to my door, and I didn't have to go out to the post ofice after it!

I really like this vacuum. It does an excellent job of cleaning my carpets and it is really powerful.

I haven't had any problems with it at all by the grace of God and it it not too heavy when I lift it up the steps.
