Well, this was a pleasant surprise indeed..., January 10, 2011
I wasn't expecting much out of this book, to be quite honest, because the story line sounded cliche, the title a bit silly, and though we are all admonished to not judge a book by its cover, the man on it looked like a big dumb oaf :-)But I am putting together a listmania of good romances featuring doctor heroes, and I've been checking out all the novels I've found that looked even remotely promising; I had a few hours to kill and needed mindless fluff, so I thought, hey, maybe this book would be a dud, maybe not. I am so pleased that I took the chance! The writing and characterization were excellent--way above the the cut for typical Silhouette releases. I was so relieved to not have to put up with clunky dialog, mangled use of abbreviations, or incomprehensible slang. I loved the heroine, in particular, she really was believable and compelling. The reader does truly feel for her plight. And I liked how the characters were given time to truly fall in love first before tumbling in the sheets. The chemistry between them is very real--in more ways than one ;-) There was also an able ensemble of secondary characters to make the book interesting... I couldn't believe my eyes, actually, well-written secondary and tertiary romances in a Silhouette? Medicine also figures prominently into the book, which is a bonus for me.
My only contentions were the awkward description of the heroine when the hero first meets her--overly physical, felt like she was being objectified, and also the heroine's claim at the end of the book that she was bullied by mean girls, which is of course not at all believable--even if she were a miserable teenager (what teenager isn't?), certainly no one would dare to overtly bully a princess! As you can see, two very minor bones to pick. All in all, the writing was clean, the story fun, and the romance sweet. I hope to read more of this author in the future.

Royal Seduction by Donna Clayton, March 31, 2010
This review is from: Royal Seduction (Logan's Legacy) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I've read by Donna Clayton, and I am happy to report that I like her laid-back, easy flowing writing style. While at first I was a bit skeptical about the plot based on the back cover synopsis, by the end of the book, I too, could not resist the charming Doctor Riley Jacobs ... Recommend!
Description from the book back cover:
On her visit to Portland's popular Healthy Living Clinic, royal beauty Catherine Von Husden wanted oh-so-serious Dr. Riley Jacobs to notice her. But the good doctor was all business and didn't give her the attention she so craved. Nevertheless Princess Catherine loved a challenge, and helping Riley open up resulted in her discovering riches beyond her wildest dreams. Riley was handsome, strong in spirit and possessed all the qualities she'd ever wanted in a man. And when he returned her love, she was handed a royal dilemma. Would Catherine have to take up her duty to her country and leave behind the love of a lifetime??
