This review is from: Royal Sovereign AFS-850S Auto Stack Feed Shredder (Black/Grey) (Office Product)
this is by far the worst shreader or any other office equipment that I ever bought. Jams all the time, you spend 45 minutes getting a simple jam out. 3 pieces or more of paper will jam the motor... the feeder doesnt feed correctly and feeds arounf 6 pieces of paper at a time. Someone really needs to go back to the drawing board on this. I figured that you get what you pay for so I went above and beyond and paid extra for this sheader. I have had shreaders that were 19.99 work 100000 x better than this. RETURNED!

This review is from: Royal Sovereign AFS-850S Auto Stack Feed Shredder (Black/Grey) (Office Product)
This shredder was one of the worst purchases I have made. The auto feeder always jams (it tries to take too many pages and jams up). Overall, I would not recommend this product. I think a home cross cut shredder for $49 works better then this one. It has lasted about 3 weeks and after all the complaints on this item we are replacing it.

This review is from: Royal Sovereign AFS-850S Auto Stack Feed Shredder (Black/Grey) (Office Product)
We bought this (practically same model AFS-800BK) shredder to replace another, smaller unit.
The good - This shredder is quiet, the autofeed feature is desireable, and the paper is well shredded. The bad: Problems so far (week 1): 1. After 2 days of use (emptying the unit about 10 times) the switch to sense the presence of the internal waste basket needed modification to actually work. The basket could be fully installed but the switch would not be fully depressed. The unit displays a red "check basket" light and won't run in this condition, which is good but only if the switch works properly. Adding a small smooth piece of metal to the switch-activating backside of the little plastic lever solved the problem, but obviously the design should be better or the construction done to closer tolerances to avoid this kind of thing. Most users will not want to do this kind of fabrication. 2. The sheet feeder tends to catch sheets a bit more on the right than on the left and pull them unevenly. Far too often they stick and are not fed. One has to manually pull the sheet back out and straighten/fiddle a bit to get it to feed. This means that the automatic sheet feeder is only really automatic most of the time, but can't be left unattended and be trusted to work. The feeder also sometimes feeds too many sheets and then shuts down. This results in the group of sheets being bound together by the partially shredded end. One has to separate the sheets into smaller batches and sometimes feed them from the non-shredded side to get them to go. Again, not truly automatic. There is no way to tell how full the internal waste basket is, except to open the unit and look. But it does have the blinking red light that displays when it is completely full. And the unit won't run until the basket is cleared - a good thing. We will probably keep this unit because it is probably as good as the Fellowes unit at the same price and we like the *mostly* automatic feed feature.
