Fun New Teen Fiction,
By
This review is from: Royally Jacked (Romantic Comedies (eBook)) (Mass Market Paperback)
Valerie's life has never been better. She's got great grades in school, a very-potential boyfriend, she's semi-cool, and her friends are some of the best that a girl could ever wish for. But then things change. Valerie's mother not only announces that she's gay, but also that she's divorcing her father, and leaving him for her girlfriend, an organized vegetarian. Not only that, her father is leaving for a small European country, where he will be working for a royal family, and Valerie is forced with making a decision between living with her mother, or her father. But she doesn't realize that choosing to live with her father means that the Prince of a country might just turn out to be the perfect guy for her.As a fan of HOW NOT TO SPEND YOUR SENIOR YEAR by Cameron Dokey, I decided to give ROYALLY JACKED a try. I was NOT disappointed. Valerie is a fun character, who's situations and friends remind you greatly of those found in Meg Cabot's best-seller THE PRINCESS DIARIES. Her father is a fun character and is someone who all girls will gladly trade their fathers in for. A must-have book for all fans of THE PRINCESS DIARIES, or anyone who's a fan of teen fiction, and royalty. You won't be disappointed. Erika Sorocco

Cute and fun teen romance.,
This review is from: Royally Jacked (Romantic Comedies (eBook)) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fifteen-year-old Valerie's life is turned upside down when her mom decides to leave her dad for another woman. And because Valerie's dad worked for the very politically conservative President of the United States, he now has to find a new job in order to avoid a scandal. He gets a position as protocol chief to the royal family of Schwerinborg, a small European country. Rather than live with her mom and her girlfriend, Valerie decides to go to Schwerinborg with her dad. At first she thinks it's a terrible mistake -- until she meets Georg, the very cute prince of Schwerinborg. But could a prince ever really fall in love with Valerie?
Teens who love light romances are sure to enjoy this fun, fluffy tale. It is sure to appeal to fans of Meg Cabot's books, and I can't wait to read the upcoming sequel. It's not the most original story in the world, but it's still really enjoyable and cute.

I read a lot of teen and young adult novels, and I HAVE to say that Valerie Winslow is the first character ever I can A) Relate to and B) Respect. OK, she watches more MTV than is strictly healthy, but she watches Buffy and she's intelligent and sarcastic and believably flawed and cool in the sense that she doesnt give a fly from the beginning. This is really one of the better teen novels I've ever read. It's funny and pointed and doesnt ignore things like computers, which a surprising amount of authors shy away from. The problems and characters are believable, as are the solutions. Yay for Niki Burnham.

This book is a story about a girl named Valerie. Her life is turned in the direction of weird when her mom anouccnces that she wants a divorce because she has found a new love. With another woman!! With this scary detail in mind Valerie's dad has been called on business to a small unknow country in Europe to be a royal chef.
One good thing does happen to her though. When in the library trying to figure out her new school test she mets the Prince. Prince Greog. To find out more read Royally Jacked. And remember even if the begining is boring keep going cuz the book does get better and continues to do so. So enjoy:)

A cute love story,

Royally Jacked was a cute, fluffy story about a teenage girl, Valerie, who has to choose between staying with her gay mother or opting for a life in a foreign country after her parent's divorce. She chooses to leave her friends and crush behind to follow her father to his new job in Europe. At first she regrets her decision, but then she meets Prince Georg and things aren't as bad as they seem. It was a short, easy-read novel with a cliffhanger ending that kept me reading the entire time. The "gay parent" plot wasn't necessary in my opinion and didn't really fit in with the plot of the story. On the contrary, the slightly predictable love story was an enjoyable read. Otherwise, I think Niki Burnham put together an appealing novel the many teenage girls would enjoy.

When I started reading this book I thought it was a little slow. But after I'd read more, I really started to get into it. It fuses comedy, drama and romance all in one. The story begins with Valerie learning that her mother is gay and wants to move in with her girlfriend, Gabrielle. Soon after, her father tells her that she has two choices. 1. she can move to a small German speaking country called Schwerinborg (which, no seems to know how to pronounce, calling it Smorgasbord instead). Or 2. she can move in with her mom and her vegan girlfriend, Gabrielle. After much thought of how her friends and every one she knows would find out about her mom, she chooses to live with her dad. There, she learns the German word for exit is "ausfahrt", that the McChicken sandwiches here have a strange onion sauce on them, and that at the end of every fairy tale, not every prince falls for the princess.

We thought that this book was pretty good. It reminded us of the Princess Diaries series. We could relate to Royally Jacked better than other books because of the first-hand prospective of Valerie. We would recommend this book for children ages 13-16. Even though it wasn't perfect, it still rated high in our minds. If you like reading teen-girl books and are in for a good read, read Royally Jacked.

A fun, quick read,

When Valerie finds out that her mom is lesbian, she is devastated. How did this happen to her? Now she will have to choose who to live with, and there's the problem of what her friends will think once she tells them. So when Valerie's dad says he is moving to some tiny country that no one has heard of because of his new job (protocol chief for royal family), she decides to go with him because, let's face it, who wants to live with their lesbian mother and her girlfriend and transfer to a new school? Although Valerie is upset because she has to leave her friends and a potential boyfriend named David, she soon realizes that living in this new country could get pretty interesting, considering there is a young prince her age living in the palace (Valerie and her father have an apartment there since her father works for the royal family). The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is because it is somewhat predictable, but it is still worth your money to buy it.
