Pretty but has some issues...,

This review is from: Royce Lighting RSL5207/8-72 8-Light Outdoor Globe String-Light with Frosted Glass, Textured White (Tools & Home Improvement)
We just got 2 of these string lights and hung them yesterday. The frosted glass globes are pretty and look as pictured. BUT, a few problems:
1. One of the globes broke while we were unpacking them - this, even though I was being particularly careful because I had just broken a different type of string light globe the day before! The globe from this product broke when it lightly touched the surface of our porch (from only 1 or 2 inches off the porch - I was sitting on the porch floor, unpacking it right out of the box - so it wasn't as if I dropped it from a great height!). I was so disappointed. But we hung the string anyway, without the one globe, and I plan to buy a third string to use only for spare parts! 2. The second problem is the length... It's described as 14 feet in total length. But be aware that much of that length is just plain cord from the last globe to the plug. The lighted part of the string (length from the first to last globe) is only about 5.5 feet. So it takes several of these to cover much distance. 3. The online product description says that up to 4 of these strings can be attached together...but the paperwork that came with the product says a maximum of 3 should be attached together. 4. The product is described online as an "Outdoor Globe String-Light" with no limitations described regarding the outdoor usage. However, the paperwork that came with the product says that the string light should be used outdoors for a maximum of 90 days. Perhaps this is just included to limit liability and maybe it's standard for all "outdoor" lights...but, at minimum, this should be disclosed in the online product description. I might have chosen a different product had I known of this supposed limitation. 5. Finally, the lights themselves are fairly bright (which could be a good or bad thing, depending on the intended application). I had planned to get 4 strings total (but the vendor only had 2 in stock at the time I ordered)...but now I'm thinking that would be too much light anyway. We're using them for soft, ambient lighting on our front porch but when it's completely dark out, these lights really...well, light things up! If you're looking for softer, subtler lighting, you might want to go with smaller lights/less wattage. Having said all that, I still gave it 4 stars because the string light and globes do look very pretty! Just know what you're getting...

These lights are so flimsy several of them broke as I was trying to unpack them from the box. One of them arrived broken. I can't imagine how they would hold up outdoors; mine never even made it to the garden.

Okay - High price point, no benefits. I thought these would be much nicer than a cheap string from Target. They are nicer, but not better by any means. The Globes break really easily. Globes fill up with water when outside. Looks nice, but you can't take it up and down easily, you have to take off all the globes or they will break while you carry the string. No lie. You can't buy replacement globes... anywhere.
The Cord is flimsier than you would think as well. Light bulb covers (little top parts) fall off ALL the time with each breeze. The filling up with water is the biggest pain. My lights (two strings) are on my deck, outside, and the globes all fill with water when it rains. Every time. Gets nasty too. I think I am going to break it every time I take the globes off to empty them. Then CLEAN them as the water turned green. Way too much maintenance for a string of lights. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Period.

I just put the lights up tonight, so cannot speak for the durability. I was impressed with the brightness and the soft light they provided. However, be sure you understand the exact length. The lights are 9 inches apart so end to end the lighted portion is only 63" long. The extra length was great for the end where I plugged them in and when I needed to stretch around my chimney. But the extra length was inconvenient when I wanted to connect two strings together only 9 inches apart making a continuous string of lights. Overall, I am happy with the lights, they look great on our deck.
