4.0 out of 5 stars Royce's Powerboating Illustrated 6th edition
This is the 1994 6th edition with the first edition being 1960. I find the history of how things got to where they are today very enlightening and helpful. The book has the feel of an old and possibably outdated book, but that isn't true. You still tie a knot the same way today as you did on HMS Bounty.

This book covers trailer boating from A to Z including how it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Royce's Powerboating Illustrated
While entertaining, this is not a usefull book for leaning powerboating skills. It has some valuable information, but the contents are quite random and disorganized. Covers everything from basic concepts to maintenance and simple repairs. It is impossible to search for a specific topic. Much of the information is outdated or doesn't apply to modern boats. The...

This book covers trailer boating from A to Z including how it all happened. If you are looking for a manual of how to operate your new boat, I suggest the manafacturer. If you want a wealth of general knowledge I suggest this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book, October 10, 2002

This review is from: Royce's Powerboating Illustrated (Paperback)
This book is chock full of information and tips on matters relating to boating safety. It covers everything from how rope works to 2 cycle and 4 cycle engine operation to weather to electricity, and contains numerous anecdotes which can keep you from making the same mistakes as others. The book is also filled with Sergio Aragones-style illustrations in the margins. The author evidently spent his whole life creating it. This book is a casual, easy read, and belongs in the head or in the travel kit. An amazing book even if you, like me, are hardly a boater at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Marine Tech book!, September 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book because I read about it in a boating magazine article. Its is not expensive. I have learned so much about a myriad of boating issues, problems, boat design, electronics, weather, etc. Even if you don't own a boat you will find this book quite informative for so many other applications. It really explains how a lot of thing work. The illustrations aren't the best but are funny at times and made it enjoyable to read. I have since bought 2 more copies for friends and relatives. A great reference book for any boater or any do it yourself person!
