4.0 out of 5 stars NOT REMASTERED, October 17, 2006
This review is from: Rpm (Audio CD)
As a big RPM fan , I was excited to see that the first album was getting a re-issue from MTM. The bonus tracks are cool BUT the entire album has NOT been digitally remastered and in fact , has been transferred from vinyl - not to mention the umpteen spelling mistakes - and I usually like MTM's products!
Fortunately in September of 2006 , guitarist Mark Gendel DID 24-bit digitally remastering of the original master tapes which came out much better than the MTM version. Mark also included RPM's second album 'Phonogenic' and a whopping 16-page booklet including lyrics and liners. Therefore the RPM 2 cd set is the DEFINITIVE collection for all Melodic Rock / AOR / RPM fans and can be found through Retrospect Records and here at Amazon very shortly. Both RPM albums are classic slices of AOR and should an essential addition to your melodic rock collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lost Classic, September 26, 2006
This review is from: Rpm (Audio CD)
I've just about decided that along with Zoom Club, MTM Classix is the best label around when it comes to bringing forgotten hard rock gems back into the light. Case in point: the 1982 self-titled debut album by RPM.

There's no rock quite like early 1980's rock. Rock music from that era has a sound that just cannot be duplicated. RPM has an AOR/melodic rock sound that fans of bands like Survivor, April Wine, White Sister, Rail, and early Night Ranger will find both familiar and irresistible. The album is full of great melodic rock tracks, plus the obligatory ballad or two. The song Video Games is a bit too silly for its own good, but for the most part, these are great rock songs, a couple of which were later covered by artists like Blackfoot (A Legend Never Dies) and Tygers of Pan Tang (Rendezvous).

Fortunately MTM Classix was able to give the album a second chance more than two decades after its original release date. Not only did they give the album a digital remastering, they added a full 5 bonus tracks for good measure. The result is a revitalized album that should please fans of melodic rock in general and early 80's rock in particular.
