4.0 out of 5 stars Short book packs a mighty wallop!, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Rubal (Paperback)
This is a very short novella, but it packs a wallop! I expected to read an exciting Civil War adventure story, but author Richard Neal Huffman threw me a curve on page two: a story twist so unusual I was stunned for a heart-beat.

When Rubal Kincade is injured on a battlefield during the Civil War, what happens to him is almost unbelievable. In another author's hands,it would seem impossible, but the way Huffman writes (in such a natural way), I suspended my disbelief throughout the book. He lured me in and I never looked back.

At first Rubal is bewildered, uncomprehending what had really happened to him during that shocking battlefield experience. He survives the war and when he finally learns the secret is forced to change his life-style dramatically.

I can't tell you too much without ruining this intriguing plot, but a few questions might not hurt: When his wife disappears, what happens when he searches for her? Does he ever find her? Why can't he have a relationship with another woman? And what part does Rubal play in every war from the Civil War down through Desert Storm, and how is that possible?

In a surprise twist near the end, Rubal finds someone very important to his life and they share the same secret about what happened to him long ago on the Civil War battlefield. They form a team and offer their unique services to the President of the United States. His reaction is a story in itself. And wait until Rubal and partner man their private war against the terrorists.

The ending of this book will amuse and delight you.

The outstanding premise and the author's imagination deserve five stars, but due to some formatting and grammatical errors, I had to lower it a notch. Highly recommended.

I look forward to reading Richard Neal Huffman's full-length novel: Dreams in Blue: "The Real Police"

5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't want to put it down!!!, July 18, 2006
This review is from: Rubal (Paperback)
I just finished reading Rubal and I loved it! The very end brought out a huge laugh, which luckily I was reading in my car so no one thought I was crazy. I really enjoyed how the author walked me through all of the major events of our history and worked his characters into those events. Rubal is the guy that we should be rooting for in the movies and in our daily lives. I am happy to add this to my collection as "Dreams in Blue" was also very exciting. I can't wait to see what else comes out of this great and imaginative mind! Keep 'em coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Tried and tested.", June 19, 2006
This review is from: Rubal (Paperback)
Rubal, in its short story version, was read and evaluated by fellow writers. It received good reviews. Most readers demanded I expand this story, as I have. The five stars are from fellow writers that helped me workshop this piece.
In its pages you will find ACTION, ACTION, ACTION!! No fluff here.
Rubal starts off in the Civil War. While a fictional piece, it is based on fact. Rubal Kincade, a young Union soldier, soon finds war is hell. He learns of a secret that will forever change his life, as well as those around him.

Thank you for buying my book.
Also, check out Dreams In Blue: The Real Police - a non-fiction.
