To pick a favorite Black Keys album, for me, is a hard thing to do. All of their albums are great in their own respect. But this is probably the one i would recommend for the first time buyer. It starts out with the bluesy, droaning "When the lights go out", then ramps it up with one of their live staples, the high energy "10 am automatic". "Just couldn't tie me down", with it's head boppin', hand clapping rhythm, follows. "All hands against his own" is a nice tune with allot of spunk. "The desperate man",has a funky upbeat tempo to counter it's beat down lyrics (summer's here but still in fall, wonder what she done me for). One of my favorite Keys tunes, "Girl is on my mind",is next. "The Lengths", a nice ballad, mellows it down a bit, but only to have "Grown so ugly" bring it all back up to speed (baby this ain't me, baby this ain't me, grown so ugly). Then, the climax of the album, "Stack shot Billy" comes around turn three like a bat out of hell with it's murderous message and fuzz-wahh blend(45 pistol is Stack's right hand, sent him away to the promised land). "Act nice and gentle", a Kinks tune, follows (interestingly enough). "Aeroplane blues" is the rawest of the lot, the most to the core of the Keys sound. "Keep me" drops in like a meteor out of the heavens (keep me clean, keep me warm, keep my soul away from harm). "Till i get my way" closes the album quite nice, to the point the first instinct is to run out and buy the rest of the Black Keys catalog, which is what you should do! This is by far the best band around, don't miss the bus!

I got this for my boyfriend cause he digs The Black Keys and collects vinyl. The products arrived really quickly and well packaged, the sound is great, and it was a fair price. Overall a great purchase, and he loves it.

The Black Keys have defined a two-man "bump" blues that is infectious and well crafted. This vinyl release puts them in the mix with other musicians I respect - in an actual record collection.

Every song on this album is solid, with amazing blues/rock hooks. If you like Led Zeppelin or The Black Crowes, check this album out.

This sounds unreal on Vinyl... Black Keys was meant to be heard this way. I suggest anyone who owns a record player to do themselves the favor and purchase a Black Keys album on LP.Great!!

After Brothers, The Big Come Up (The Black Keys first album); Rubber Factory is a perfect addition to the start of a Black Keys collection. Fans of the Brothers album will enjoy Rubber Factory and The Big Come Up.The Black Keys don't want to be known as a Blues band, their comment, how many people buy blues albums? From a pure marketing label perspective, Dan and Pat are absolutely correct. But from a music standpoint, there is no denying The Black Keys are solidly rooted in the Blues. They've made the Muddy Waters style of blues accessible to a huge audience. The vinyl edition of Rubber Factory is excellent, or the way this music should be heard. What I've missed in the CD and MP3 releases is the feeling of wide a slightly echo harsh factory. In the vinyl release I can hear where they recorded this album; there is a dirty factory feeling to the whole thing. Pat's excellent drum playing is perfectly mixed with Dan's guitar playing. The vocals take a back seat to the music. The vocal sound is more like an old blues microphones pushed through a tiny old tube amplifier PA system. The best part of The Big Come Up and Rubber Factory, the recordings are a bit raw. The energy of these two playing together was not produced out with a pristine studio recording. This isn't a live album, but it has some of that same feeling. Brothers is a whole different recording, it is fairly well produced, meant for more mainstream play, but isn't a sellout. I am a Black Keys fan. I started listening to them heavily after the Nissan ad during the winter Olympics and their interview on NPR (all three of their interviews are available on the NPR website, well worth listening). These three albums are by far my favorites. Dan and Patrick still play songs from Rubber Factory during their concerts - there has to be something great about this album standing the test of time. Stack Shot Billy, 10AM Automatic, and The Girl Is On My Mind were on the set list during their 2011 tour. The album includes a code to download MP3's. They are reasonably good quality files. It's a nice bonus that I can listen to this album over a really fine stereo when I want to listen; and then take the songs with me when I travel. The thick glossy paper record sleeve has lyrics printed on one side. The layout is supposed to look like they wrote the lyrics on a piece of paper, including scratch outs. The album is 180gram vinyl. The pressing I have isn't perfect; there were a few pops and crackles here and there. There was an annoying skip on one track; I just need to do a second deep clean of the album. The tracks are packed fairly tightly; Fat Possum chose to publish this as a single album. Most really good record companies are moving to three or four sides for this much content. The Black Keys are an outstanding group. I'm so happy to see that they have not sold out their music with Brothers. Let's hope leaving Akron, Ohio doesn't change them for the worse. Rubber Factory is one of their better albums. The Big Come Up [Vinyl] Brothers (2 LP w/Bonus CD)

About 2003 I was in a used bookstore in Knoxvegas, TN. I will not mention their name until they pay me to advertise. Books one side, and CDs on the other. They were playing Thickfreakness. I hear stuff all the time and who cares. But this was so good, I asked, and told them to give it to me. Still love it. I backed up and got Big Come Up. Not as good, but fine. Then this third effort is excellent. I still listen to these pretty regular. The direction has changed slightly and Rubber Factory is the last I bought. No offense, but Akron??? White boys???? This stuff is mostly gritty as sandpaper and made to be loud. You stomp your body in time and stick out your lip and at least bob your head. It is unsophisticated, and fuzzythump. But I like it. Favorite songs: All Hands Against His Own; Grown So Ugly; Slack Shot Billy; Keep Me.

I recently ordered this album and received it just a few days later. The songs are great and I have been pretty happy to have the record on vinyl. However, the package the item was shipped in was about 1/4 inch too narrow and instead of using a larger box or even putting it on an angle, the record was pushed down into the box. Although the record was not damaged, the case and sleeve were damaged: bent and creased. Customer service offered a small refund or to exchange for a new product...still I am disappointed in how they packed something as fragile as a record.
