Pros:
- flexible organizing options because you have many shelves & can choose varying configurations for you storage needs.
- easy to assemble - you will need a medium size phillips head screwdriver for the 12 screws. It is machined accurately, so there is no problem getting each of the poles into their corresponding holes.
- considering it's size, the wire supports make structure look open & not like a squat monolith.
- they give you plastic tabs that lock on to the wire supports that you can attach a label to (labels not included).

cons:
- the top and bottom shelves are cheap - one corner on each was damaged
- the middle shelves slide in too easily. When putting a stack of papers on one of them, the shelf moved along with the papers. Since the back is open, this means that the things you put on a shelf can easily slip out the back. I'm thinking that smaller receipts saved for tax purposes will have to go into an envelope before putting on the shelves because they could easily blow off.
- the middle shelves are thin - I wouldn't put anything heavy on any of them. It's probably why they include those tabs - there is no way to label the shelves themselves.

Conclusion - the Rubbermaid brand is not what it used to be - I have some of their products that have been going strong for 20 years now. This thing won't last that long. The idea behind the organizer is good, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe if it was $25 cheaper, I would have given it a better rating.

I have been using this for about a year to sort my mail. The slots are separated by cardboard that warp over time. I wouldn't recommend this purchase if you want something more durable. Plus everything kind of sticks out and looks messy. Something with more durable separators might be better.

To be fair, cost wasn't much of an issue for me. The office purchased it, and it fit my esthetic and space requirements. I probably would have balked at $45 if I had paid personally, but still would have done it, and loved it. :)

There are 2 things to think of.

#1, What are you putting in it?
I am using it strictly as a paper organizer. We are a medical office and they have literally dozens of various forms for various insurances, and various "help sheets" for us to hand out. I had an organizer for 6 and found I was doubling and tripling some of them. Time for a new solution. If you are looking for a place to keep nothing but papers, figure it holds about a ream (ish) of paper per slot. There is a single bar running across the back of each row. It is impossible for a regular 8.5x11 paper to creep out the back or sides. There is NO front lip. For me, ideal. I need the ability to slide the papers out when patients come through or I'm making up charts. If you want to keep them from coming out easily, there is a slightly more expensive model with little baskets. No clue on quality of that one.

#2 How much versatility do you need?
We are literally using it for a regular sheet of paper per slot. If you need it for small papers, they may slip out the back or sides, if you need it for heavy items (on each shelf) you need something else. These are basically a light pressboard shelf held on by a couple of metal clips. They aren't going to hold a 10 pound weight in the middle of the shelf. Also the height of each shelf is uniform, but you get 12 slots. So you cant make 5 tiny shelves and 4 regular ones, etc. You can take away a shelf to make larger ones, but only in the width of the shelf (again, about a ream of paper worth).

$50-$60 seems a bit expensive for something that cost less than $1.50 to manufacture..but I guess the solution it provides is what matters most. It does the job, organizes, creates space on your desk, and is adjustable.

It is heavy and not worth $53.47 it sells for...There are good and bad things about this unit as you can see in the other reviews...

My unit had damaged corners on top shelf and bottom shelf (not enough to go through the hassle of returning it) as previous buyers have mentioned before...poor packaging for the weight of the item, obviously it has not improved over the years...

Other thoughts,

I used the label tabs to sort of restrict the forward movement of the shelves as they just lay there, nothing stops them from shifting...

Also, to prevent stuff from sliding through back I placed\wedged vertically a couple of the shelves in the back of the unit...it more or less blocks the back of the bottom three shelves...

I looked at all kinds of office and desktop organizers, in need of a contemporary styled station to keep pen/pencil cup, envelopes, stamps, tape, stapler, thank you cards, coupons, mail, and random notes and reminders all in one place. I wanted to have these items visible and easily accessible, not hidden away in drawers, and this is perfect.

I noticed one review commented that the back is open and papers can easily slip out. I don't know if this is a new, added feature, but mine came with two small rods that prevent papers from slipping out the back.
