Hmmm...have to completely disagree with previous reviewer: this is an excellent product. Went together perfectly. Of course I am experienced building stuff like this, but my wife made one as well, perfectly. The units are very sturdy and, naturally, hook right into the Configurations system. The action is smooth and nice to use. The satin nickel hardware is GORGEOUS! Looks really refined and delightful to use. Here is one gripe: Rubbermaid has you install the system a certain height above floor level. If you have no extender bars (like in the deluxe set, I have the classic) and you want to mount this thing so that the top of it is shelf-level (meaning you can put your wallet and keys in a dish on it for easy access, like I do), the unit will extend below the bottom of the support bars, and will lack support on their lower end. The result is that it "tilts in" towards the wall a little on the bottom. Of course that is for Classic kit owners only, and extender bars will both fix this and allow you to do what I did, which was put shoe racks beneath it, a perfect application for me. Anyhow, I really dig this product: it is smooth, functional with a high-quality laminate veneer (no "sticker" veneer like Bush flat-pack furniture). It does not roll out as much as you'd expect, as I think they tried to be conservative for not-so-deep closets, so the drawers would not extend out and hit doors. Mine has plenty of clearance, though. The configurations line is good stuff for cost-effective organization. Not absolutely gorgeous, but looks a lot nicer than the usual "included" stuff you get with a home.

OK but more cons than pros- ideas to maybe make yours better.,

This is an early 2011 review. Instructions are still a little weak but easy to figure out with some review.. I knew what I was doing and it still took an hour min. to assemble the box and drawers, hang, ect.Actual useable drawer space : Approx. 19.75"x 10.75"x 5.62"5 (lxwxd) Can have about 6.25" stacked in, per drawer. Pros: When folded properly drawer can hold 16 medium T-shirts. Pro:s Rolling glides move smooth but they also have a con. (see below) Pro: fits my Closetmaid Fast Track system. I was not sure if they were the same track but it works. Sadly :There are more cons than pros. Cons:The instruction drawings for the Side panels are missing some holes and the scale is off. This was the only slow down to starting assembly but once figured out that they did did not draw in some holes. One side of the instructions are a prodcut list and the other 6 steps with very little text. Over all the instruction drawings can be figured out. Tip: Just keep thinking about the finished product and some questions of the drawings will be eliminated. But I agree they need to improve. Con: they say laminated but I think it is only paper lamination or the thinnest of any lamination when looked on the side. I would not let the surface get exposed any moisture since you might see the particle board show through. Like I said it is paper thin what every it is. Consider a drawer liner to protect the paper finish bottom. Con : Only some edges are faced. The facing is thicker lamination like I hoped the entire piece would be. They do not face the back drawer top because the drawer does not full extend. Con: drawer rollers- I thought would be a plus but the drawer does not pull out far enough. I COULD hvae overlooked allot of cons if they had just made 3/4 extension. Sadly you only get 5.75" space to try to get shirts out. Tip: You can lift the drawer out of the lock position and get another 2" but then have to hold in one hand. to keep the drawer in place. But it will still roll back into place when ready. Tip: I am considering buying full extension slides and converting this. You can find them on line for $6 a pair. As I said, I could look past the low material quality if the drawers just opened to 3/4. Con: Drawer base is thin paperboard. It slides into the drawer front and is nailed on the back and the glides hold on sides. Problem I have with this is that there are only 2 small screws per glide and you are screwing INTO PARTICLE BOARD EDGES! This is a NO NO. There is no real strength screwing in this direction and it could split if nailed too close to the edge. 5 brads nailed into particle board is supposed to hold up over time? Problem is that weight from what you put in the drawer push down and you are nailing UP so over time if too heavy this design will make it pull away. Tip: might want to add some glue for the long hall. If you change the glides you will need to better secure this bottom. Con: Drawer face method of joining needs a little glue. I have used the dowel and turn scew on cabinets and they do not hold up well. I would recommend a little glue on the dowels as long as you are sure you want to keep this. Otherwise I see issues when the dowels loosen in the holes. Con: Screws are soft. Use a hand screwdriver , push firm and go slow or else you WILL STRIP these screws. Con: Pictures lie: You screw through the sides with four screws and then then add a cover cap. They have changed the design from the photo on the box or have air brushed it out. Everything is butt joint and minimal screws. Also I feel they could have increased a little interior space if they had the draw back screw to the back of the side ends. So over all this is a fair to average poduct. Well it IS in a closet so how fancy does it have to look? As for function seriously consider changing the glides to full extension slides. I would have rated it higher if they change the drawer glide to full extension and provide higher quality screws. I doubt those two things would add that much to the cost if any. Fixing the other cons might add to the cost but then you whould have more demand for a higher quality product. Keep working at it Rubbermaid. (I bought mine at a major hardware store as suggested by another review. Still think for what it is , even at $45 it is a bit high with the issues it has. It will do the job but I can not rave over it. Go to a local store that carries rubbermade and see it first, if you can find it on display.

Assembly required!,

You should have a decent amount of patience before attacking the assemblage of this. However, once complete, it looked GREAT and is very functional for things like gloves, scarves, woolly socks, etc. Make sure you have two vertical extensions that are 22" apart or you will have difficulty fitting this in...

I bought 2 of this along with Rubbermaid 3H89 closet kid. The item looks good but the assembly instructions is very vague. If you have experience with assembling products yourself, you can easily figure it out. Not a big deal. Easy to operate and looks solid.

My husband and I purchased our first drawer unit when we added onto our house two years ago (and ended up with our very first closet!). We didn't have an inordinate amount of trouble putting it together, and it's worked perfectly since. It looks cheap as all heck, but we knew that before we bought it - and it turns out that the construction is pretty solid. The drawer action is very smooth, which is a nice feature. They don't pull out very far though, so this unit is best used for socks, t-shirts, etc - nothing full-sized that you need to identify before pulling out. For example, storing sweaters or pants in these drawers would probably be a mistake. We're going to buy a second unit today, but not from Amazon. We'll be going to a big-box store, where the price is almost 30% less.

Pros:- Looks nice; handles are very pretty and gives it a polished look - Was easy to assemble, once I figured out the directions - Feels well-constructed: drawers slide in and out smoothly, the boards seem sturdy Cons: - Shallower than I was expecting. Why not make it 14" or 16" deep instead of barely 12? It's not like you'll be opening the drawers with the closet doors closed. Also the design seems to waste a considerable amount of space; the drawer space is much smaller than it would appear from the outside. - Rather pricey, in comparison to the rest of the Configurations line. I mean, this thing costs over half of what the entire Classic configurations set costs. - Although assembly is pretty easy, the instructions are a bit confusing and it took me a while to understand what I was meant to do. This took probably half the assembly time. - The screws are ridiculously soft. I stripped one completely while turning by hand (and believe me, I do not have strong arm muscles). Luckily it was almost completely in by that point so it wasn't a big issue, but I had to be careful with the rest of them. So overall, it looks nice and works well; I might buy another if I decide I really need one...but the main reason I would really need one would be because this one is so small that it doesn't fit everything I thought it would.

The only disappointing item in the entire Configurations line,

I've recently bought just about every item in the Rubbermaid Configurations line (Deluxe and Classic kits, sliding wire drawers, sliding pants racks, tie racks, add'l shelves, etc), and I thought these drawers would be a great addition. I'll start by saying that the entire Configurations line is quite good, in general lived up to my expectations and to the reviews here on Amazon. These drawers are the one exception. Though currently priced well at $60 each, I was ultimately disappointed in the quality and functionality of the unit.Right off the bat, you'll notice that this unit is small, and the drawers don't hold much. Of course, this may be perfect for some people's needs, but I was actually hoping to use four of these (8 drawers in total) to replace our his and hers dressers. Suffice to say that one would be hard-pressed to fit more than undergarments or socks in these drawers. Assembly wasn't as easy for me, and I really thought I was good at these "Ikea" type products. The drawer screws are difficult to get in all the way, and I ended up stripping the heads easily. Frustrating, and ultimately quite flimsy anyway. The drawer bottoms are typical "cardboard" and you use small finishing nails to secure the back side of the drawer bottom - wouldn't expect these to last very long. I returned six of the eight I ordered, keeping two for my daughter's closet. My advice: stick to the hanging wire basket Rubbermaid 3J05 Configurations Sliding Wire Basket, Titanium - it's much bigger, and 3-4 would easily replace a small dresser for around the same cost as two of these.

Two different versions, same package,
By rds24a "rds24a" (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews

Rubbermaid makes two different versions of this product. One package has brackets that are set for closet standards 22 1/4 inches apart. The other, newer package has brackets for both 22 1/4 inches and the more compatible 22-inch width. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell looking at the package which brackets are in the box. If you already have standards at 22 inches that you are trying to use this item with, it will not fit. Calling Rubbermaid is no help because they will not provide (even paying) any parts for this unit.Otherwise the product is a nice, attractive product that serves its purpose very well...if you can mount it.

Feel like you're in a posh hotel!!!,
This review is from: Rubbermaid 3E30 Configurations 2 Drawer Hanging Unit, Maple (Kitchen)
These things ROCK!!! We bought the "wooden" shoe cubbies, drawers, and 1 shelving thing for our master closet (see our picture). This closet isn't really big enough for two adults (particularly when one is female) so it is just for my husband but it looks really stylish. We bought the wood pieces at Target before they stopped carrying them in the store, the belt rack and extenders on Ebay from boxlots22, and the frame kit on Amazon. We took our time, patched all the holes from the previous shelves, painted, and planned out what we would do. I still wish we had hung it about 2-3 inches higher (we did not hang it at the height the directions said and we don't feel that needs to be followed. We hung ours a bit lower, added extenders to make the vertical rails longer and then did drawers to the bottom. I am thrilled with it! The laminate wood stuff went together very easily with two people working on the project. My husband did need to use a rubber mallet to whack them into the slots in the rails and you have to think about things and put them in in the right order. Overall, we feel we saved between $100 and $150 vs. what we would have paid for a similar product at Lowes. Plus, with this system nothing is on the floor so you can vacuum under it and also won't need to remove it if carpet is replaced and you can change it if your needs change by moving things around.PS- Target please stock these again!!!

Nice addition to the closet,

I was a little shy and ordered just one based on the two opposing reviews available. Once I got it and put it together I ordered a second one. I have to agree with M.M. Jackson, the item went together smoothly and nicely. The holes all lined up perfectly on mine so I don't understand the problem that the first reviewer encountered (a bad one off production maybe???). The drawers sit flush as in the picture and it looks really nice in the closet. I think it gives a 'finished quality' and character to the wire shelving. While the drawers aren't deep it worked perfectly at the entrance of my walk-in closet since the width there is barley more than 12". The second one will go further in the closet where there is ample space so this drawer works for a lot of closet layouts. Also, for the section of my closet not limited to the 12" depth; I ordered the the medium and large canvas drawers which also worked out great because they hold quite a bit of stuff. Each of my friends that have seen my 'rubbermaid closet' have been impressed.
