I wouled not buy these items again except I now have the handle and in order to use it I will have to buy the same sponges in the future.

As I squeezed the water out of it, the cellulose yellow sponge came right out of the metal grip.

I wish I had read these reviews BEFORE purchasing this product. What a huge disappointment. I've owned the Rubbermaid Steel Sponge Mop for almost 20 years and never had a problem because the original sponge refills were truly a great sponge. I recently needed to replace my sponge mop head so I decided to buy an entire new mop with the head since I loved the mop so much - I thought it would be great to have 2 of them. Well, was I wrong. Just like the others sadly found out, I used my new sponge mop with the brand new refill that came with it and in less than 20 minutes of use I noticed that the center of the yellow sponge was beginning to bulge. As I squeezed the water out of it, the cellulose yellow sponge came right out of the metal grip. I was so shocked. I decided that before I return it, I would call Rubbermaid to see what they had to say. I might as well have just talked to a wall. I told the customer service representative about the problem as well as the fact that this is being experienced by others too. She claimed that they were not aware of any problem and that it was probably just this one incident. How sad! I told her about the other reviews but she basically seemed very unconcerned. Not a good sign for Rubbermaid! Now I have a useless mop. I will return the new one and get a refund, but now I have nowhere to purchase a decent mop head for the mop that I already have. I will not be looking to purchase any Rubbermaid products in the future as their customer service is very unsatisfactory. Don't waste your time or money. And if you accidentally already have, then call Rubbermaid to let them know that this is a REAL problem, not an isolated incident.

After a couple of uses the expensive mop refill separated from the holding channel. This happened to all 3 refills we used. Waste of money.

We bought three of these a year ago, and all three of them fell apart after one or two uses, with the sponge portion tearing free of the metal channel when squeezing. The sponges appear to be too large for the mop, or the metal channel is far too weak keep the sponges properly grasped. Buyer beware!!!

We use these spone heads in our restaurant. They are falling apart way too easily. Very disappointed with the product.

These used to be GREAT mop heads! But the last three that I have purchased over a two-year period have all suffered from the same issues. Evidently there have been some changes in the manufacturing processes, and these mop heads now suffer from two problems:

1) (minor) The small rubber nibs in the metal frame that used to keep the wringer hook from slipping out of the mop-head frame have been eliminated. Although this makes the mop-head easier to install, it is also easier for the wringer hook to slip out.

2) (MAJOR) The crimping of the steel frame isn't what it used to be, and the "springiness" of the steel frame also doesn't seem as good as it used to be, which results in the mop head pulling out of the steel frame during the first wringing, even if you have submerged the mop head in water for several minutes to wet it thoroughly prior to wringing. There is a warning on the packaging about getting the mop head thoroughly wet before wringing, but that still won't prevent the cellulose sponge from coming out of the frame before you've even touched the floor with it.

Even though I still buy these mop heads, I have resorted to re-crimping the frame in multiple places along the entire length of the steel frame, using a set of Vise-Grip welding clamps borrowed from our shop, prior to their first use. This is the only effective fix that I have found. After properly re-crimping them, these are still the best sponge-type mop heads you can buy.

Its hard to find a good mop head. This one is put togather very well and does an excelent job on my hardwood floors. I really like the cellulose instead of some weird types of materials some are, they never seem to do the job cellulose does.

Worthless, ridiculous, waste, zip, zero, nada, no way, bupkus, nil.

And don't buy it.........

Comes as one piece.
When you use it, it becomes two pieces.....
